SRK, Rani and Ash in a comic book

After winning the hearts of millions, SRK, Rani and Ash will be charming their audience through a new medium. Namely, a comic book. Titled Bollywood, the comic is being created by Illustrated Comics, based in Singapore. The format will be similar to Amar Chitra Katha and Superman, which many have grown up reading.

The purpose was to have entertainment, Bollywood-style, through a different medium. It will be a love triangle sans the song and dance sequences. The King Khan will be seen playing a college student who has a group of Internet friends. His girlfriend is an Indian Sports star. The glamour quotient will be provided by Aishwarya Rai and Rani Mukherjee.

If you抮e expecting SRK, to display any super powers, you are mistaken. The comic is typical Bollywood masala potboiler! Except that this time it抯 in a comic book. Along with fans in India, the publishers also hope to target the NRI population, amongst whom Bollywood is a craze. They believe that the youth will be able to identify with the situations in the comic.

Manisha Koirala agrees to act in film on Indian earthquake

Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala has agreed to play the lead role in a new film in which first-time director Saurabh Sengupta pays tribute to veteran lyricist and scriptwriter Gulzar, a newspaper reported Wednesday.

The film, ``Marham,'' or ``Balm,'' will examine the relationship between a man and a woman set against the backdrop of the 2001 devastating earthquake in western India that killed more than 13,000 people, the DNA newspaper said. Koirala plays a socialite opposite Kay Kay Menon, who is cast as a quake victim.

``It is a purely emotion-based story, focusing on undefined relationships,'' the report quoted Sengupta as saying. ``It is about two people who don't know whether their relationship is love or friendship, but something is keeping them connected.''

The characters, Sengupta said, will stand out and make an impact as much as the story.Sengupta and Koirala could not be independently reached for comments.

The report didn't say why Sengupta wanted to make the movie a tribute to Gulzar, one of India's most famous scriptwriters and lyricists with a career spanning decades. One of his latest songs _ ``Kajra Re'' or ``Kohl-lined Eyes'' _ was judged the best lyrics for 2005 by several rating groups.

John Abraham says he's just a middle-class guy

Bollywood heartthrob John Abraham is a box-office star, but he cares little for money and clings to the values passed on by his middle-class parents, a report said Sunday.

Abraham, 32, made his debut in Indian films three years ago. His first box office hit was "The Body," followed by "Dhoom," in which he led a gang of bikers who robbed Bombay's wealthy businessmen.

"Money is not my motivation at all," Abraham was quoted as saying by The Times of India newspaper. "I know that I can have three meals a day. Even if I earn a lot more, I can't have 10 meals a day, right?"

Abraham said his attitudes were shaped by his Syrian Christian father, an architect, and Iranian mother, a basketball teacher, who taught him integrity, self-respect and honesty.

"My dad still takes the bus. I offered to buy my mother a car and she said, 'We don't need your money, I have always traveled by train and I still will'," he said. "And I too can say with a clear conscience that I've never stood at any director's doorstep and begged or lobbied for work."

Sushmita's Land Cruiser in the net

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has seized Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen's imported luxury car Land Cruiser and asked her to pay Rs 20 lakh as customs duty.

The Land Cruiser was imported in March last year with accompanying documents allegedly stating its date of manufacture as December 1998 while the actual date of manufacture was 2003, DRI sources said.

"Therefore, the value of the vehicle was declared very less with a customs duty of Rs 9 lakh being paid on the vehicle. The importer and the broker miscleared the chassis number of the vehicle that has a market value of Rs 56 lakh," the sources said adding the duty payable was actually Rs 20 lakh.

"Also the vehicle was brought into the country under the transfer of residence (TR) scheme that mandates that the vehicle may not be sold before two years of personal use by the importer," the sources said.

DRI sources said, Sen purchased the vehicle through dealer Haren Choksi in May last year.

"We sought original manufacturing information from the manufacturer Toyota to ascertain the actual date of manufacture and conduct scrutiny of the vehicle and Toyota confirmed that it was manufactured in 2003," they said.

DRI is also keeping a tab on several such imported cars and is "expected to seize many more such imported vehicles in the near future," the sources added.

Sen was not available for comment.

Abhishek creates static!

Viewers, Amitabh Bachchan included, were perplexed by scrambled signals during Abhishek's Filmfare appearance.

Each time Abhishek Bachchan came on TV during the Filmfare Awards, the screen went blank and one saw static and a message saying no signal. It was very strange.

We got home after the awards and were watching the telecast. Just when Abishek's name was announced for Best Supporting actor, the screen just blanked out," says Amitabh Bachchan.

Miraculously the telecast came on again the second he walked off the stage. Again, just when his act was announced, the screen blanked out and miraculously the telecast revived again after his act.

I thought it was a localised problem on my cable. Later I came to know that it was happening all over the country.

My daughter called from Delhi to complain. Obviously this is much more than a local snag. I don't know what it was. But the TV going off just when Abhishek comes on doesn't sound very right, does it? It's discomforting that technology can let you down.

If someone has done it deliberately, then it's taking rivalry too far. It's extremely petty," commented Amitabh Bachchan.

Aishwarya to miss luncheon in honour of Bush

Aishwarya Rai will not be seen at the luncheon being hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in honour of visiting US President George W Bush at Delhi on Thursday. Special: President Bush in India

Rai's secretary Hari Singh told PTI here on Wednesday night that she was on her way to Brazil when the Ministry of External Affairs tried to get in touch with her .

"We received a phone call from the protocol officer in MEA seeking her presence at the lunch, 40 minutes after she left for Brazil yesterday," Singh said.

