Federal Govt Admits Marijuana Kills Brain Tumors, But You Still Can’t Have It
Safer than big pharma drugs
Anthony Gucciardi BY ANTHONY GUCCIARDI
POSTED ON APRIL 7, 2015
The federal government admits in newly funded research that compounds found in marijuana have an unprecedented ability to go in and kill brain tumors without any negative side effects. But you’re still going to jail if you try to use it as a medication.
And let’s be clear here: we’re not talking about prosecution for those who just ‘want to get high.’ In fact, as I’ve explained before, the true health effects of marijuana really don’t have to come with its infamous psychoactive effect Instead, we look to the non-THC (which is what gets you high) compounds within marijuana that are specifically known for their anti-cancer and antioxidant effects.
The worst part is that even marijuana without THC is still illegal, despite having zero ‘high’ effects. But then again, this new study on anti-tumor activity even focuses on extracts of marijuana that often do not cause any high either. As reported by Raw Story on the latest study:
“In a report issued by a U.S. government-funded research group tasked with studying drug abuse and addiction, researchers are admitting that marijuana is useful in killing off specific types of brain tumors. The report — coming from a government-backed group with annual budget of over $1 billion — arrives at an awkward time for the administration following an announcement by the Department of Justice this week that it will continue to prosecute medical marijuana cases against individuals in defiance of Congress.”
A quick search within the PubMed National Library of Medicine database for ‘marijuana’ turns up a host of studies, highlighting every aspect imaginable regarding the plant in its many forms. Some advocacy websites have even compiled a list of studies in an easy-to-read format surrounding marijuana, which has led numerous journalists to ask the obvious question: “why are we spending so much time researching an illegal drug for its numerous benefits while stamping side-effect-riddled drugs with the FDA stamp of approval with far less research?”
The truth? Marijuana is backed by more clinical research than most pharmaceutical drugs.
When considering that the average drug label contains 70 side effects, and have not been thoroughly studied for long-term effects in many cases, it’s easy to see the scientific oddity that exists around the use of non-THC containing hemp (at the very least). Many popular pharmaceuticals have even been found to contain 100 to 125 side effects. Some pharma drugs come with over 525 negative reactions.
As the realization within the United States comes into focus surrounding the practical and health-related uses of marijuana, especially in its ‘no high’ non-THC form that only serves to enhance one’s health and state, it’s becoming more clear than ever that a serious role exists for hemp within the US and beyond.

4 Studies Proving that Marijuana can Treat Brain Cancer
Elizabeth Renter BY ELIZABETH RENTER
POSTED ON NOVEMBER 26, 2013
We are living in exciting times in regards to cannabis. As public opinion on marijuana is changing, the laws are following suit, and we are seeing more and more studies evaluating the benefits of this healing plant. Some of the most remarkable research is on the topic of cannabis and the treatment of cancer, especially brain cancer.
Repeatedly, we are seeing that the various medicinal compounds in cannabis could be used to halt tumor growth, kill tumor cells, and do so without the negative side effects so often associated with conventional cancer treatments. Those who oppose the use of marijuana as medicine are not looking at the growing body of research which has proven its value. If they were, they would have to admit defeat.
Here are 4 studies proving that marijuana can be used to treat brain cancer:
1. “Nonpsychoactive CBD was able to produce a significant antitumor activity” – Italian researchers published a study in The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics which tested cannabidiol on human brain tumor cells. They found the non-psychoactive cannabis compound to have detrimental effects on the viability of these cells, inhibiting their growth “significantly”. http://jpet.aspetjournals.org/content/308/3/838.abstract

2. “The combined administration of TMZ and cannabinoids could be therapeutically exploited for the management of GBM” – Another study, published in the journal Molecular Cancer Therapeutics, built off the knowledge of cannabis having anti-tumor effects and found it could be the answer to the increasing number of treatment-resistant cancers. http://mct.aacrjournals.org/content/10/1/90.abstract
3. “The cannabinoid system can serve to protect the brain against neurodegeneration” – The Journal of Neuroscience contains another study from 2001 in which THC-treated rats received neuro-protective benefits. Neuro-degeneration refers to progressively worsening brain function commonly found in age-related dementia but also when the brain is damaged. The researchers found that rats treated with THC (the compound in marijuana that makes you high) were protected against such damage, indicating it as a potential solution for slowly progressive neurodegenerative disease and also acute damage that could occur as a result of directed tumor treatment. http://www.jneurosci.org/content/21/17/6475.abstract
4. “The fair safety profile of THC…with its possible antiproliferative action on tumour cells…may set the basis for evaluating the potential antitumoral activity of cannabinoids” – Finally, a study found in the British Journal of Cancer found that THC and other cannabinoids were able to inhibit the growth of brain tumors. In two out of nine patients, the compounds were able to decrease the number of tumor cells, all without psychoactive effects. http://www.nature.com/bjc/journal/v95/n2/abs/6603236a.html

These four studies only represent the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the healing powers of cannabis. Other research has linked the plant to breast and prostate cancers, seizure disorders, Alzheimer’s, depression and anxiety, and even drug treatment.
