Ex-MBPJ councillor goes missing after 'strange' Facebook post
PETALING JAYA: A former city councillor is feared to have gone missing after he posted an update on his Facebook page about a strange encounter with an unnamed man more than a week ago.
Peter Chong (pic), who served as a personal assistant to Subang MP R. Sivarasa for a few years until 2015, has been reportedly missing for several days. He was also a former Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) councillor.
It is learnt that his family lodged a police report on his disappearance Saturday.
When contacted, Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sukri Kaman confirmed that police received a report on Chong's disappearance.
News of his disappearance was widely spread on social media as Chong had posted a "strange" Facebook status on March 31, less than two weeks before his disappearance.
"Strange experience this morning. I was walking for my breakfast at my usual warung. A young motorcyclist rode up, and asked if I live around the area, I asked him back, why?" the social activist wrote.
"He said he recognised me, that I like to go for protests and candlelight vigils. I asked where is he from? I was a little worried and looked around but there were no one else around," he said.
"He said he sokong (supports) what I do. He said tapi "mahu hati-hati".. sekarang banyak orang tiba-tiba hilang. Mereka semua tahu mana orang tinggal. (You should be careful. Nowadays, there are many cases of people going missing. They know where people live)," he said.
"I asked, mereka itu siapa (who are they)? He just said, pandai-pandai la...(just be smart) ....take care boss.. and rode away. Now, is this strange?" he wrote.
Chong said that the stranger's words were "advisory" as such with no clear element of "ugutan" (threat).
"I cannot see any reason to make a report except for record purposes. Have checked with police friends who rightly says it's my right to report for record but do not expect any action to be taken unless there is a string of similar reports from others," he said.
From information on his Facebook page, Chong had attended prayer gatherings for pastor Raymond Koh who has been missing for nearly two months.
The 62-year-old Koh was abducted on Feb 13 at Jalan SS4B/10, Petaling Jaya. He left his house around 10am and was driving to a friend's house in Kelana Jaya.
CCTV footage believed to be of the incident has surfaced, showing at least 15 men and three black SUVs involved in the abduction.
A part-time Uber driver has since been arrested and charged with extorting RM30,000 from the missing pastor's son to secure his father's release.
Investigations into the case of Koh indicate that his abduction may have been connected to his attempt to spread Christianity in northern Malaysia.
It is learnt that a police report was lodged by a few individuals alleging that Koh and two others went to Kangar, Perlis, on Jan 19 and Jan 20 to influence a group of youths to convert to Christianity.

As days turn to months, questions grow in baffling abduction of four do-gooders (VIDEO)
KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 ― They had never met and were of different ages, colours and creeds but some 100 people who gathered at Dataran Merdeka here tonight found a common connection in the strange abduction of three Christians and a Muslim charity founder.
Members from Perlis Hope, a charity group from the northern state, expressed bafflement that their founder Amri Che Mat would be snatched by persons unknown. His work, they said, revolved around helping the poor and marginalised community, such as by donating rice.
“Perlis Hope is just an NGO that helps the marginalised, like giving rice to them every month.
“The question over his disappearance was weird. We are gathered here to uphold the right of the public, we want to know how he went missing,” its representative Datuk Mahmud Al-Kaf told the motley gathering huddled close as a drizzle fell over the historic square.
Mahmud thanked the people who turned up to express their solidarity in the name of humanity.
Mahmud said he and his group decided to join the vigil tonight as a reminder that “everyone is the same”, and not for the sake of any ethnicity or religion.
“Humanity must be defended, must be brought to the centre. We are not just the children of the nation, but the children of the whole world,” he said.
Amri, 43, is a foreign exchange trader and social activist who was abducted at Bukit Chabang, Perlis on November 24 last year.
He joins Pastor Raymond Koh, 62, of the secular charity group Harapan Komuniti helping single mothers, drug addicts and HIV patients, who was abducted in Petaling Jaya in February 13 this year.
In addition, pastor Joshua Hilmy and his wife Ruth, both in their 50s, were also abducted on November 30, 2016. He was last sighted at Kampung Tunku in Petaling Jaya.
All four of them remain missing to this day, and at least 46 civil societies banded together in the vigil to pressure authorities to focus their resources on solving the cases, and to give assurance that there is no organised body behind the abductions.
Although little is known about Hilmy and his wife’s abduction, the groups said Amri’s abduction was similar to Koh, who was abducted in broad daylight by masked men in a vehicle convoy.
Koh’s wife Susanna Liew, who also spoke at the vigil tonight, said she was just as hurt as Amri’s wife as both their husbands are missing, especially after a police report was reportedly lodged against Koh for alleged proselytisation in Perlis.
The one-hour vigil tonight was joined by supporters from across all ethnicities, who held candles and sang “Sejahtera Malaysia” at the end, under the watchful eyes of the police and Kuala Lumpur City Hall officers.
Among those who spoke were Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan representing the National Human Rights Society, who said that Malaysians must overcome and free themselves from fear despite the incidents.
Ambiga also pleaded to the abductors to return the victims, two who are Christian, before Easter next Sunday.
“Easter is coming. I’m hoping all the prayers of Malaysians will be heard… We’d truly like for the victims to be returned to their loved ones by Easter,” she said.