"We have informed the Ministry via e-mail that she would not be able to attend the event, Singh said.

Rai is in Brazil to shoot for the sequel to the popular film Dhoom, called Dhoom 2.

MY BUDGET: R Madhavan

What did you think of the budget?   
My first opinion is that the Budget is rather insipid. The FM has given us both good and bad news. He has shown clear signs of reaching 8 per cent growth, but I am not too kicked about duties being slashed on small cars and aerated drinks. This does not affect the aam aadmi.  
  
How will it affect you?   
With the increase of service tax by 2 per cent, we are going to end up paying extra for everything, starting from credit card transactions to restaurant bills.  
  
Will there be any positive effects?   
Allowing increased credits to farmers is a good sign. However, I feel that the government could do much more by standardising distribution and sales networks. The return module for farmers should be standardised for them to reap the actual benefits of a Budget like this.  
  
What would you have liked to see?   
Infrastructure problems like communication networks amd electricity shortages need to be straightened out.  

Aishwarya & Aamir invited to lunch with President Bush!

Even saying 'Hi' to the President of the United States is a big thing to do in life - though not everybody thinks so like actress Suman Ranganathan, but getting an invitation for having a lunch with US President is definitely a matter of pride.
As per latest Bollywood actors Aishwarya Rai and Aamir Khan have been invited for a lunch with President George W Bush on Thursday afternoon at Taj Palace, New Delhi. Other celebrities like industrialists Mukesh Ambani, Sunil Mittal and Ratan Tata are most likely to attend the lunch party.
However Aishwarya Rai, who left for Brazil yesterday didn't know about the invitation. Aishwarya's business manager Hari Singh said today, "I received a call from the office of the Minister of External Affairs, stating that they would like Aishwarya to attend," however couldn't confirm whether Aishwarya will attend the party or not. "It is doubtful because she left for Brazil yesterday. The invite came to us very late," he added.

Hrithik to play 6 characters in Krrish?

One of the biggest movies to release this year is Rakesh Roshan's Krrish. From what we heard, Hrithik is slated to play a whopping six characters. It seems he will play an old man, a young man, a villager and even a trendy urban professional! Although the actor is not revealing much at this point, we're sure we'll find out soon enough!  

Aishwarya regrets missing the lunch

The former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai, has expressed regret over missing the opportunity to meet U.S. President George W. Bush, but thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam for inviting her for the lunch and dinner hosted for the visiting dignitary.

Her business manager Harii Singh, who received the invitation from the External Affairs Ministry on Wednesday, said here on Thursday night that the actor was away in Brazil for a shoot and that she was extremely thankful to the Prime Minister and the President for extending the invitation.

``Aishwarya Rai regrets missing the opportunity to meet Mr. and Mrs. Bush as she is not present in India,'' the manager said, adding he received the invitation around 2.30 p.m., as the star boarded a flight minutes earlier.

Mr. Singh said she was in Rio de Janeiro for the shooting of "Dhoom-2."

GM India ropes in Rani Mukherji, Saif Ali to endorse Chevrolet Aveo

General Motors India said on Wednesday that it has signed on leading Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukherji to endorse its mid-sized sedan Chevrolet Aveo.

"The Chevrolet Aveo is a new generation car with class leading performance, amazing looks and style and great mileage. Hence, we were looking at ambassadors who not only connect emotionally with the audience but also embody the two dimensions of performa nce and aesthetics, substance and style plus class and exuberance," General Motors India President and Managing Director Rajeev Chaba said.

He said the company expected that the two actors would dramatise the superiority of Aveo and bring alive its positioning as "the embodiment of great performance and immaculate aesthetics".

The Aveo, which is expected to take on the Ford Fiesta and Honda City, is primarily aimed at upgraders from the two box as well as additional three box car owners.

The car, built at GM's facility in Gujarat, is powered by 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre 16-valve DOHC petrol engines with standard five-speed manual transmission. - PTI

Don't think, Katrina Kaif is saying that to her boyfriend Salman Khan. Katrina recently said it to a journalist of a renowned English Daily, however in joking mood. Katrina is doing two films with Akshay Kumar - Raj Kanwar's 'Humko Dewaana Kar Gaye' and David Dhawan's 'Welcome' - on asked Katrina whether the age factor reflects on screen while doing romantic scene with a relatively older Akshay, Katrina, in her reply, said to the journalist, "Akshay will kill you when he reads this question." However Katrina doesn't think the age factor should be a problem. She said, "Akshay doesn't look his age which is why directors are casting him with younger actresses. I shared a good rapport with Akshay Kumar and he has helped me immensely. Even though he is a senior actor, he never threw tantrums not was he impatient with me. I am still learning, so I take time in understanding a scene and delivering a shot. I think it is always better to act with a seasoned actor, when you are a beginner."

Madhuri, a stranger in her own house!

At 51st Annual Filmfare Awards night Madhuri Dixit, after a long hibernation, made a sensational comeback on stage; she performed the sizzling 'Devdas' number, however nobody had any problem to recognize Madhuri.

But the same Madhuri treated as a stranger in her own house.
As soon as her performance finished, Madhuri left for her home as her children were waiting then for her to return. Even Madhuri didn't change her dance outfits to reach sooner. But as she entered into the house, much to her surprise, she found that her younger son didn't recognize her. He didn't even go close to her considering her as some stranger. This was due to the heavy make up and the dazzling dance ensemble she had put on. If that wasn't enough, her elder son found her made up look so funny that he started laughing. Says 'Mrs. Nene'. What a strange!
