The film is set in 470 A.D. when the Roman Empire was crumbling and the last Roman emperor, the 12-year-old Romulus Augustus, escaped the rebels and set forth on a perilous trek to Britain with a small band of companions to track down his last legion. Apart from Aishwarya and Sir Ben Kingsley, the film stars Colin Firth, Thomas Sangster, Peter Mullan, John Hannah and James Cosmo. The movie was shot in Tunisia and Slovakia and is being distributed by MGM. The film hits theatres in the US early 2007.

Real DHOOM in Rio!

When three childhood friends team up together for a movie that promises wholesome entertainment, the process of making the film becomes entertaining too.
Work and fun went hand in hand when Abhishek Bachchan , Hrithik Roshan and Uday Chopra (three childhood friends) shot together for Sanjay Gadhvi? movie Dhoom 2 . And the bonhomie wasn? restricted to the three stars. The leading ladies, Aishwarya Rai and Bipasha Basu , too, couldn? keep away the fun spirit.
The stars particularly had swell of a time while shooting the film in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
The three friends would often regale the two actresses with anecdotes from their childhood and adolescence. In fact, Aishwarya goes on to say that after hearing their stories she felt as if she had always been a part of their group.
On another occasion, while shooting late at night at one of the carnivals in Rio, the entire team (including the actors) was absolutely exhausted. It was then, Uday Chopra, the naughtiest of them all, played the song ?ajra Re? on loudspeakers.
The song fuelled everyone. Ash, Abhi, Hrithik and Bipasha got up and danced to the number. Ash and Abhi danced the exact steps from their movie Bunty Aur Babli . This left the local Rio crowd applauding our Bollywood stars.
Often during the shooting in Rio, the five actors would also take long walks on the beach.

Aishwarya disowns Netherlands parcel

Aishwarya Rai today disowned a parcel containing Euro 23,000 (around Rs 13 lakh) from the Netherlands, saying she did not know the person who had sent it to her.
Taking a break from a film shoot in Jaipur, the actress appeared before the Customs officials at the Mumbai airport for over two hours and answered their questions.
"She has told the officials that she does not know this person either professionally or personally," her lawyer Girish Kulkarni, who was also present during the questioning, told PTI. In a statement to the officials, Aishwarya said she did not have to recover any dues from any such person who has sent the packet, he said.
"We are unnecessarily being made a party to it.... we do not know if the man exists at all or if someone has fraudulently sent the money," the lawyer said. "Now it was up to the Customs authorities to get in touch with their counterparts in the Netherlands, gather more details on the case and revert to us," he said, adding that the actress has given a statement to the officials clarifying her stand as per the law.
A large contingent of media people, including photographers, waited outside the New Customs House in south Mumbai, for the actress to arrive following a tip off, but the questioning took place at the airport itself. Later she left for Jaipur.
The parcel, sent from Rotterdam in the Netherlands carrying her name and address arrived at the Foreign Post Office here around the end of September. It had an electronic item as declared. Besides the currency, it also contained a top-brand shirt, a pair of binoculars, a DVD player and other electronic items. The Euro currencies were contained in a white cover in the parcel, which was not declared. |

