Campbell ready to accept offer from Man United

Sol Campbell is waiting to hear if he will receive an official SOS fromManchester United to ease Sir Alex Ferguson's plague of defensiveinjuries.

Reports in the British press on Wednesday claimed that Campbell hadbeen invited to train with the United team to assess his fitness aheadof the New Year, and Ferguson could then offer him a six-month contractuntil the end of the season.

However, Campbell has revealed that there has not yet been any approachfrom the Red Devils but he would be happy to train with the PremerLeague champions after spending several weeks with former club Arsenal.

Campbell told ESPN Soccernet: "I have heard nothingofficially from Manchester United, but there have been suggestions andof course, it would be a great move for me, if it happens. I shall justhave to wait and see if a call comes through the right channels.

"Ofcourse I would love to play for Manchester United, but I am notcounting any chickens, just waiting to see what happens. I am trainingas usual at Arsenal, and would go to train at Manchester United if Iwas asked."

With a host of defenders, including Rio Ferdinand, John O'Shea, Jonny Evans and Wes Brown, all sidelined, Sir Alex could be interested in bringing in the former England defender on a short-term contract.
