PIKOM  WORLD CYBER GAMES ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2012

The World`s largest E-Sports Festival and Tournament kick off
from 7-9 September 2012

Kuala Lumpur, Friday (27 July, 2012) – PIKOM, the National ICT Association of Malaysia, today announced the World largest e-Sports festival, World Cyber Games Asian Championship 2012 which will be held together with World Cyber Games Malaysia National Final 2012.  It will be a three-day event of adrenaline-filled actions as teams and individuals battled out to claim victory of championship titles representing Malaysia at Asia level and Grand Final in Kunshan, China from 29 November to 2 December this year.

With the aim to unite gamers from all over the world while allowing gamers to enjoy and respect the e-game environment, World Cyber Games Asian Championship 2012 also serve as the platform for gamers to get together, exchange ideas and strategies whilst demonstrating their skills.

The largest cyber-gaming event will be held from 7 – 9 September at Hall 1, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in conjunction with the National ICT month this September. In the Asian Championship 2012, there will be gamers from 9 other countries who would be  wrestling for the individual titles. World Cyber Games Asian Championship will be  featuring three official games titles - DOTA 2, FIFA12 & Tekken 6.  

The World Cyber Games Malaysian National Finals 2012 is expected to attract about 600 Malaysian gamers across the country. The tournament is open to all Malaysian citizens and Gamers, youth below 18 years old would  required to submit parents’ approval. The seven games titles featured in the National Championship are FIFA12 (individual players), DOTA2 (a team of 5 players), Counter Strike-Online™ (a team of 5 players), World of Tanks (a team of 7 players), StarCraft2 (individual players), Tekken 6 (individual players) and Counter Strike Global Offensive (a team of 5 players).

The selected winners will  get the opportunity to compete with other world-class gamers to represent Malaysia at World Cyber Games Asian Championship 2012 which will be held from 8 – 9 September 2012 in  Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Kuala Lumpur, 7th September 2012 – As the industry association, PIKOM works tirelessly to strengthen and support efforts to not only increase growth of domestic ICT products and services, but also to promote businesses, both SMEs and large corporations, to better reach out to customers, domestically as well as globally.

The National ICT Month (NIM) 2012 marks the fourth consecutive year that PIKOM and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) have joined forces to organize the month-long event with the objective of further enhancing the business climate of the local information and communications technology (ICT) industry, as well as increasing the usage of ICT products and services.

This year’s National ICT Month highlights a series of events with the theme "Innovation for Digital Opportunity” (September 7 – October 11, 2012). With all the events that have been lined up in conjunction with the NIM 2012, PIKOM hopes that the ICT industry will help to propel the country’s economy to a greater level. The month-long IT celebration started fabulously with PC Fair 2012 in Tawau.

NIM 2012 was officially launched on 7th September 2012 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, which also marked the official launches of World Cyber Games (WCG) Asian Championship 2012 and Digital Lifestyle Expo (DLE) 2012, a technology showcase of the latest trends, lifestyle gadgets and applications.

The world's first "Cyber Games Festival", World Cyber Games (WCG) Asian Championship 2012 will be held from 7th – 9th September at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. This is the first year that the Asian Championship is being held in Malaysia, and 600 Malaysian gamers are expected to participate and challenge themselves to win the national championship title.

The highlight of the NIM 2012 would be the Leadership Summit 2012, where top-notch leaders from ICT segments will meet, discuss and review the current state of the industry. Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Datuk Seri Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili; as well as Multimedia Development Corp (MDeC) Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, will be gracing this event as featured speakers. The key highlight of the summit is the launch of PIKOM’s flagship research report on the ICT industry in Malaysia –ICT Strategic Review 2012/ 2013.

Another note-worthy event is the two-day Smart Sourcing Summit 2012 which will be held on 10 – 11 October at Royale Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Themed “Leapfrogging Competition: From Local to Global”, the focus this year is on providing a platform to address current industry issues, enhance visibility and showcase services of Malaysian service providers, plus providing business-to-business networking opportunities. The event is being held in conjunction with the OM Excellence Awards which is being presented to companies in Malaysia for creating compelling value, thereby enhancing Malaysia's position in the global sourcing marketplace.
