Yun Soo (Choi Ji Woo) and Sae Na (Lee Jung Hyun) grew up like sisters in an orphanage. Yun Soo is the nice, sweet, beautiful, etc., while Sae Na is bad-tempered, stubborn, and extremely selfish but carries a lot of pain with her. When they were little girls growing up, they got a visit from the president of a large record company and his stepson, Sun Jae (Ryu Shi Won). Sun Jae's real father was killed by his stepfather although no one knows the truth. His mom (Lee Kyung Jin), remarried when Sun Jae was around 10, but Sun Jae believes that his stepfather is is real father and his mom was a mistress. His stepfather has two other children, Min Chul (Lee Byung Hun), and Min Ji (Shin Min Ah). They hate Sun Jae and his mom for barging into their lives. When they are all grown, Yun Soo starts working at the record store managed by Min Chul to look for Sae Na, who she lost contact with 5 years earlier. Sae Na wants to be a singer so Yun Soo hopes that she will see her there someday. But when Yun Soo finds Sae Na, a misunderstanding keeps Sae Na from growing close with Yun Soo. To make matters worse, Sae Na falls for Sun Jae, while Sun Jae and Yun Soo grow close. Yun Soo is deadly caught between two guys while Sae Na struggles to be a singer. Also, will the truth about Sun Jae's father ever be revealed?

Synopsis:
When orphan Kim Yeon-soo (Choi Ji-woo) leaves her best friend Kim Sae-na (Lee Jung-hyun) to seek a livelihood in Seoul, little did she expect to be embroiled in a love triangle with two brothers. Yeon-soo's superior, Lee Min-chul (Lee Byung-hun) is the confident and astute manager of Victory Records while his step-brother Lee San-jae (Ryu Si-won) is a medical student who has aspirations as a song-writer.

When Min-chul offers Yeon-soo the position of a governess to his wilful sister, Lee Min-ji (Shim Min-ah), Yeon-soo seeks a favour in return to groom Sae-na as a singer. Min-chul and Yeon-soo fall in love while San-jae develops a secret affection for her. However, San-jae's secret love for Yeon-soo aggravates the long-standing hostility between the two brothers.

Ever since Min-chul's father's second marriage to San-jae's mother, Min-chul and his sister have been estranged from the family. San-jae and his mother have been constantly blamed for breaking up Min-chul's family. However, a two-decades old secret reveals San-jae's birthright, shattering Min-chul and threatens his relationship with Yeon-soo. At the same time, Yeon-soo discovers that she is ill...

Review:
With a cast like Lee Byung-hun, Choi Ji-woo and Ryu Si-won, "Beautiful Days" is destined for success from the very start. Ratings sky-rocketed as Korean audiences remained glued to the goggle box week after week, awaiting the explosion of the great family secret and playing witness to the love between the lead characters Min-chul and Yeon-soo.

"Beautiful Days" is addictive. There are hardly any dull moments and the drama moves at a fast pace. Moreover, the cast is excellent -- from award-winning actor Lee Byung-hun to newcomer Shim Min-ah.

With several acting accolades to his name, Lee Byung-hun soars to greater heights in his acting career as the arrogant and enigmatic Lee Min-chul. As with Lee Byung-hun, it is always impossible to separate the character from the actor as each emotional transition of the character is delivered with finesse and ease. As the emotionally-ridden Min-chul, Lee Byung-hun interprets the different emotional states of the character just by a simple facial expression of a mere gesture, and it is a sheer delight to watch him in a complex role.

Choi Ji-woo is praise-worthy as the love-tormented Yeon-soo. She delivers her emotional scenes convincingly and leads the audiences into feeling her pain and sorrow without trying too hard. I personally think that this is one of her more successful roles. She is able to switch comfortably between her roles as the independent and strong sister to a woman who is easily crumbled by love.

More accustomed to watching Ryu Si-won as the optimistic and playful character, I found it difficult to accept him as San-jae, who is burdened by circumstances. Without the freedom to pursue his music interest, faced down by his hostile stepbrother and subsequently, the alarming revelation of his birthright -- San-jae is an emotionally demanding role and I thought Ryu Si-won could have done better. However, his scenes with Lee Byung-hun were excellent, constantly ridden with shouting matches and angst. The two men complemented each other with their realistic acting.

Lee Jung-hyun's role as Kim Sae-na is the wannabe singer and orphan friend of Yeon-soo. Having misunderstood Yeon-soo, she returns Yeon-soo's love and care with utmost hostility. Despite the general feedback that Lee Jung-hyun's character is irritating, I think she has done well in mirroring the insecurities of an orphan.

Worthy of mention is newcomer Shin Min-ah in her debut role as Lee Byung-hun's wilful sister. As the tantrum-throwing poor little rich girl, it is easy to feel empathy for her as she brings out the troubled nature of a young girl caught in the affairs of a broken family. The scenes where she shows her love for her brother (Min-chul) and the gradual trust in her governess (Yeon-soo) are endearing to watch. These are signs that that her acting career will be promising.

