BMW driver causes anger after 'hogging' middle lane of empty motorway

A BMW driver has caused outrage after they were pictured "hogging" the middle lane of an empty motorway at 5am.
The image on the M5 was taken by a frustrated Dave Harford who pleaded with drivers to stay on the left.
After posting the picture on social media, he explained the vehicle had been in the middle lane for over a mile while doing around 50mph.
He said that it was an example of similar cases he sees on a daily basis and called lane hogging "illegal" as it forced cars to enter the outside lane to overtake.

Dave, 43, from Worcester, tweeted: "Traffic was behind this vehicle and said traffic had to move to lane 3 to go past him - causing more risk.
"Yes. The car was a BMW, but they’re aren’t the only ones who do it.
"People need to take responsibility for their actions and stop blaming others and finding excuses.
"It’s lane hogging. It’s illegal & causes congestion when lots of traffic is around."
A critic of the BMW driver wrote: "The lanes to the right are overtaking lanes. If you're not overtaking, you shouldn't be in it. The clue is in the name..."
Another person added: "Middle Lane hoggers are just poor drivers with no confidence to change lanes confidently, shouldn’t be on the motorway."

One person said: "As someone who drives a vehicle that can't go into lane three, I find middle lane hoggers really annoying.
"Especially when they then sit at 55-60 and won't pull over so you have to hang back since I can't undertake or undertake since both are illegal."
Some defended the driver, with one user posting: "This is not an example of hogging as there are no other vehicles wanting/needing to occupy that lane."
The RAC says lane hogging is an example of “careless driving” that could see you fined up to £100.
The website explains: "Yes, it is an offence, although it comes under ‘careless driving’, along with tailgating, accidentally running a red light and even being distracted by eating or drinking.
"New laws introduced in 2013 give police officers the power to hand out on-the-spot fines of £100 and three penalty points, meaning failing to keep left on the motorway could hit you in the pocket."

Malaysia ni berlambak. Bawak 80km/h duduk lane tengah. Kalau ada 4 lanes, dia duduk yang ke 3 dari kiri. Bodoh ke apa? Bila kena hon, triggered dan tahu pulak nak pecut sikit. Yang lagi bebal, dia nak tunjuk hero dan duduk je lane memotong walaupun kereta belakang dia dah panjang. Lagi satu pemandu malaysia ni takut sangat nak tekan hon. Pemandu bebal belakang kereta lembab ni takut dan tak reti nak hon supaya kereta lembab tu ketepi. Flash dan bagi signal ingat bebal tu nak faham ke?? Bagi hon panjang je. |

Driver UK ni kalau highway busy 3 lorong speed limit 60 mph nanti dorang akan drive lane kiri 40, lane tengah 50, lane kanan 60 memasing maintain je. Bertabahlah kalau ko nak terberak

dekat PLUS ade je gang gang yg bila ade 3 lanes depa tak dok kat lane kiri sekali tapi ambik middle lane sampai lori bancuh simen and lori bawa barang pun potong , bila tengok relative speed/halaju 60 - 80 km / jam. suke gune lane tengah , walhal tak jam pun , tak ade selenggaraan pun. |

Malaysia pun ada, nu kat kelantan sana. Dok lorong 2 lane lorong kiri penih ngan moto (kena hon tau marah), lane kanan keta 60km/j. Bila kena hon & potong tau plak trigger mcm org giler. Masuk kelantan je terus stress drive. |

Dari jauh dah bg signal tp xmasuk2 simpang
Bg signal kanan tp masuk kiri bwk pulak lembap
Mmg menyirap lah |

Aku pun pelik kat highway Malaysia ni org sanggup bertuntun ikut bontot keta kat lane paling kanan
Chill ja semua
Lame no 2 dr kanan lengang
Kadang bukan sbb naik keta besaq nak jadi taiko Jalan raya
Tapi kalau dah memasing terkebilkebil dok lane paling kanan
Mmg dapat beam light kalau x faham mmg makan hon
Tu pun merata kat forum sentap

pastu ada aja yang hon atau bagi high beam..
dah tau nak laju tu kenapa tak guna lane kanan aja..
kenapa perlu serang aku yang mandu ikut had laju..

kat malaysia pon ramai road hogging lane kanan tekan minyak takat 90kmj..dah nampak kereta belakang rapat pon kemain ego tak tukar lane..kalau kereta besar paham lah ego pon besar..ini bawak ativa, kita tekan minyak pon ko dah tertinggal berapa tiang..koser layan akak potong kiri je |

Setuju dengan pendapat2 kat atas pasal yg dok lorong tengah tp bawak perlahan padahal lorong sebelah kiri tak de kenderaan pun...klu depa rasa nk memandu dengan selamat dok lah sebelah kiri....kdg2 mcm nk tembak seko2...
Yg kete beso pulak sebok high beam bila iols tgh memotong lori....ko sabor boleh tak??? lebuhraya johor tu 2 lorong je... |

Di Malaysia lane kiri ada lori dan penunggang motosikal. Lorong kiri juga banyak rosak akibat lori. So why bother guna lane kiri. |

Ada je kan spesis macam ni kat mana2, kat NKVE even lanes dah banyak pun sejenis terpaling patuh undang2 jalan raya lah tu bila drive macam ni. Then ada plak membontot sama kat belakang, dah macam konvoi. Bagus, keep it up.  |

satu lagi yg memandu ikut had laju tp dekat belah kanan. bila org bagi high beam ke ape ke, leh pulak bising2 kata aku drive ikut had laju. org mcm ni la antara penyebab sesak jalan. |

tu le pasal if bawa perahan like 50 km / jam ke 80 km jam ke pilah lane kiri sekali it is okay , ni tak kite yg nak speed up to 100 - 110 ke lane tengah dia dok lane tengah jugak...

pastu ada aja yang hon atau bagi ...
Kalau you plg perlahan tak kiralah your driving speed, you eloknya drive plg kiri. Biar yg lebih laju di tengah dan yg nak memotong dipaling kanan. |
