Figo may stay at Inter
Veteran Portugal winger Luis Figo may backtrack on his decision to quit Internazionale for Saudi Arabia after helping them to the Serie A title.
The 34-year-old had claimed there was no going back on his surprise pre-contract agreement with Al Ittihad, due to be completed this summer, but pressure from Inter president Massimo Moratti may be forcing a re-think.
"The idea is still the same," Figo told Gazzeta dello Sport. "But I am still enjoying myself here and Moratti is insistent.
"We will see."
Figo has featured in 30 of his club's 36 league games so far this season. Inter won Serie A with five games remaining after dominating the Italian championship in the absence of Juventus, relegated to Serie B for match fixing.
Moratti wants Crespo stay
Chelsea will face a fight to get on-loan striker Hernan Crespo back from Internazionale for next season after Nerazzurri president Massimo Moratti confirmed he would prefer to see the Argentinian goal ace prolong his stay in Milan.
Crespo signed for the Italian champions on a year-long loan deal last summer, and since his arrival at the Giuseppe Meazza, the 31-year-old has netted 14 goals, helping Inter to claim their first title won on the pitch since 1989.
The Argentina international netted a super hat-trick in the weekend's thrilling 4-3 victory over Lazio and that kind of form has won the admiration of Moratti, who would love to see Crespo stay.
"Crespo back to Chelsea? I don't know," Moratti said. "At the moment he's in great condition. He's doing good things and we hope he can stay."
Crespo himself has made no secret of his desire to stay in Italy, where he has already enjoyed successful periods with Milan, Lazio and Parma.
He said: "Chelsea know what my thoughts are, so should they really want me back, there will have to be to discussions."

Further injury setback for Vieira
After a season already blighted by injury, Internazionale midfielder Patrick Vieira suffered a further setback during the Coppa Italia final on Thursday.
The France international sustained a knee injury in a collision with Roma's Rodrigo Taddei and now faces the possibility of spending the remainder of the season on the sidelines.
The former Arsenal man lasted just 26 minutes before hobbling off as Inter lost their grip on the trophy to Roma. He will definitely miss Inter's next outing against Atalanta and could even have to sit out the final game of the season with Torino.
But perhaps of more significance, Vieira could miss France's Euro 2008 qualifiers against Ukraine and Georgia at the beginning of next month.
Vieira has struggled for fitness this season, and had only recently returned to the Inter side after months on the sidelines with a troublesome hamstring problem.

Inter Tracking Nasri And Anderson
Inter are chasing promising youngsters Samir Nasri and Luis Anderson.
The Black and Blue striped Serie A giants are awaiting a final decision from Luis Figo, who has just called off his Arabian adventure with All-Ittihad.
However, it is as yet unclear whether Figo would be willing to serve the Nerazzuri for another year.
It is understood that the Inter number 7 is deciding between another yeaar in Italy and a return to Sporting Lisbon. Retirement from football is another option he is supposedly unwilling to rule out.
Inter officials and fans are confident that Luis Figo will renew his contract for another year with the Nerazzurri, and the idea now is to net a young talented playmaker who can be his under-study.
The players that have been mentioned are Marseille抯 Samir Nasri, who is considered by many as the heir of Zinedine Zidane, and Porto抯 Anderson, who has been starring with the Brazil youth teams.
The thinking is that if Inter can manage to net either of those players, then there will be a perfect balance between the experience and charisma on one side, and enthusiasm and growing talent on the other, as they prepare for their centenary year. |

Cesar Pens New Inter Deal
Inter Milan and goalkeeper Julio Cesar have decided to sign a new five year contract.
Cesar had been demanding a show of faith following repeated reports linking Inter Milan with Buffon, and this move is perhaps confirmation that the Nerazzurri have decided to stick with the Brazilian.
The new contract sees the 27-year-old tied to the club until 2012.
Revealed the club through a statement:
"Inter announce that they have extended the contract of goalkeeper Julio Cesar until June 30, 2012."
"The contract was registered at the Italian Football League抯 offices this afternoon."
It is believed, however, that the move has a lot to do with Buffon indicating that he is likely to stay on with the Turin giants. He had said only yesterday that his chances of staying had risen to 75%.
Cesar has impressed at Inter this season, having turned in consistent displays after a mixed first season. He has beaten Toldo to become Mancini's first choice goalkeeper, and it looks like he will enjoy that status for a while now. |