If you still need more reasons to watch "Beautiful Days", then look out for Lee Byung-hun's on-screen chemistry with Choi Ji-woo. They are definitely worth the watch as they sizzle amazingly in their first collaboration. On a last note, be prepared to be mesmerized by the beautiful soundtrack, it complements the drama to perfection.

Talking about the real love
This is a beautiful love story involving two men and two women. This drama tries to show what the real meaning of love is, the form of which seems to be dying from the memory of present day people. Lee Min-chul (Lee Byung-hun)
Decisive and arrogant, Min-chul is the son of Lee Sung-chun. His father's marriage leads to a long-standing hostility with his step-brother, Lee San-jae. His greatest concern is his sister, Min-ji, who is rebellious and confused in life. He is strongly attracted to Yeon-soo and opens his heart to her however, the realisation of his father's past crime threatens to destroy his newly found happiness.




Kim Yeon-soo (Choi Ji-woo)
Gentle and optimistic, Yeon-soo is an orphan with a zest for life and dreams of being an artist. She devotes her sisterly love to Sae-na, despite their misunderstanding. As Min-ji's governess, she patiently guides her in life, in spite of Min-ji's hostility. Despite San-jae抯 affection for her, she stands firm in her love for Min-chul however her illness lands her in an emotional struggle of her love for Min-chul.




Lee San-jae (Ryu Si-won)
Kind at heart, San-jae is the son of Lee Yong-jun and Jang Myong-ja. Faced with Min-chul's hostility since young, he attempts to bridge their differences, however, his affections for Yeon-soo further widen their relationship. With a deep passion for music, he explores his talent under a pseudonym, Zero. The realisation of Yong-jun's actual death and his actual birthright corners him into a dilemma.




Kim Sae-na (Lee Jung-hyun)
Wilful but kind at heart, Sae-na harbours dreams of being a successful singer. Orphaned since young, she finds a friend in Yeon-soo but her misunderstanding towards Yeon-soo creates a rift in their sisterly love. Sae-na develops a crush on San-jae but is dismayed to learn of his affections for Yeon-soo, this further threatens her trust for Yeon-soo. However, Yeon-soo's sincerity and illness touches her and they rebuild their relationship.




Lee Min-ji (Shin Min-ah)
Hostile and rebellious, Min-ji is estranged from her father because of his marriage to Myong-ja. Her only solace is Min-chul, whom she adores and respects. She deems Yeon-soo's presence as an intrusion and Yeon-soo's affection for her brother rakes her jealousy. However, Yeon-soo抯 patience and sincerity tugs at her heart and she embraces their friendship whole-heartedly. Sung-chun's scandal forces her to mature rapidly and she abandons her rebellious nature.




Kang Na-rae (Lee Yu-jin)
Boisterous and helpful, Na-rae is Yeon-soo抯 closest friend and confidante. She showers her with much care and shares her responsibility for Sae-na . She strongly objects to Yeon-soo抯 love for Min-chul due to the discrepancy in their status, however, she later plays a major part in their reconciliation. With Sae-na's step into stardom, she fulfils her dreams of being an artiste manager.


Lee Sung-chun (Lee Jung-kil)
Sung-chun accidentally killed his best friend, Lee Yong-jun over a dispute. Carrying a torch for Yong-jun's wife, he keeps his crime a secret and married her, resulting in a rift with his own children. Upon Kyong-hee抯 return, his secret is exposed which leads to Myong-ja's suicide. The scandal takes a toll on his business and destroys his relationship with San-jae, however, he finds comfort in Min-chul and Min-ji's forgiveness.


Jang Myong-ja (Lee Kyong-jin)
Kind-hearted and submissive, Myong-ja is a victim of circumstances. For the sake of her son, San-jae, she agrees to marry Sung-chun after her husband's death, which incurs the wrath of his children. When Min-chul finally realises the truth, his amiability warms her and she looks forward to better days ; unfortunately, the truth of Yong-jun抯 death crumbles her, guilt-stricken, she turns to suicide.


Yang Kyong-hee (Lee Hee-hyang)
A famous singer in her heyday, Kyong-hee was framed by Sung-chun for a drug charge. She learns of Yong-jun's death and is unable to forgive Myong-ja for remarrying. Upon learning of Sung-chun抯 involvement in Yong-jun抯 death, she leads San-jae to the truth and convinces him to seek revenge for his father. Impressed with Sae-na's talent, she offers her an opportunity to be a singer.

BD Introduction:  

Sun-jae's father and Sung-chun are like brothers.  Sun-jae's father was murdered by Sung-chun in 1975 before Sun-jae was born.  Sung-chun's involvement in the murder was covered up.  

In 1985 immediately after Sung-chun's wife dies, Sung-chun has Sun-jae and his mother moved in with him and his children (Min-chul and Minji).  Sung-chun tells everyone Sun-jae is his real son, but in actuality he is not.  Min-chul and Minji hate their father, Sun-jae and Sun-jae's mother. Sun-jae meets Yonsoo and Sena while visiting Grace Home (an orphanage).  Yonsoo is touched by Sun-jae's kindness.   Yonsoo accidentally burns Sena with hot water and is guilt-ridden.

