Motor Racing: Heat is on JJ
By LIM TEIK HUAT
| Catch the leader: Jazeman Jaafar trails team- mate and pole-sitter Jack Lemvard of Thailand at the start of a race in the fourth leg of the BMW Asia Series over the weekend
|
PETALING JAYA: Having made winning podium spots in the Formula BMW Asia Series look like a piece of cake thus far, young Malaysian Jazeman Jaafar is getting a taste of the cut-throat competitive level of motorsports early.
CIMB Team Qi-Meritus driver Jazeman has been thrown into the spotlight not only for his driving abilities as he regains the lead in the championship standings but also because of allegations by his rivals on how he goes about doing his business.
A questionable decision to nullify a win in the third leg of the Series in Indonesia in July is a case in point. The engine performance of his car was found to have been 揵eyond the performance boundaries |

Fariqe gets double win in Asian Touring Car Series
PETALING JAYA: Fariqe Hairuman chalked a double win for the Petronas Syntium Team in the third leg of the Asian Touring Car Series at the Chengdu Goldenport Racing Circuit in China over the weekend.
Having recovered from mechanical issues suffered at the previous round in Indonesia in July, the 24-year-old Malaysian dominated the proceedings in Race 5 on Saturday. Farique, in a BMW 320i, started from pole position and won the race in 30:15.728.
With the starting grids reversed for Race 6 on Sunday, Fariqe had to start from seventh position.
The early morning downpour made the conditions even more difficult to predict but the team's strategy to opt for slick tyres paid off when Fariqe began making his way through the field to claim victory in 28:51.009.
Fariqe, who has won four of the six races this season, leads the championship standings on 70 points, four more than Masaki Kano of Japan.

Stoner guns for MotoGP crown in Japan
TOKYO: Ducati's Casey Stoner wants to wrap up his first MotoGP world title in style with victory at the Japanese Grand Prix this weekend.
The baby-faced Australian is aiming to become his country's first champion since Mick Doohan won the last of his five 500cc crowns in 1998 at Sunday's race in Motegi.
Italy's Valentino Rossi kept his title hopes alive, mathematically at least, by winning in Portugal last week but he still trails Stoner by 76 points with just four races left.
Stoner has pledged to simplify the possible permutations involved by claiming his ninth victory in 15 races, which would make him the second youngest premier-class champion ever.
揑 really want to win a few more races before the end of the season, |
