King Khan has Mizo fans, thanks to TV ads

A mere 10% of Mizos in this north eastern town speak Hindi. An even lesser percentage probably watch Bollywood movies. Yet, ask them who's their favourite actor and pat comes the reply: "Shah Rukh Khan."

They love him doing the snake charmer act, in the Pepsi commercial. It's true. The frenzy created when the commercial is flashed on television has got nothing to do with popularity of the cola.

It is the actor that the commercial ends up popularising, instead of King Khan promoting the drink.

"I love to watch Shah Rukh Khan's latest ad, but Pepsi is not my favourite drink," says Michael M Sailo, a top music artiste of the state.

Sailo has become a celebrity in the north-east, his hip-hop numbers finding favour with locals, after he performed at the opening act of Michael Learns to Rock Shillong gig last year.

Mahlimi, an avid fan of Hollywood films says, "For me Bollywood mainstream movies are not on. I never watch Shah Rukh's films, but I am a fan of his." Mahlimi like many other youths in Aizawl had seen Shah Rukh only in television commercials.

Francis Z Paite, manager of Modern Book Stall, agrees, "I have never watched even a single movie of Shah Rukh Khan, but know who he is because I love his television commercials."

The commercial which features the Bollywood blockbuster film Asoka's lead pair, Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor, has already garnered more fans than the film itself. The two Bollywood stars were seen breaking the ice together in the Pepsi commercial.

Khan's fans know it is shot at Venice, Italy, which also features music composer and singer Adnan Sami and Mizo youths know him only through the Pepsi commercial.

Manisha Koirala in eye of storm as she canvasses for candidate

Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala, daughter of Nepal's Science and Technology Minister Prakash Koirala, is in the eye of storm for campaigning for a mayoral candidate for the February 8 local body polls which have been described as "stage managed" by the parties opposed to the King.

As Nepal was paralysed following a nationwide shutdown called by the seven pro-democracy parties, the actress was at the Morang District Election Commission office in Biratnagar to propose the name of the mayoral candidate and file nominations on behalf of Binod Aryal, a former member of the Nepali Congress, who is running for the post as an independent candidate.

While star-struck youngsters lined up the road to catch a glimpse of Manisha and asked her to sign autographs, members of the Nepal Students Union shouted slogans against the actress and displayed black flags.

The star was, however, unfazed. "I am not scared of anybody protesting against me...I have come here all the way from Mumbai to get Aryal elected," a report in a national daily quoted her as telling the gathering.

'Aryan' - a milestone for Sohail

'Aryan' is one of the forthcoming movies of Bollywood. Though there have been many movies based on games, especially boxing, but this is different inasmuch as it has got its two actors -Suhel Khan and Inder Kumar - trained in boxing at the hands of an Australian boxer. So, 'Aryan' may prove a milestone in the filmi career of Sohail Khan. Actor Abhishek Kapoor of 'Ooph Yeh Mohabbat', 'Ashiq Mastana' and 'Shikaar' fame, has written his debut scrip for the movie. Similarly, it's the debut film of singer Poonam Khubani known for her art and meaningful cinema. Incidentally, Hitesh Israni's 'Telebrands' is producing this movie under its banner of Telebrands Entertainment. Cricketer Kapil Dev will also be there as a guest. The movie centers around Sohail Khan who learns in defeat rather than in victory. Aryan (Sohail) possesses everything in life but accidentally loses all. Look alike of Aishwarya Rai Sneha Ullal plays Neha and is a love interest of Aryan. She leaves no stone unturned to make Aryan's life strong, and Aryan struggles hard to fulfill his cherished dreams. The movie shows how Aryan succeeds in his aim at last.

Bollybabes with the lust factor!

Rani Mukherjee is known more as a brilliant actress than a 'hot and sexy' glam-doll. And we're sure she prefers it that way. Known to get along well with people, Rani is ambitious and focused. Her no-nonsense attitude and ability to stay away from controversies makes her a name to reckon with.

Gladrags Supermodel 1995 and Miss Universe 2000 Lara Dutta is definitely one the hottest bods around. Her tall, athletic figure and wonderful conduct gives her an air confidence.

Actress Antara Mali who made her debut with Company, has showcased her 'sexiness' on screen. Her flat tummy and her ring-adorned buttonhole has not gone unnoticed.

Actress Mahima Chaudhary made her debut with the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pardes. The lass was always the pretty girl next door. And has gradually matured into a sultry woman of substance.

After winning the Femina Miss India title, actress Neha Dhupia made her entrance to the silver screen doing an Ursula Andress. Neha emerged from the dark blue waters in a bikini. Ever since she has been described as 'hot' and 'sexy'.

Actress Kashmera Shah has always been touted as 'sexy' and 'hot'. With her having lost oodles of weight, the lady has worked herself back to shape only to regain her lost image. And there's more.

Preity Zinta's exuberance and energetic nature makes her a woman any man would like to take to his mother. The actress has become a huge hit with the masses after delivering good perfomances in movies like Koi Mil Gaya, Kal Ho Naa... Ho, Salaam Namaste.

Actress Urmila Matondkar was one of the firsts to be touted as 'sexy' and 'hot'. Her perfect ten figure and sensuos on-screen pout made her a huge hit with the masses.

Applauded for her performance in films like Kaho Naa Pyar Hai and Gadar, Amisha Patel is is one the top-notch actresses of our country today. The fair, petite damsel has a beautiful face - long hair, spotless complexion and luscious lips. And that makes her desirable, ok.

I am jealous of my sister: Shilpa

Leggy lass Shilpa Shetty, recently in Lucknow to launch a VLCC beauty salon, talks about her relation with Shamita and what makes her envious of her equally sexy sister.