In 1995, Yonsoo leaves Sena at the orphanage to look for a job and earn money so that Sena can join her later.  She promises to meet Sena at the Seoul Tower on Christmas Day.   

Fate eventually brings Yonsoo, Sena, Sun-jae and Min-chul together.

Beautiful Days, which aired in 2001, was destined for success from the very start with a cast like Choi Ji-woo, Lee Byung-hun, Ryu Si-won and Lee Jeong-hyeon. These top actors and actresses of Korea showed their best performance in the drama, which made viewers become glued to their TVs week after week. Departing from the previous image of a warm-hearted man, Lee Byung-hun successfully played the character of a charismatic and arrogant businessman. Lee Jeong-hyeon also projected her character as a selfish and strong-willed girl successfully. Beautiful Days fascinated audiences with its story of love, bitter rivalries, and secret family history surrounding the four lead characters. The drama's well-written story and great acting of the cast contributed to sky-rocketing ratings of the drama. Lee Jeong-hyun, a popular singer in real life, sang songs on the Beautiful Days soundtrack, which increased the popularity of the drama.

Synopsis
Min-cheol (Lee Byung-hun), a charismatic and astute businessman, and Seon-jae (Ryu Si-won), a soft and warm-hearted man, are half brothers. As a successful businessman in the recording industry, Min-cheol gets whatever he wants using his money and power. But Seon-jae lives in the shadow of Min-cheol and gives up many things. When poor but innocent and caring Yeon-su (Choi Ji-woo) appears before them, this fascinating story of love triangle begins. The two men fall in love with Yeon-su who works at the record company run by Min-cheol. Another main character is Se-na (Lee Jeong-hyeon), who grew up together with Yeon-su in an orphanage. As a wanna-be singer who is willing to do whatever it takes to be successful, she tries to use Seon-jae for her success.




Lee Min-cheol (played by actor, Lee Byung-hun)
Min-cheol is a general manager of Victory Records, a big record label. He is a charismatic man who is on his career path to inherit his father's record company. As a smart businessman, he always finds a breakthrough however difficult a situation might be. His capabilities in the music business earned him his nickname, "Midas touch", as he produces many big stars.

Even though she is an orphan, Yeon-su is very bright and optimistic. She does a part time job at one of Victory Records

Happy Together yg goggle tgk tu katt,versi Mandarin.LBH dlm cita tu agak comot lah sikit,bersesuaian dgn watak yg dia bawak.Tp dia still ciut & kelakar dlm cita tu.dlm cita ALL IN,watak yg dibawa oleh LBH mmg blainan dgn BD.goggle suka tgk watak In Ha kerana dia sanggup berubah & kehilangan segalanya demi cinta tp takdir juga yg menentukan perjalanan hidupnya.

lakonan LBH dlm cita ni mmg mantap bg goggle...

Suka tengok LBH berlawan dalam ALL IN......he's quite an expert in Taekwondo!:2cool: Gaya dia berlakon dari "nothing to a millionaire" tu memang berkesan.

In Happy Together, he was just a simple but lovable man......looking for his family, kan. Memang cute gayanya, cuba menggembirakan orang lain.


p/s: Ohh.....kurang minat dengan heroinnya ke. Saya pula suka dia in BD especially. IMHO, excellent chemistry dengan LBH.

Beautiful Days bukanlah semata-matanya melodrama cinta (walaupun itulah yang paling menonjol) tetapi ia juga menunjukkan aspek kekeluargaan yang kuat, dengan caranya yang tersendiri. Kasih-sayang antara adik-beradik, anak-beranak & sahabat karib. Juga bagaimana kehidupan 2 'adik-beradik' berubah sekelip mata disebabkan 'ayah' mereka.

Jalan ceritanya bagus terutama part Min Chul & Yeon Soo yang sangat sayangkan adik-adik mereka. Walaupun Min Ji & Sae Na were both hopeless spoilt brats but their brother and sister tak pernah give up on them. Mungkin inilah juga salah satu elemen yang membuatkan Min Chul mula 'tertarik' dengan Yeon Soo.  Shin Min Ah as Min Ji memang terbukti berbakat walaupun inilah drama pertamanya.

Watak Min Chul terutamanya, kalau diikutkan sepatutnya menjadi watak yang dibenci tapi cara lakonan Lee Byung Hun membuatkannya sangat menarik. Not your typical hero.....he's arrogant, domineering and sometimes heartless. Mulanya tak suka tengok cara dia layan Seon Jae (RSW) tapi bila kita lihat latarbelakang Min Chul, kita akan faham mengapa dia bertindak begitu......dia sangat-sangat bencikan Seon Jae & his mother. His anger towards his own father tu tak payah cakaplah. Sanggup pendamkan perasaan marah dan terus duduk sebumbung dengan bapanya hanya sebab nak pastikan bapanya tu takkan hidup bahagia. Tapi akhirnya bila segala-galanya terbongkar, dia jugalah yang menjaga bapanya tu. Mesej penting bahawa sejahat manapun seseorang itu, bapa tetap bapa dan anak tetap anak.

What impresses me the most dalam BD ialah lakonan yang berkesan from the cast.
