Slavia Prague (to face Tottenham on Thursday February 14th)

Bundesliga - Time for Vaart to move on - father Eurosport - Thu, 07 Feb 15:30:00 2008
The time is right for Rafael van der Vaart to leave Hamburg, according to the midfielder's father.
The Holland international's current contract with theBundesliga side runs until 2010 and the offer of an extension to thedeal has been rejected.
The Holland international has alreadybeen linked with a wealth of Europe's biggest clubs, including RealMadrid, Valencia, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
And the player's father Ramon believes a summer move is now inevitable simply because his son has out-grown Hamburg.
RamonVan der Vaart told Bild: "There is a proverb in the Netherlands: 'Thereis a time to come and then to go'. We think it will be the right momentto leave the club and to face new challenges. It is the time to go tothe next step. He is ready.
"It is not a decision to leaveHamburg, more a decision to join another club. To put it differently,Rafael's next club won't be a better club but just a bigger one."
WhileVan der Vaart expressed a recent desire to join Serie A giants Juventus- he said that linking up with Alessandro Del Piero in Turin would be adream come true - Ramon would prefer to see a deal done with a team inSpain.
"We all know that Rafael's dream is a move to a Spanishclub like Madrid or Barcelona . But if there are no offers from there,Juve is a similarly big club with an unbelievable history. And my sonwould get to play in the country of the world champions [Italy] and thewinners of the Champions League [Milan]."
Despite Van derVaart wanting out of Hamburg, his father insists there are no grudgesheld against the club he has been with since 2005, claiming that movingthere from Ajax has done him the world of good.
He said:"Moving to Hamburg was the best decision Rafael has made in his life asa professional footballer. I do not know of a better club than Hamburgfor him to have played."
And with Van der Vaart set to starfor Holland at Euro 2008, Ramon believes his son would benefit fromconcluding a deal before the big kick-off at the tournament in Austriaand Switzerland.
He said: "It would be perfect if everythingcould be settled by the time the Euro 2008 tournament gets underway inJune. That way he could play for Holland with a clear head."

Dons quintet to miss Bayern clashMon 11 Feb, 05:45 PM
Aberdeenare facing their biggest European game for more than 20 years but willbe without five players against Bayern Munich on Thursday.Richie Byrne, Richard Foster, Jackie McNamara, Derek Young and Jamie Smith will all miss Thursday's UEFA Cup last-32 clash.
And Jimmy Calderwood's team could be decimated further for the first leg if Barry Nicholson, Zander Diamond and Darren Mackie do not overcome knocks.
Diamond aggravated an ankle problem in Sunday's 5-1 defeat by Celtic while Nicholson sustained a knee injury and Mackie suffered a recurrence of the hamstring strain that has blighted his season.
"We have got big doubts about Nicholson, Diamond and Mackie," Calderwood said.
"But, knowing the character of those three, hopefully they will play."
Byrne, Foster and Smith all miss out with hamstring injuries while Young and McNamara picked up knocks against the Hoops.
The loss of the experience of McNamara and Smith is aparticularly harsh blow as McNamara played in the UEFA Cup final forCeltic in 2003, and Smith grabbed a double in the 4-0 win overCopenhagen last month.
Calderwood told RedTV: "It's obviously five big players butthat means we have still got 21 fit - which has not been the case muchof the time.
"Although they are all big names, it has eased a little bit.
"But that's football, we have just got to get on with it, we have a wonderful game to look forward to."
Teenagers such as Chris Maguire and on-loan pair Josh Walker and Sone Aluko are now in line to play against the tournament favourites.
And Calderwood has urged them to seize their opportunity.
The 52-year-old said: "I remember a long, long time ago makingmy debut for Birmingham and I think my third match was against thegreat Leeds team, Billy Bremner, Johnny Giles, all them boys.
"My fifth game was at Anfield against Liverpool. It was fabulous, you have no fear, you just go and enjoy it - you have nothing whatsoever to lose.
"It stands you in good stead for the rest of your career.
"If these lads are involved I'm sure they will make the most of it."
Aberdeen's young players will face some of the biggest names in world football, including Germany striker Miroslav Klose and Italian World Cup winner Luca Toni, who scored three goals against Scotland in the Euro 2008 qualifiers.
"I think the two lads up front, Klose and Luca Toni, are the big dangers," Calderwood said.
"Mark van Bommel as well, I know him very well from Holland and he will pull the strings in midfield.
"They have got talent all over the park but they are the big, big dangers." |

Bayern Munich Star Oliver Kahn To Miss Dons ClashFeb 14 2008 By Craig Swan
SICK keeper Oliver Kahn plunged Bayern Munich into chaos ahead of tonight's UEFA Cup crunch against Aberdeen.
The German star suffered cabin fever en route to the Granite City and is out of the Pittodrie showdown after returning to his homeland with a mystery illness.
German international Kahn boarded the team flight to Aberdeen's Dyce Airport yesterday morning but soon began to suffer shivers, stomach pain and high temperatures during the journey. The 38-year-old didn't make it off the plane at Dyce and sat on the tarmac for 30 minutes in the charter before making his way straight back home.
Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld instantly sent for reserve-team teenager Thomas Kraft to jet over as Kahn's replacement Michael Rensing is fighting to overcome a back injury sustained while tying his shoelaces.
Astonishingly, should Rensing also fail to make it, 41-year-old goalkeeping coach Bernd Dreher will face the Dons.
Ironically, Kahn's sickness came just days after he criticised team-mates in the wake of a 1-1 draw in the Bundesliga against Werder Bremen.
Hitzfeld said: "Our major weakness right now is we are good enough to create endless chances in any game but constantly draw instead of winning.
"That's because we don't bury those chances and kill teams off.
That's not good enough for me."
Hitzfeld, however, insisted Kahn's absence is purely down to illness. He said: "I am used to surprises and you can always have players pulling out at the last minute. It's a pity because Oliver was in a very good frame of mind.
"However, we have Michael who has played one or two games already this season and I think he is a good replacement.
"I think Rensing will be OK to play. If not, then Dreher will play. I hope Rensing will be fit but you never know. The last time he had a problem with his shoelaces. They got tangled up and he suffered a little injury, so you never know.
"I don't want to go into detail about Kahn but he's flown home and I am sure he will be all right to play on Sunday."
Ironically, as Hitzfeld lamented his No.1 keeper and the loss of Mark van Bommel, Franck Ribery, Willy Sagnol and Daniel van Buyten, Dons counterpart Jimmy Calderwood was given an unexpected lift from his medical team.
Zander Diamond, Barry Nicholson, Andrew Considine and Darren Mackie were declared fit. Jackie McNamara, Jamie Smith, Derek Young, Ricky Foster and Richie Byrne are definitely out but the quartet's return is a mammoth bonus for the boss.
He said: "It's good news. They were the ones in doubt and, luckily enough, they are all fit. It's a massive boost. We understand Bayern have left Sagnol and van Bommel at home but they still have a lot of internationals to come in.
"We're still missing five big players so getting those lads back is a boost. It was always going to be a very difficult game but without nine of your first team it would have been nigh impossible.
Luckily the four lads are fit and that brings everyone up."