What kind of a relationship do you share with your sister? Are you jealous of her?
Yes, in a way. It is a healthy sibling rivalry that we share. This jealousy often helps me to become more competitive and more beautiful than her and helps me in performing better.

Like you is your sister also a fitness freak?
She is a bugger freak. I remember not having eaten properly for ten days before shooting for Baras Jaa. I got goose bumps at the thought of appearing with her in the same frame at studio sets.

You are a non-vegetarian. Then how come you got associated with PETA?
Being a meat eater is one thing and feeling about animals is another thing. I want to protect the rights of animals. I just love them. I have been associated with PETA for the last four years. I do admit that I am not a vegetarian and therefore I can't be the formal ambassador for their cause. But I am their true ambassador. I have also done anti-zoo campaigns for PETA. My parents have taught Shamita and me to love animals.

Do you owe your success to your beauty or talent?
Both I guess. My genes are blessed and therefore I have a beautiful face and a sexy figure. But I also have unique dancing skills and a talent for acting. That is why I am surviving triumphantly in the industry. I joined Bollywood when I was only 17. When I joined the industry I was OTT epoch.

What is OTT epoch?
It was Over The Top epoch where actresses were under the impression that the more make-up you put the better you look but now there is a welcome change.

Do you think that the audience has awakened?
Yes. The audience today is very wise. They want their money's worth. The audience can't be befooled now. They want good quality films. By quality films I mean films that give them good entertainment. TV is now a big competitor. I welcome the new wave in films, which allows strong portrayals of women.

Are you associated with the AIDS awareness program?
Yes. My heart definitely reaches out for AIDS patients who had wrongly reached out for bodies of many women or men In my movie Phir Milenge, I have played the role of an HIV positive.

How was the experience of doing a non-glam film like Phir Milenge?
I think Revathi is a brilliant director as well as a brilliant actress. Unlike others she does not dictate terms. She gives space to the actor and that is when the performance comes out spectacularly. I think she passed on everything she had learnt, in all these years, to me. My awe for this southern actress-turned director has only grown since I came into contact with he.

Are you game for exposure in the years to come?
Of course, if the occasion demands.

Are you a God-fearing person?
Yes, very much. God is above everything and everybody else. I never crack cheap jokes about God. I am very religious. I also believe that God has planned everything for us in advance.

So, what projects are there in the pipeline?
I am doing Aapne  with Dharmendraji, Sunny Deol and Katrina Kaif. I think Dharmendraji is the most sexy and handsome man in the film industry.

Do you plan to do crossover films?
I don't plan to move to Hollywood or do any crossover project.

Bollywood Beauties with a Naked Face!

Ever wonder what hides behind the mask of heavily caked base, blush, shadow and liner? Peel it off, layer by layer, and you see the real thing. The quintessential beauty. The icon that colours fairy tales of love, lust and longing. And while beauty may be in the eyes of the beholder and the artistry of make-up artistes, what lies beneath tells a whole new and true story. Even if brushstrokes recreate the magic of Cinderella and Cleopatra, the age of dolled darlings is pass

The Current decade: Of Unisex extravaganza

The new millennium saw the advent of unisex fashion. Heroes are getting makeovers and styled for the first time in the history of Indian cinema. Peroxide and jewellery are not just for the heroines. The emphasis is not just on clothes and shoes but also on cars, phones and accessories. Gone are the days when a hero or a heroine would be associated with a particular look, these days specific looks are cultivated for specific movies. Well, the times they are a-changin' .

While Shah Rukh Khan  and his iconic fashion style still dictate terms as the new year begins, Aamir  too dictates trends with the look for every film. If King SRK goes blonde for a film, Aamir goes long (and mustached too).

Ex-Miss World Aishwarya Rai with her perfect beauty is one of the biggest style icons today. Her ghaghra cholis in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' were copied by many aspiring designers and worn at weddings by many aspiring Ashs. She looked stunning in films like 慣aal

Do Bollywood's 'hot babes' have it tough?

Some months ago Bipasha Basu had been physically abused in a posh upmarket restaurant by a drunken man. It was the swift intervention of her boyfriend that prevented the situation from snowballing into a fight.

I don't think Bipasha got it right when she opined: "This could've happened to any actress. Such predatory male attention has nothing to do with my image or celebrity status. Thousands of working girls are vulnerable to eve teasing each day. They are not all well known faces."

Bipasha's line of argument notwithstanding, the fact remains that actresses with 'hot' images are more prone to predatory attention than their counterparts with relatively sedate images.

It's no coincidence that post-"Murder" Mallika Sherawat caused stampedes wherever she went.

After the film, in which she showed a lot of flesh, the audience thought Mallika was a 'chalu cheez', never mind if she protested that she lived like a nun. Fans would have none of it.

I remember her concern for her well-being after "Murder" was declared a blockbuster.

"It's very tough for a single girl specially if she has a sexy image," Mallika sighed. I suggested she get a male member of her family to stay with her. She got her brother over from her home town Rohtas (that's where she claimed to be from).

Now I hear Mallika has appointed two bouncers to protect her. God bless her.

Actresses have always been prone to sexual attacks. It's to do with the way they conduct themselves.

Nobody would dare to mess around with Hema Malini. But her daughter Esha Deol, who has acquired a bold image after "Dhoom", is susceptible to bouts of bawdy behaviour in public.

"You learn to deal with it, I guess. And the best way to deal with unwanted attention is to ignore it," says Raveena Tandon, who has sailed through more than a decade of high-flying success as a diva and is today blissfully ensconced in matrimony and motherhood.

"It all depends on your own conduct. No one would dare look lewdly at actresses of the past. Meena Kumarji or Hemaji were like goddesses. Today you see the girls dancing half-naked in your homes (on TV). What impression can the average moviegoer take away, except that today's heroines are easy prey," says the legendary Asha Parekh.
