Decade Long Wait Ends As Team PETRONAS Raceline Malaysia Goes Full Season In 2014

PETRONAS is pleased to announce that Team PETRONAS Raceline Malaysia will be entering the Moto2 class of the 2014 World Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) on a full-season basis with its rider, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah. The announcement is made pursuant to a written confirmation from DORNA and IRTA to Team PETRONAS Raceline Malaysia manager, Barry Leong.

It has been ten long years since Malaysia has a national-groomed team in the MotoGP. The last time was when Shahrol Yuzy Ahmad Zaini raced as a full-season rider in the world series under Team PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha TVK colours. The team’s quest in the 250cc class lasted 3 seasons.

Both Hafizh Syahrin and Team PETRONAS Raceline Malaysia have forged a strong relationship since the rider was discovered at the tender age of 12. Together they grabbed titles at the national level (PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship) and created waves at the regional level (PETRONAS Asia Road Racing Championship) and the Spanish National Championship.

Undeniably, Hafizh Syahrin and Team PETRONAS Raceline Malaysia’s acceptance into Moto2 next season as a full-fledged rider and GP team are due to their own merit. Their recent record of achievements has been nothing short of extraordinary. For 2013, together they put in creditable Moto2 wildcard performances in Le Mans, Catalunya and 16th place finish at the Sepang (Malaysia) stop, the best position by a wildcard entry in the Moto2 class this season. In August, Hafizh Syahrin bagged victory in race 2 and third position in race 1 of the AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley Davidson series during the Indianapolis World Motorcycle Grand Prix. Hafizh Syahrin also created a historic win in the Moto2 class of the CEV Repsol Spanish Championship at the Navarra Circuit in September and currently stands third in the riders overall position.
