The Forever 27 Club is made up of influential musicians who died, usually under tragic circumstances, at the age of twenty-seven.

Amy Winehouse
The most recent addition to the 27 Club, Amy Winehouse lived her battle with alcohol and drug addiction under the harsh spotlight of the entire British press. Found dead at her home on July 23rd, 2011 of alcohol poisoning, Winehouse was a uniquely talented singer, influenced by sixties girl-groups, jazz, rock n rock, old-school soul and R & B.

Kurt Cobain
“I’m not afraid of dying. Total peace after death, becoming someone else is the best hope I’ve got.”
Kurt Cobain, lead singer of influential nineties rock group Nirvana died by his own hand on April 8th 1994. Hailed as ‘spokesman for his generation’, Cobain was always uncomfortable with his fame and struggled to realise his artistic vision. Found in his Lake Washington home days after his death, controversy still surrounds the circumstances of his death by gun-shot.

Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix is hailed as the world’s original and best guitar superstar. Born in Seattle and serving for a time in the US army, Jimi Hendrix reached the peak of his fame in the late sixties but died after producing just one studio album. Hendrix died on 18th September 1970, cause of death was asphyxia caused by an overdose of barbituates.

Janis Joplin
The Queen of Psychedelic Soul, Janis Joplin died soon after Jimi Hendrix on October 4th 1970. Starting out with psychedelic-acid rock band Big Brother and the holding Company, Joplin is best remembered for her hits ‘Mercedes Benz’ and ‘Piece of My Heart’. Known as ‘Pearl’ to her friends, Joplin died of a heroin overdose in her Hollywood home.
Jim Morrison
The wild man of sixties rock and roll, Jim Morrison, frontman of The Doors, died soon after his contemporaries Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. The exact cause of Morrison’s death is still surrounded by controversy but it is believed that ‘the lizard king’ died of a heroin overdose in his bathtub in his apartment in Paris. Morrison died on July 3rd1971.
