BEING marketed in the image of a hyper-popular singer can sometimes be more of a bane than a boon.
Up-and-coming singer Andresha Andin is trying to shake off the tag that she is a Siti Nurhaliza lookalike.
It doesn't help that the 19-year-old won a Siti lookalike contest two years ago.
The former Woodlands Secondary School student told The New Paper she was persuaded by her friends to join the contest.
'They thought I could win the contest. I didn't know what I was doing. I loved to sing, so I had a really good time then,' said Andresha.
USEFUL AT FIRST
While the resemblance is slight at best, the singer, whose real name is Nur Aisyah Andin, admitted that looking like Siti was at first useful.
'I think it opened up some doors for me and allowed me to get into the industry at least,' she said recently.
After completing her N levels, Andresha stopped school and instead, accepted a recording contract with EZS Management.
Her parents, she claimed, were supportive of her decision.
She is the oldest of four children and her parents have a goreng pisang stall in the West Coast.
'They are behind me, although they are worried about my travelling up and down Malaysia for work so often,' she said.
Before even getting into the studio, Andresha went through intensive vocal training with Nuradee Productions.
She had to wait two years before she cut her debut album, Cabaran dan Berpaling Cinta (Challenges and Very In Love), early this year.
Andresha explained that she took the slower route as she felt she wasn't prepared to jump into recording too soon.
'My voice was not strong and my management felt I needed to get training before cutting the album,' she said.
Local Malay newspaper Berita Harian has even touted her as the artiste to watch this year.
For most of the year, Andresha has been busy plugging her album in Malaysia.
But things slowed down during the fasting month, and she is now taking a few weeks' break to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri with her family.
Her schedule will rev up again next month when she starts work on her second album.
Andresha's aim next year is to shed the Siti Nurhaliza tag once and for all.
'While I am flattered that people think I look like Siti, I don't sound like her,' she said.
'I am looking for my own voice.'

besor sungguh pengaruh CT..before nie penah dgr org buat pertandingan tiru gaya p ramlee, elvis, sudirman, mikel jeksen.. |

x dernya sore klon CT....cuba bercakap....mesti suara lain bebenor dari CT....bila nyanyi punya lenggok nak menyamai siti...murahan betul. |

kak adik pon cam ada sorang kawan eddy yg perasan punye vokal n lenggok suara cam CT...tapi diapun minat giler CT cam eddy..hehe |
