Indian Hill forums explore decline in religion

INDIAN HILL – Are Americans losing their religions?
That will be the focus of a series of free public forums at Indian Hill Church in February.
“According to several studies and reports by various religious institutions and independent research groups, religiosity in the United States is in the midst of a great decline,” said Gerri Strauss, a member of Indian Hill Church at 6000 Drake Road.
“The Pew Research Center cites that these changes are taking place across the religious landscape, affecting all regions of the country and many demographic groups.
“The evangelical Protestant tradition is the only major Christian group that has gained more members than it lost through religious switching,” Strauss said.
“Our adult forums in February will attempt to take an open, frank look at why this is occurring.”
Speakers at the Indian Hill Church forums will lead discussions from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on these Sundays:
•Feb. 5 – Jim DiEgidio, general presbyter of the Presbytery of Cincinnati, will discuss why traditional religions are declining and whether the trend can be reversed.
•Feb. 12 – William McDonald, chairman of the Department of Religion, History and Philosophy and associate professor of religion and philosophy at Tennessee Wesleyan University in Athens, Tennessee, will discuss how congregations of two traditions in the United States and Canada can worship and work together.
•Feb. 26 – Short videos featuring a theologian, philosopher and a physicist will kick off a discussion on agnosticism.