Abhishek, Aishwarya perform special pujas in Varanasi

VARANASI: Bollywood stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai kept rumours of their impending marriage alive on Monday by performing rituals done only by married couples in two major temples of the city.
The couple, which arrived in the city late on Sunday, went from one temple to another to perform the rituals in the dead of night.
A local journalist, who sneaked into the heavily guarded Kashi Vishwanath Temple in the guise of a priest, witnessed the rituals that began at around 3 a.m. and continued till nearly 6 a.m. Two rituals were performed at the temple and one at the Sankat Mochan Hanuman temple nearby.
?he rudrabhishek puja performed by the duo in the presence of the entire Bachchan family is usually done by married couples only,? said a temple priest who did not wish to be identified.
Family priest Chandramouli Upadhyaya, who was the first to call on the Bachchan family at the Taj Ganges hotel shortly after their arrival, told media persons: ?he family was here to perform certain prayers on the birth anniversary of Amitabh? father, famous Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan.?
However, when scribes sought to know what Aishwarya had to do with such a closed family affair, he said: ? don? know.?
Bollywood? first family arrived here by a chartered flight around 10.20 p.m. and were huddled into waiting vehicles and driven straight to the Taj from the airport? rear gate to avoid inquisitive media persons and cameramen.
Upadhyaya visited them after they reached the hotel. Later, around 2.30 a.m., senior district officials escorted the family to Kashi Vishwanath Temple where priest Pandit Sitaram Shastri carried out a special ?angala aarti? for them, which was followed by the ?udrabhishek? puja .
Besides Amitabh, or Big B as he is popularly known, his actress-MP wife Jaya, daughter Shweta, brother Ajitabh and niece Namrata were amongst those who joined in the prayers. Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh, who had arrived with the entourage, was present as well.
Around 4.30 a.m., they left for the Sankat Mochan temple and attended a nearly hour-long aarti there.
They were surrounded by an extremely tight security ring comprising local police and personnel from the Sahara India group.
The entourage returned to the hotel around 6 a.m. While Abhishek and Aishwarya are scheduled to leave for Agra, Amitabh, Jaya and the others are to flying back to Mumbai, a local official said. |

Big opening for Dhoom 2

Dhoom 2, described as ? Modern Bollywood Treatment of Mischief? by a leading news daily, had the third largest opening ever for a Bollywood film in North America, netting $979,001 over the weekend.
The film, which officially opened at No. 17, also had the biggest opening ever for a non-Shah Rukh Khan film.
The top three grossers over the weekend were: Happy Feet $37 million, Casino Royale $30.7 million and Dj Vu $20.5 million according to boxofficeguru.com, Meanwhile, in a review, the leading news daily said, Dhoom 2 may represent the newfangled Bollywood, but old-fashioned star power is what animates and elevates it above its occasional narrative flaws.
?When Hrithik Roshan? surprisingly green eyes meet Aishwarya Rai? surprisingly blue ones, it? a delirious moment of un-self-conscious, slightly cartoonish movie magic,? says reviewer Rachel Saltz.
?The film is a more-than-equal-opportunity ogler. The camera comically lingers on Rai, playing a thief who teams up with Aryan, and Bipasha Basu, as the policewoman Shonali and her twin sister, the bikini-clad Monali.
?The pleasure principle is palpable in the giddy, slick Dhoom 2, a satisfying example of the new, thoroughly modern Bollywood. The film is shot in sharp, primary colours, with sophisticated stunts, exotic location hopping and songs sung partly in English (and available on iTunes no less).
?Beginning in the Namibian desert with a bit of post-colonial mischief - the theft (literally) of the British crown ? and making stops in Mumbai and Rio de Janeiro, this cops and robbers tale embraces and devours every clich? Style (except, thankfully, naturalism) and half-naked body (ah, Rio!) it encounters.
?Hrithik Roshan plays Aryan, the ?martest and coolest thief alive?, as his police nemesis, Jai (Abhishek Bachchan), enthuses. (Jai to Aryan: ? like your confidence?; Aryan to Jai: ? like you.?) And the buffest: at the mere hint of a flamenco beat, Roshan whips off his shirt,? says Saltz. |

Aishwarya to play Jhansi ki Rani!

If everything goes right, Aishwarya Rai can play the legendary warrior queen, Rani of Jhansi in Ayesha Shroff's next. As per latest, Ayesha, wife of actor Jackie Shroff, has set to produce the big-budget epic and wants Aishwarya in the role of Rani.
It was being buzzed that 'Mangal Pandey' director Ketan Mehta can make a movie on Rani; however at present it's under consideration only, whereas Ayesha Shroff has gone much ahead of Ketan with her project. As per reports, research work has already been complete for the movie and the pre-production work to take off soon.
Ayesha wants to hire a director from Hollywood for the film.
Actress Sushmita Sen had wanted to produce a movie on the Rani Laxmibai, so as she could play the title role. It's a dream role for Sushmita. Also actress Rani Mukherji's very keen to play the role. But it finally went to Aishwarya, which has definitely made the beautiful lady flying high. |

