1. GK Gianluigi Buffon
Had by far his best game of the competition. When called upon made the crucial saves and denied the Czechs that important first goal. Proved once and for all that events back home were not affecting his performances. He will hope that his form continues into the knockout stages.
Rating: - 4/5

19. RB Gianluca Zambrotta
Shifted to the right of defence in this match. Showed once again that he is adept to playing on both sides of defence. Lippi might opt to play him on the right and Grosso on the left even in the knockout phases.
Rating: - 3.5/5

13. CB Alessandro Nesta
He picked up a slight knock and the substitution might have been more of a precautionary nature. Unfortunately for Italy, he has been ruled out of the next match. Was on the pitch for too short a time for a decent evaluation.

5. CB Fabio Cannavaro
He is at the top of his form right now. In all three of Italy抯 matches he has been the pillar of strength at the back on which the Italian defence rests. No wonder clubs like Real Madrid are hovering over to sign him if Juventus are to face major disciplinary action.

3. LB Fabio Grosso
Made his way back into the team after Zambrotta decided to shift on the right. Packed a decent performance. However, didn抰 have much to do as most of the Czech attacks materialized through Nedved in the center.

21. CDM Andrea Pirlo
Shifted to a holding midfielder抯 role in this match. Was good at the back making some good tackles. Wasn抰 involved in much of the attacks today, but nearly dribbled his way to a goal in the closing stages.

16. RCM Mauro Camoranesi
Was named in the starting lineup for the first time today. Was pretty good going ahead as well as back. However, he should have scored from a Totti corner. Has scope for improvement. Was brought off for Barone.

8. CM Gennaru Gatusso
As usual solid as a stone. Put in those crunching challenges and proved why he is on the shop list of clubs like Manchester United. Picked up a booking for a rather forceful challenge on Nedved. Will look to continue into the knockout stages.

20. LCM Simone Perrotta
Made his way back from a minor injury. Shifted to a more central role this time round. However, most of the play went through Totti rather than him. Lippi might revert to playing two strikers and playing him on the mid flanks as he has showed more promise there.

10. CF Francesco Totti
Played the full 90 minutes for the first time in the tournament. Was playing provider to the lone Gilardino. The Azzuri, will however be wanting more from their playmaker. Surprisingly tried to chip the 6ft 7 Cech o a couple of occasions, when a clear shot would have been a better option. His corners were really good.

11. ST Alberto Gilardino
Couldn抰 do much today as the lone striker. The two center backs were always there to counter his threat. May ask Lippi to provide atleast one more striking partner. Was taken off for Inzaghi in the 65th minute.

Substitutes
23. CB Marco Materazzi
Couldn抰 have had a better game, even if he had wished too. Brought on for Nesta in the 15th minute, he scored with a wonderful header. Was solid at the back as well. Made more than a few good tackles. All in all, a good game for him.

18. ST Filippo Inzaghi
Played his first game of the finals and didn抰 disappoint. Missed two clear cut chances after coming on. But then scored Italy抯 second after rounding off Cech. Will be pleased to give Lippi even more striker headaches.

Didn抰 play for enough time to give any evaluation.
