Lifestraw is a personal water filter that filters up to a maximum of 1000 liters of water. Enough to last a person for a good one year, this potentially lifesaving piece of kit should be in every adventurer’s survival kit. Lifestrawhas been used all over the world and can be purchased in Malaysia at OGM Shop.
There is no doubt that boiling water is by far the safest way to treat water for human consumption. But there are times when boiling is just not possible or practical. Taking on the experience of a group of volunteers helping out an NGO on patrol in Taman Negara Malaysia, Lifestraw is a matter of convenience as well as a safety net.
The group were trekking in Taman Negara Merapoh for 4days and 3 nights. On one of the days, they trekked for long hours and by the 5th hour, water supply within the group was low. They have been looking for a water source but unable to find one. With the level of heat and humidity, dehydration is a serious threat. When they did finally find a flowing stream, the urge to drink direct from it is great, something that any seasoned and educated adventurer will know not to do. Using their Lifestraw, everyone was able to rehydrate their bodies and that made a lot of difference in terms of group’s morale and even possible the groups level of safety.
Note: The group did not consider boiling water on this occasion because it is too time consuming (to boil and cool down)
Lifestraw started as an initiative to reduce the proportion of people worldwide without access to safe drinking water. This hand held device was also used extensively in disaster stricken areas in relief work. While there have been changes to the design, the product is still very popular as part of individuals survival kits, bug out bags and even as a traveling accessories especially to countries well known for their water cleanliness issues.
Lifestraw is now available in Malaysia viaOGM Shop.

Lifestraw tak boleh filter heavy metals, rasanya tak sesuai untuk air lombong, melainkan dah terdesak.
