kenapa forum ini dipanggil CARI forum??

sya masih tertanya2 sampai sekarang,
apa sebenarnya maksud disebalik nama CARI forum ni??
ada sesetengah org sebut forum CARI..

pendapat sya..
CARI forum atau forum CARI... bermaksud kita cari forum yg sesuai utk bincang sesuatu topic yg kita minat.

apa pulak pendapat korang .. jom share sama2..

KUALA LUMPUR--Malaysia's oldest search engine, Cari Internet, believes the current economic difficulties faced by many businesses could ironically help the company weather the storm and edge ahead of its rivals.

Ranked as one of the top ten portals in the country, Cari has always maintained a tight rein on its coffers, and this prudent fiscal management, which was its trademark even during the Internet boom, says founder and managing director Liew Chew Keat, will see the eight-man company through.

In an interview with CNETAsia recently, he said: "We are a very budget-conscious company and now that the Internet hype is over for good, we don't have to compete anymore with other dot-coms out there spending lots of money without thinking about revenues."

For example, Cari only spent about RM50,000 (US$13,156) on advertising and promotions this year, compared to a whopping RM450,000 (US$118,405) it had to dole out to keep up with the others during the Internet hype last year.

"Now everyone has to worry about revenues before splashing out money...and this is fine for us because we always believed in being prudent from day one," Liew said.

Liew developed the first version of Cari's search engines in 1996, especially geared to look for related Malaysian Web sites.

The company still has a large portion of the RM2.5 million (US$657,808) it received last year as venture capital funding from AKN.com for a 15 percent share in the company. AKN.com's share has subsequently been transferred to another private vehicle, Swansoft Technologies.

"This funding will keep us going for another two or three years," Liew said, adding that the company has not yet been profitable.

He declined to elaborate on revenues, but said that turnover is substantial on a monthly basis, resulting in a small profit on certain months.

"We are still living on the edge at times," Liew said wryly.

Cari has moved into the Web hosting in a big way since 1999--something which Liew said happened before other pure dot-coms jumped onto the bandwagon. Other services include Web design and Web applications.

Web hosting generates about 50 percent of Cari's revenue, with other corporate services like Internet marketing and Web applications services making up the rest.

"Our hosting services have a differentiation as we inter-link our clients into our search engine, hence they get better visibility...our rivals do not offer such a service," Liew claimed.

Cari boasts of about 500 clients, including big names like Epson, Yeos, Swiss Garden Hotel, Skali and Telekom Malaysia, right down to the small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Cari Internet also claims 600,000 unique visitors a month, with about 10 million pageviews on a monthly basis.

Recently, it launched another initiative, a do-it-yourself Web design program specially targeting SMEs who want a Web presence.
