The Spaniard continued his improvement in form with a confident display that included an excellent fingertip save to keep out De Jong's effort in the first-half.
Fabio Da Silva 6.0
Solid defensive performance from the Brazilian full-back. The only blip was a booking for a rash tackle.
Jonny Evans 6.0
Calm and alert display in central defence to keep Bulykin subdued. Comfortable on the ball but made a couple of sloppy passes.
Phil Jones 7.0
Played at right-back and was defensively solid while constantly offering an attacking outlet. Bombed forward down the right flank with pace, power and skill.
Rio Ferdinand 6.0
Clever defensively as he showed his anticipation to snuff out Ajax attacks. Rightly saw a penalty shout waved away following a challenge on Sulejmani on the stroke of half-time.
Ashley Young Top of the Match 7.0
After a mixed first-half in which his end product was missing, the winger opened the scoring in the 59th minute, keeping his cool to cut inside and shoot through the goalkeeper. Grew in confidence and had the beating of Anita.
Michael Carrick 5.5
Did little wrong but played largely a supporting role, keeping the United midfield ticking along. Was not allowed the time he wanted to pick out incisive passes.
Nani 5.5
The Portuguese winger found space to cause problems and delivered the cross in the build-up to Young's opener. Until that stage, his final delivery had been poor, summed up by a badly mishit shot.
Tom Cleverley 6.0
Played an hour in central midfield after making his first appearance since an ankle injury sustained in October. Picked out a couple of good first-time passes out wide.
Chicharito 6.5
The Mexican's movement was a constant danger and he took his only clear chance five minutes from time with a typical strike. Despite his goal threat, his touch and build-up play outside the penalty area was generally poor.
Wayne Rooney 7.0
Not on top form but was still able to act as United's creative hub, particularly after the break. Produced a couple of weak shots from distance before setting up Hernandez's goal late on.
• Substitutions
Antonio Valencia 6.5
Replaced Young in the 76th minute and played a key role in Hernandez's goal, winning the ball before starting the attack. Limped off injured immediately, which will be a worry for United.
Paul Scholes 6.0
Replaced Cleverley in the 61st minute and helped United to complete a professional display, dictating the tempo in the final half-an-hour.
