Proton vs VW - Siapa perlukan siapa?

Its too good to be true sekiranya VW bergabung dgn Proton semata-mata untuk menyelamatkan Proton yg semakin tenat.

Malaysia's Proton and VW say tie-up talks shelved
Malaysia's government and Volkswagen said Tuesday they had shelved long-running talks about an alliance between the German firm and the Asian nation's car maker Proton.
Malaysia's state investment arm Khazanah Nasional, which controls Proton, said it had discontinued negotiations with Volkswagen.
The German car maker said in a statement it and the Malaysian government had for the time being decided "to shelve their joint talks" about the alliance.
The talks began in October 2004 aiming to revitalise Proton, which experts say has suffered from stiff competition, a lack of new models and a reputation for poor quality.
Khazanah said it had also ended talks with General Motors. The government had said it would turn to the US auto giant if talks with Volkswagen failed.
An improvement in Proton's domestic sales and exports had led to the decision to halt negotiations, the state investment arm said in its statement.
"The government is therefore of the view that Proton's management should be allowed to continue with its plans to further strengthen the company," it said.
But it also left the door ajar for a future tie-up, saying a strategic alliance could be considered at a later date.
"Talks with Volkswagen have not broken down. They may have discussions later on," a senior finance ministry official, who wished to remain anonymous, told AFP.
"For the time being, Proton will not enter into any pact with any car manufacturer. The government has decided that Proton will be managed by itself," the official said.
Proton has suffered a sharp decline in market share and been hit by losses, including a 46.75-million-ringgit (13.8-million-dollar) loss over the three months to June.
A deal was expected to boost Proton's efforts to reclaim top spot in Malaysia and gain a foothold in the lucrative European market.
But such partnerships were hard to forge because of the government's reluctance to cede control of a key national company to foreign hands, analysts said.
"We can only speculate but management control and the shareholding structure was probably the main issue. The talks have really dragged on," Kurnia Insurans chief investment officer Pankaj Kumar told AFP.
"Proton cars have been selling well locally for the last few months but at the end of the day, Proton has to be competitive globally," he said.
"I don't think it has been that innovative. The new models are mostly re-badged versions of previous models," he added.
A Volkswagen spokesman told AFP in Frankfurt that the group was now looking for "new commitments" in Southeast Asia.
"The company continues to pursue the goal of developing a successful foundation for production and distribution in Southeast Asia for years to come," the firm said |

VW mmg kompeni besar so nak buat ape mrk mau bergabung dgn Proton. Tp sebaliknye mrk mau menguasai proton.

nak kuarkan kete high class mmg proton boleh... tapi perlukan banyak pengorbanan... kalu tiap2 tahun nak kutip keuntungan melampau tanpa pedulikkan kehendak pembeli.... bila masa Proton nak maju??

VW cuma minat kat kilang canggih manggih proton kat tanjung malim tu jer...itu laa sebab musabab dier berminat nak take over proton.
Lebih baik bergabung time proton tgh naik atau stabil, daripada bergabung time nyawa2 ikan. |

GM still hopeful of tie-up with Proton

GENERAL Motors Corp (GM) has not entirely given up hope of a possible tie-up with Proton Holdings Bhd, despite the Malaysian carmaker's recent decision that it wants to stay on its own.
Last week, the government decided to give Proton the chance to complete its turnaround plan, simultaneously ending alliance talks with German automotive company, Volkswagen AG.
The government, however, did not discount the possibility of Proton having to invite a foreign partner in future.
"Never say never. In General Motors, any opportunities that come our way, we'll never turn down. But in the meantime, things have moved on ... Probably by the time we talk again, things will have moved on some more ... It's a complicated situation, you know," said GM's head of Southeast Asian operation Steve Carlisle.
While foreign partner tie-up has been called off for now, the government may allow Proton to tie- up with a local player. Should the government approve of a strategic alliance with a local partner, DRB-HICOM Bhd and Naza are seen as the front-runners.
"If there's an opportunity, of course we would love to see where we can participate," said DRB-HICOM chairman Datuk Mohd Khamil Jamil.
Both Mohd Khamil and Carlisle were speaking to the media after the launch of the new seven-seater sports utility vehicle (SUV) Chevrolet Captiva.
The SUV - which is available in two engine types: a 2.4 litre petrol engine and a 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine - is expected to be priced between RM137,888 and RM154,888 (excluding insurance).
HICOM-Chevrolet Sdn Bhd designated chief executive officer Vickie Wisadkosin expects the Chevrolet Captiva to be well received in Malaysia, based on the response so far from other countries.
Wisadkosin said that the company is expected to regain its form and sell 5,500 units next year, with the help of the new SUV as well as three to four more new models which will be released within the next six months.