perlis hope tu sangat aktif bagi bantuan kat perlis nun..x tau isu ape sebenar yg berkaitan dgn amri tu..btw, dengar kabar dia mmg banyak duit coz uruskan forex..x tau la sahih ke x..
pasal syiah tu, rasa nye dalam perlis hope tu ada macam2 kaum..maybe kaum lain pun dah jafi syiah...

KANGAR • A Malaysian social activist from the northern state of Perlis has been missing for four months after apparently being kidnapped from his vehicle, with media reports saying the incident echoed the mysterious disappearance of a pastor in Selangor.
Mr Amri Che Mat, 44, is co-founder of charity organisation Perlis Hope. His family said police have not come up with any clue. His wife said witnesses saw five vehicles boxing in Mr Amri's vehicle before he was taken away.
In Mr Amri's case, his wife, Madam Norhayati Mohd Ariffin, said her husband was a helpful man who felt a deep sense of obligation to help the poor.
"I have heard people accusing him of being a Shia Muslim who tried to spread the teachings to others, but that's all nonsense," she said.
Madam Norhayati said witnesses saw five vehicles blocking the path of Mr Amri's car before he was taken away just 550m from their home. His black four-wheel drive was found later near Perlis' Timah Tasoh Dam with the windscreen smashed.
She said the incident happened on Nov 24 at about 11.30pm, and she lodged a police report the next day.
Another report was lodged on Dec 8 after she received statements from eyewitnesses.
She made a third police report on Feb 24 after receiving more information on her husband.
"We found someone who claimed that his cousin abducted Amri. We were sceptical until he mentioned that Amri was wearing orange slippers when he was abducted. He was indeed. But no action was taken," she claimed. Madam Norhayati is a primary school teacher and a mother of four children aged between 10 and 19.
"My husband has been missing from our lives for more than four months now. I miss my husband and the children miss their father," she said when met at her house on Monday.

The morning of Feb. 13, while Koh was on his way to a friend’s house in Petaling Jaya near Kuala Lumpur, three black SUVs surrounded his car and forced it to stop. Nearby closed circuit TV cameras captured video of masked men getting out of their cars and walking toward Koh. A struggle appeared to take place in Koh’s car before all of the vehicles left the area. The whole event took less than a minute, and Koh has not been seen since.

Another christian pastor and his wife have gone missing, since November 2016. The news has gone viral. Someone sent me this message : "Joshua Hilmi aka Hilmi Mohd Nor is Msian Malay citizen previously arrested under ISA, sued (the govt) and got million $ compensation for false arrest and detention abt 2 yrs ago. He converted to Christianity."
According to news portal Malaysiakini, Pastor Joshua Hilmy and his wife had been reported as missing by an individual claiming to be their close friend.
Citing a police report dated March 6, Malaysiakini said the man believed the couple have been missing since last November as they had not spoken with each other from that time onwards.
“This is not normal because we often keep in touch and contact each other at least a few times every month.
“Since November 2016, he hasn’t contacted me and my attempts to contact him have failed until today.
“For these reasons, I believe that he and his wife are missing and I am very worried about their safety,” the man was quoted saying in the police report.
While he initially thought the couple had gone holidaying, he later lodged the police report after speaking to their other friends.

It is learnt that Chong’s family lodged a police report on his disappearance yesterday.
A cryptic post made by Chong on his Facebook page, dated March 31, also raised questions over his disappearance.

Polis ckp dia kena kidnap sbb ada sangkut paut dgn forex yg dia buat tu. Ala2 scam org. Then ckp2 org plak tuduh dia syiah & nak sebarkan syiah dkt perlis, but his wife denied it. Since mangsa lain yg kena kidnap semua mcm ada related dgn kepercayaan dorang, so i nak assume amri ni pun kena kidnap sbb syiah not sebab forex
Yg 2nd case pastor hilmy langsung takde coverage dlm paper, tau kata dah hilang lepas pastor raymond kena kidnap. Itu pun yg tukang report agak2 je dia hilang sbb lost ctc. misteri sgt sbb bila polis tanya alamat, kereta apa jenis semua tukang report tatau. So mcm mana nak siasatkan. And mcm pastor hilmy hidup dlm persembunyian je. Pelik jugak family dia takde bg statement apa2
