Maritime unit finally buys 3 AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters File photo of the AugustaWestland AW 139
KUALALUMPUR, Oct 31 - While the government has shelved the controversiol billion-ringgit Eurocopter deal for the air force, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) is going ahead to buy three AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters for coastal surveillance and search-and-rescue duties. The initial deal was signed at the Defence Services Asia 2008 earlier this year and is said to be worth RM700 million. The medium twin-engine AW139 will be delivered by mid-2010 and will be initially based in Kuantan
The government early this week shelved an order of 12 Eurocopter EC725 Cougar combat search and rescue military helicopters that were slated to replace the air force's 28 ageing Nuri Sikorsky S-61Atransport helicopters. Opposition parties had cried foul over the rushed order and price that ballooned to RM2.3 billion.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is investigating the aborted deal and Prime Minister and defence minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has clarified the deal was worth RM1.607 billion. One of the three losing bidders for the Nuri replacement was AgustaWestland which offered to sell the EH-101 Merlin aircraft.
But AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, said in a release dated Oct 30 that the MMEA will buy the AW139 which it said has been has been designed with inherent multi-role capability and flexibility of operation, with a maximum cruise speed of 165 kts (306 km/h), a maximum range of 573 nm (1061 km) and over 5 hours endurance.
Last November, MMEA took delivery of three Dauphin AS365 N3 from Eurocopter to be used for similar enforcement and search and rescue operations. It has also ordered two CL-415 amphibian aircraft for its operations.
The Royal Malaysia Air Force (RMAF) also operates the Agusta Westland A109 Light Observation Aircraft (LOH)

Itu Dauphin to cover coastal water in Selat Melaka whereas AW to cover coastal line Malaysia Timur, Laut China Selatan & Sabah Sarawak becoz bigger capacity and longer range. Logiknya 3 biji tu cukup ke untuk cover semua area ni?

aku sebenarnya cari jugak sumber mamat ni tapi tak jumpa...kat web APMM pun tak ada cerita...jadi aku makin sangsilah bila artikel ni sendiri cakap
The initial deal was signed at the Defence Services Asia 2008 earlier this year and is said to be worth RM700 million.
macam ni wa pun boleh cakap bernilai 700 ribu juta sapa nak sangkal weh mana bukti dia |

hmmm....
dah jadi trend nampaknya, setiap pembelian berkaitan dgn keselamatan dipersoalkan...
bagus, bagus... wa sokong!!!!
tak payah le nak beli heli bebagai untuk APMM nih. aset rondaan pon tak payah. kita buat je satu pasukan menyelamat guna bot nelayan. ermmm... kita namakan sebagai Ikatan Nelayan Penyelamat. amacam?
jimat wooo...
tak purcaya, tanya Royal Navy. depa guna pendekatan ni masa Dunkirk dulu.
alangkan tentera laut yg hebat mcm Royal Navy pon pakai pendekatan ni, kenapa APMM nak buleh guna cara ni gak, kan? |
