In the age of the Internet, human life is easier than ever before. Back in the 1910s you obviously couldn't search online. Gallaher's Cigarettes addressed this need to make life easier with handy life hacks printed on cards that were tucked inside their packs.

#10 DIY Fire Extinguisher They didn't have those sinister red cylinders back in the 1900s. This one could definitely save a life. Whoop up your own personal fire extinguisher by mixing a pound of salt and half a pound of sal-ammoniac in two quarts of water. You'll smell a safer tomorrow while whipping up the magic potion!
#9 Extract a splinter! They were violent back in the day and tweezers are painful. Fret not, Gallaher's to the rescue!
Fill a wide mouthed bottle with hot water. Press the splinter against the mouth of the bottle. The suction would make the bottle stick as the steam extracts the splinter. Et voila!
#8 Water your plants while away Everybody loved gardening back then and heck, they do so even today! Thanks to this little trick your parents won't be dying of dehydraton while you're on a trip.
Fill a bucket with water and place it a bit higher than the plants. Loosely tie few strands of wool together. Tie the ends to a weight and let it sink to the bottom of the bucket. Rest the other ends on the soil. The water will soak through the wool and water your plants.
#7 Light a match when it's windy I was seriously taken aback by this one. The number of times I've tried to light one in a damn auto rickshaw! Lifesaver! Forget using your hands as windshields, cut small shavings near the striking end of the match. This will increase the surface area and ensure the whole thing catches fire.

#6 Preserve Eggs Your refrigerator deserves a break! Bury your eggs into a box of dry salt, simple. Store it in a dry place. This way you can preserve them for a very long time.
#5 Use your watch as a compass We don't do a lot of sailing in the modern world but it doesn't hurt to know this. Point the hour hand at the sun. Lay a blade of grass or wire crosswise between the hour hand and the figure twelve. The end of the wire between twelve and the hour hand points south.