Obsessions can be of various textures. Qatar-based fashion designer Mohammed Sultan Sheikh? is that of making expensive dresses for actress Aishwarya Rai. For his latest creation, the 28th one, he spent his life? savings ? Rs 37lakh to be precise ? to make a train dress for the actress.
So what prompted him to design this dress? ?ejection and anger,? he says.
When the 39-year-old landed in India, and at Rai? doorstep, earlier this year to tell her about his creations, her guards turned him away, threatening to brand him a ?oreign spy? and throw him in prison. ?ishwarya says her fans are more important than anything else. Then why was I shooed away by her guards?? asks Sheikh, who is of Indian origin, in a telephonic interview from Doha.
Sheikh, who owns two boutiques in Qatar, tried to meet the actress for over a month, but in vain. ?veryday, I would land up at Aishwarya? doorstep only to be turned away. I even sold my flat to make clothes for her. But she refused to meet me,? he rues.
Upset, he finally returned to Qatar.
But his attraction for Aishwarya scored over his anger, and he set about to create the Rs 37-lakh dress. ?y only desire is to make her wear one of my dresses in a movie ? the latest one if possible,? he says in a mixture of broken English and Hindi. And adds, ?f she marries Abhishek Bachchan, then she could wear it for their reception. But I?l need Amitji? permission for that.?

Talking about the train dress that took six months to make, he says, ?t is 25 m long and weighs 200 kg.? While this dress is made from 405 m of cloth, Sheikh has used close to 4,000 m of cloth to make 28 dresses for Rai in the last four years. He? even made several attempts to find a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

NEW DELHI (AFP) - Two of Indian film's leading stars visited a temple to offer prayers, fueling rumors that actress Aishwarya Rai and popular heart-throb Abhishek Bachchan were set to wed, reports said.
Rai, Bachchan and his star parents, Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan and actress Jaya Bahaduri, went to the Hindu city of Varanasi to appease Mars and take ritual baths, the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency said on Monday.
The prayers were being offered to clear up mismatches in their stars, the Times Now news channel reported, referring to the Indian custom of checking a couple's horoscopes to make sure they are compatible.
Rai, who was voted among the top 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine in 2004-05, has a poorly placed Mars, the channel said, which could have a negative influence on her own and her husband's life.
According to Indian astrologers, in the worst cases, those who wed a person with a badly placed Mars will die an early death.
Indian celebrity journalists claim that previous actors who have dated the former Miss World have suffered a string of flops for the duration of the romance. Rai herself is sorely in need of a hit film, industry observers say.
Yet Rai is easily India's biggest female celebrity and the Times Now channel showed mobs of people milling around for a glimpse of the stars at the temple in the north Indian city on the banks of the sacred river Ganges.
More than two dozen priests presided over the prayers, which lasted an hour and a half, the PTI report said.
"They performed the rituals with great zeal. Amitabh and Jaya offered the 'jalabhishek' (offering water to the deity). I also requested Abishek and Aishwarya to do so," said temple priest Srikant Tripathi.
The Bollywood rumor drive has been in overdrive in recent weeks speculating that the film world's top stars may wed.
The Times of India reported Sunday that the Bahcchan family had taken Rai to task for a steamy kissing scene opposite another actor.
Rai frequently spends time with the family and the two actors have starred together in at least three major films this year. |

BHOPAL, India (Reuters) - A kissing scene from a movie starring Bollywood actors Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan has irked a lawyer who has filed a criminal case against them, accusing them of obscenity, he said on Sunday.
Shailendra Dwivedi of Indore said the scene from the movie, titled "Dhoom 2", lowered the dignity of Indian women and gave an obscene message to youth.
"Bollywood actors are conveying vulgarity in the society," Dwivedi told Reuters. "These films cannot be watched with our families, they are so vulgar at times." |
