Celebrate the year-end at Velocity

THE year-end is approaching and if you are looking for a great place to celebrate it, look no further than Velocity: KL Music Fest 2006.

Set to take place on Dec 29 at Sunway Lagoon Theme Park, the one-of-its-kind festival will not only be music-based, it will also have a motorsports twist as well as a ?rug Free, Crime Free? theme to it.

The idea behind its ?rug Free, Crime Free? theme, according to the organiser, is to educate youths from 18 to 35, that they can have a good time without being under the influence of drugs.

To achieve this, the organisers ? Event Knights Sdn Bhd, Motorsports Malaysia, Sixzerothree and Hypertune magazine ? will be teaming up with the police and several anti-crime associations.

?he approach, hopefully, will appeal to today? youth.

With the proper education, I am hoping that the youths will realise that drug abuse is self-abuse,said Subang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Fuad Talin at the launch of the festival yesterday.

He hoped that it would also serve to correct the misconception that raids were done to stop youths from seeking entertainment.

The police will also set up booths on location to educate visitors about drug abuse, crime and law enforcement.

They will also be having a recruitment drive for its force and the Rakan Cop programme.

As for the entertainment bit, the festival will be hosted in two rooms.

Room 1 caters to dance music lovers, with performances by international DJs like Kyau & Albert (Germany); Ron Van Beuken (Holland), Judge Jules (Britain) and Malaysia? DJ Love.

Room 2 will host performances by Dayang Nurfaizah, Joe Flizzow, MC Syze DJ Goldfish, DJ T-Bone, DJ Biggie and HITZ.FM? Jakeman.

Morning Crew shows its heart

THANKS to the spunky deejays of the Hitz.FM Morning Crew, JJ and Rudy, Nazmi Nabil Azmi, 13, will be able to walk and run with his friends again.
After reading the boy? appeal for an artificial limb in The Malay Mail on Monday, the deejays decided they wanted to help Nazmi get back on his feet.

Though the amount needed for Nazmi? artificial limb was RM6,800, JJ and Rudy managed to raise more than RM7,000 through pledges and public donations during their live show from 6am to 10am yesterday.

?e were so touched by Nazmi? situation, especially when he said he couldn? play his favourite sport, badminton, anymore.

?lso, the boy met with an accident on his way to school around 6.40am, which is the same time that JJ and I are on air everyday,? said Rudy.

?ince we have the power to help people, we called up the sponsor of our show, Hotlink, and made them an offer they can? refuse,? said JJ.

Both deejays ?old? their faces to Hotlink for RM3,500 each. Their faces will be painted on to be used for the telco? promotional purposes during the Velocity KL Music Fest at Sunway Lagoon on Dec 29.

Hitz.FM is also giving two tickets to the event to Nazmi so that he could party with The Morning Crew.

Hitz.FM also incorporated a charity drive for Nazmi? cause during the station? mini breakdance competition, Project Naz-Naz Project Project, at Sunway Pyramid yesterday afternoon.

The competition saw six male contestants ?reaking? on a self-made dance floor. The winner, university student Yin Zhen Huang, 18, went home with a new set of track top and pants, courtesy of adidas.

The Velocity KL Music Fest will see dance, R&B and hip-hop lovers go wild over the sounds of Judge Jules, Ron van Beuken, Hitz.FM? Jakeman, T-Bone and Goldfish, and Dayang Nurfaizah, among others.

BE prepared to drift away to a whole new world of sights and sounds as internationally acclaimed DJ Judge Jules spins musical euphoria from the decks of Sunway Lagoon Surf Pool in Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya on Dec 29.

Called ?elocity KL Music Fest 2006?, the event is the first of its kind to mesh motorsports with music, showcasing the engagement between two different forms of energy and pace.

While music has Judge Jules as its anchor, the motorsports superstar of the night will be the Lotus Exige 300RR.

The event will be hosted in two ?ooms? simultaneously as part of a multiple choice concept.

The open-air Room 1, which is purely for dance music, features one of the top three producers of club hits in Europe ? DJ Ron van Bueken ? and Germany? top duo act Kyau and Albert.

Room 2 will offer a different spread for party goers.

R&B and hip hop being the order of the day in this room, patrons will be entertained by rising star DJ Goldfish as well as veteran DJ master DJ T-Bone and Jakeman from hitz.

Dayang Nurfaizah will also vow the crowd with her powerful vocals.

Hosts are Jungle Jerry (Room 1) and Joe Flizzow of Too Phat and the Cartel Crew (Room 2).

Organised with the aim of curbing drug abuse among youths in Malaysia, the event is a collaboration between the Selangor State Education, Sports and Human Development Committee, Subang Jaya Police Department, Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation and Selangor Tourism Action Council.
