In 2012, Google unveiled its futuristic Google Glass, a type of wearable eyeglass-computer which featured touchpad and voice control, a LED illuminated display and a camera, to the public. While touted as the latest “it” in tech toys, concerns over privacy and safety and a lack of a clear purpose in everyday life ultimately stymied its success in the commercial market. Its technology however has been applied for several uses in healthcare, journalism and the military.

On August 10, 2015, Brin and Page announced that Google and its divisions were being restructured under the umbrella of a new parent company called Alphabet, with Brin and Page serving as Alphabet's respective president and CEO.

In November 2016, Brin was ranked No. 13 on Forbes' "Billionaires" list, and No. 10 among U.S. billionaires who made the list. According to Forbes.com, as of November 2016, Brin's net worth was $37.9 billion. As director of special projects at Google, Brin shared the company's day-to-day responsibilities with Page, who served as Google's CEO, and Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of the company.

Brin immigrated to the United States with his family from the Soviet Union at the age of 6. He earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Maryland, College Park, following in his father's and grandfather's footsteps by studying mathematics, as well as computer science. After graduation, he enrolled in Stanford University to acquire a PhD in computer science. There he met Page, with whom he built a web search engine. The program became popular at Stanford, and they suspended their PhD studies to start up Google in Susan Wojcicki's garage in Menlo Park.

In 2012, Brin has been involved with the Project Glass program and has demoed eyeglass prototypes. Project Glass is a research and development program by Google to develop an augmented reality head-mounted display (HMD).The intended purpose of Project Glass products would be the hands-free displaying of information currently available to most smartphone users,and allowing for interaction with the Internet via natural language voice commands.

Brin was also involved in the Google driverless car project. In September 2012, at the signing of the California Driverless Vehicle Bill,Brin predicted that within five years, robotic cars will be available to the general public.

Brin adalah presiden teknologi pada Google dan mempunyai perkiraan kekayaan $18.7 milyar, yang membuatnya menjadi orang nomor 26 terkaya di dunia.

Sergey lahir  dari sebuah keluarga Yahudi. Ayahnya yang bernama Mikhail Brin dan ibunya Evgenia Brin adalah ahli matematika lulusan Moscow State University. Pada tahun 1979, ketika Brin berumur enam tahun, keluarganya pindah ke Amerika Serikat.

Sebagai anak ahli matematika, Sergey mengenyam pendidikan yang komplit. Pendidikan dasar  dia  dapat di sekolah elit Paint Branch Montossori, Adelphi, Maryland. Kemudian melanjutkan ke pendidikan menengah di Eleanor Roosevelt High School. Setelah lulus tahun 1990, Sergei melanjutkan ke jurusan ilmu komputer dan matematika di University of Maryland, College Park. Sergei meraih gelar Bachelor of Science pada tahun 1993. Lalu melanjutkan pada tingkat master di Stanford University Selain itu, ia juga sempat belajar bidang bisnis hingga menyabet gelar MBA dari IE Bussiness School.

Sergey Brin menggeluti dunia informasi dan komunikasi selama menjadi mahasiswa di Stanford. Brin menunjukkan ketertarikannya pada internet tak lama setelah diterima di Stanford. Dia menulis banyak paper yang membahas tentang data-mining dan pattern extraction. Dia juga menulis software yang dapat mengubah Text menjadi HTML untuk memudahkan tugas-tugasnya.

Di Stanford, ia bertemu Larry Page tahun 1995 yang memiliki ketertarikan sama dalam bidang internet.  Dari sinilah search engine Google lahir. Page dan Brin kemudian bahu membahu, bekerja sama mendalami, menuangkan ide  hingga tercetuslah gagasan mengenai mesin pencari (search engine) untuk menemukan data-data, situs dan halaman web yang ada di dunia maya. Sergey dan Larry kemudian menulis sebuah karya berjudul "The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine". Karya ini ditengarahi sebagai pondasi berdirinya perusahaan mesin pencari yang mereka beri nama google.
