A lot of animals have been to space, including dogs, monkeys, cat, and even a spiders. Some animals were sent up to test the impact of space on living beings, and scientists tried to ensure that they would come back safely so they could be studied. Laika(1957)
Laika was a Soviet Union space dog and the first animal in history to reach orbit around the Earth. The reason for sending dogs into space is to get information about biological behavior in the space environment. On November, 1957, she occupied the Soviet spacecraft Sputnik 2, which was sent to orbit the Earth. Laika died within hours during the flight due to overheating.
Ham(1961)Ham, also known as Ham the Chimp was a chimpanzee and the first hominid launched into space on 1961. Ham was trained to believe he was flying the spacecraft. His flight lasted only 16 minutes before he landed in the Atlantic and survived. After that, Ham was spent his later years in a zoo.
