For some strange reason nobody pays compliments these days. Or, as it seems, if they do the receiver is so surprised by the out-of-the-blue kind words that they do not now how to react! The other day as I was backing out of the house I noticed this man walking his dog

dulu masa keje, i selalu noticed kekawan pakai cantik ke ofis, selalu gaklah puji depa...wow u look great today!..the colour looks so nice on you!...end up...i kena gelar playgirl sebab ramah sgt dgn org...
dan i ramai peminat gak kat ofis....

opsss, kalo sesapa tertanya cara i puji tu...TERSGT lah plain but with the smile and big eyes on my face...depends on the culture gak kot...kui kui kui...esp kat pfis yg byk makcik2 kepo....jgnlah buat, trust me on this

Thanks, leogal. I am sure others will follow suite,

I guess you must be a lady. A lady complimenting a man and a stranger would understandably create a cultural shock! Over time I had this opinion about men as it happened to my neighbour. He seemed not to be at ease when I spoke directly to him. One late evening when the rest of his family was away balik kampong, he got locked in his bathroom ( long story how come!). I was the only one who heard his call ....aaha ...called out my name so many times he did! Well I got my son and hubby to assist. Since then, he treats me more warmly.

Re-personal compliments to/from the opposite gender ni depends on the culture gak. But I think if it is done honestly, sometime more discretely and with no strings attached, It would be more warmly accepted. Usually just a simple "thank you" is sufficient

Heheheh....he has changed the lock. The old system, I understand, was intended to trap the intruder if he enters through the bathroom, but....heheheh. Sikit punya design!

Generally, it is nice to receive compliments. However, sometimes the receiver pula become over embarrassed and often replied "No lah" this and that sampai yang memberi compliment tu regret pula. I think people should be gracious at giving and receiving complements. As I have said, just a simple "Thank you" is enough. A compliment may also be an ice-breaker!

nowadays...we tend to be wary of compliment...wary of its sinceriity...
or if "any prawn is lurking under the rock"...paid compliment might mean
you have to 'pay' later the person who address you the compliment...
