Given each year to an outstanding motorsport figure by Brisighella, the home town of the personable Italian driver who died as a result of an horrific crash in the 1967 Grand Prix of Monaco, the trophy acknowledges a driver's success as well as his association with Italy.
Kart racer Kubica moved to Italy as a youth to advance his racing career. His embrace included language fluency and a fondness for the food. |

Barrichello on top from Fisichella...
Testing continued today at Circuit de Catalunyawith nine of the 11 Formula One teams in action. Felipe Massa抯scintillating Monday pace with the slick shod Ferrari remained unbeatentoday but Rubens Barrichello got close in the updated Honda.
The four-day test in Barcelona normally provides a clear indication asto what to expect in the forthcoming Spanish Grand Prix, but this yearthe test is a little different with some concentrating on the 2008programme, while others are looking further down the line andcollecting date for the proposed 2009 rules. With a mix of slick andgrooved tyre combinations as well as various aerodynamic packages onboard the cars, it is hard to read too much into the overall test times.
Sporting various new aerodynamic appendages, Honda topped thetimesheets today with veteran Barrichello. The Brazilian put in 79 lapswith a best time of 1:18.928s. The RA108 today featured what I like toterm as 慴unny ears |

Honda shows new wings
InTuesday's test session at Circuit de Catalunya the Honda Formula 1 teamis testing two little wings attached to the car's front wing. The BMWSauber team is the only team running the same kind of wings in Formula1, although Honda placed the same wings up-side-down compared to thewings they are using at BMW.
Thisweek's three-day test session in Barcelona proves to be an importanttest for teams testing various radical changes to their cars. Ferraritested a brand-new front wing with a open air space on top of theirwing. At Renault the team copied Red Bull's engine cover to try andtest it in Spain. |

Formula 1 first visited Spain in 1951 when the race was held on thedaunting Pedralbes circuit. Following a second race in 1954 the countrylost its World Chanmpionship round for over a decade.
1967 saw the return of Grand Prix cars, albeit in a non-championshiprace at the Jarama circuit. The event was successful enough to earnSpain a place on the championship calendar for 1968. Between then and1975 the race alternated between Jarama and the challenging MontjuichPark street circuit.
The final race at Montjuich Park was highly controversiol. Driverswere unhappy about poorly secured crash barriers but, after repairswere made, they took the start. In the race tragedy struck when RolfStommelen抯 car suffered a wing failure, badly injuring the driver andkilling four bystanders. The race was stopped and Formula 1 neverreturned.
The Grand Prix continued to be held at Jarama until 1981, the last race providing a memorable victory for the great Gilles Villeneuve. A five year absence followed before the 1986 event, staged at the new Jerez circuit. In an exciting race Ayrton Sennajust held off Nigel Mansell for the win. The 1990 event was the sceneof an amazing escape for Irish driver Martin Donnelly who survived apractice crash despite being ejected from his Lotus.
1991 brought another change of venue, this time to the Circuit deCatalunya. The track has retained its place on the Formula 1 calendarever since. Qualifying has proved to be vital with overtaking beingdifficult. Races are often decided by pit-stop strategy.
After their dominant performance in Bahrain Ferrari enter theweekend as strong favourites. Meanwhile, an interesting battle isdeveloping between McLaren and BMW Sauber. The potency of the BMW抯 isreflected in the team抯 position at the head of the Constructor抯Championship. They may well emerge as Ferrari抯 closest challengers.McLaren抯 Lewis Hamilton will be desperate to make amends for his errorlast time out when he drove into Fernando Alonso抯 Renault. Histeam-mate Heikki Kovaleinen will be keen to continue his strong startto the season.
