When the entire Magna group (Books Smarts) returned to the suite without Brian, the rest of the candidates were stunned. The members of Net Worth (Street Smarts) couldn't believe that Brian had told Trump that he should be fired. In an interview, Michael said the fact that Brian went home without a second boardroom put everyone on notice - Trump makes the rules and he can break them too.
Danny hoped that a day of rest would help Verna; but Verna said that she still wasn't well. Danny vowed that the team could win even if Verna wasn't up to the next task and had to sit it out. Danny got the group together to rally behind the cause and was sure the rest of the team would be "cool" with the idea. But Erin wasn't cool with it. Erin spoke up and asked what would happen if the team lost while Verna was back at the suite resting? Would Verna volunteer to be fired? Danny seemed caught off guard and the questions hung in the air. Finally, Verna broke the tension and said that she'd been resting all day and still didn't feel well. Therefore, Verna said, she should just go. So, for the second time in as many days, Verna voluntarily packed her bags and left her team. This time though, it was for good. As the other candidates made dinner and new battle plans, Verna headed out of the suite with luggage in tow.
The next day, the remaining candidates met Trump in the middle of Times Square. Trump reminded everyone that he had said this sixteen week job interview would be tough - maybe the toughest thing the candidates had ever done in their lives. Trump said that Verna couldn't hack it and quit. He asked if anyone else wanted to quit - all responded with a resounding "No!" Trump then laid out the next task. The candidates would work with Nestl |

Episode 3
Danny! Oh no, no, no Danny! What happened here my friend? What just happened? The sweetest, funniest and most warm-hearted Apprentice applicant to date~ gone! I'm devastated! The worst part is, I think DT knew it too and didn't even want to fire you, but you really did unfortunately make some mistakes and then brought in the wrong two people. At least bringing in Michael was wrong -- no matter how right it seemed to you at the time. You put DT between a rock and a hard place and you paid the price unfortunately. One must always take the big guy's lead in the boardroom. I even stated in my intro that sometimes you may feel strongly and want to bring one person in, but DT feels another way ~ hint, always take his lead. This was a perfect example of that. I'm so sorry you paid for it. The show won't be the same without you!
For the future and the rest of you, let me reiterate that one must never play with the "exemption" rule, ever! Remember Brad in Season 2? He was quite the opposite of Michael in this case. He worked his rear off and waved his exemption to prove it and look what happened to him. He was brought into the boardroom and canned! It was a devastating blow to our team. And to be honest, I thought what he did was very righteous. I respected it. I personally don't believe in the whole exemption thing and Michael is a perfect example of why. It was abused, but hey, here it is and don't mess with the big guy's rules ~ you'll be sure to pay for it.
Like I've said before, this game is tough. Much tougher than it appears to be from just watching it on TV. There are so many elements, people involved, money, time and pressure. It really is extremely difficult to manage, especially as PM in the beginning with a large team and even larger egos to handle. Every maneuver is crucial before you get into the true rhythm of the game. Once more people get fired and you find your rhythm, just look down that home stretch and let the real race begin. Until then this is all very entertaining for the rest of us.
Verna, what did you do? You made it this far, beat out hundreds of thousands of applicants, got onto the show and you quit? Are you kidding me? I'm speechless. Not even three tasks in! I mean, I know how hard it is, believe me, but that was just weak in my opinion. What were you thinking it was going to be, champagne and caviar every night up in the suite? No way! And in my opinion, if you're going to quit, do it with some gusto. One should walk into the boardroom, stand up directly in front of the big guy himself, point a finger, and say "I quit"! Then walk out of there, have a car service waiting downstairs, (forget the taxi) and leave in style. Now that would be good. But in this case Verna, I'm not a fan of quitters. Good riddance!
Now onto Michael, who I believe was another stand out of the season. What happened to you? You were incredible last week and a completely different person this week. Was it your exemption? Danny? Or maybe it was the fact that you didn't get to hire European super models, (laughing). What was it? Did you lose your motivation? Whatever led to the change in you could quickly lead to your demise. You made the big guy angry. One more wrong step from this point forward and you're cooked. I hate to say this, because you're quite entertaining, but you may be packing your bags pretty darn soon. You just better hope you win next week.
I have to be honest here, Book Smarts, it's just not looking good. Bren and Erin, you stepped up a lot this week and made some great points, but the rest of you are either playing under the radar (like Alex), getting fired, being threatened to be fired or even worse, quitting. C'mon guys, you better pull it together and quick.
Street Smarts, great job, well done! Angie, although I haven't really been able to pinpoint your personality exactly yet, you brought home a nice win. Coffee hot or cold seems like a no-brainer, but I know it wasn't that simple. Great presentation as well with the debate. It was brilliant and you executed the task seamlessly. Kristen, you really regained your credibility after last week's debacle, worked hard and deserved that win. John, one of the strongest players in this game so far, you were as good as ever, keep it up, it's quite inspiring. You really play a great game. Tana, we are getting to see a bit more of you these days and I think that's great. You tell it like it is and always in a charming, salt of the earth type of way. I loved your commentary on Angie, comparing her to a mother on Thanksgiving morning. You say what we at home are thinking. I want to see more of that, it's hysterical. Chris, you stepped up as well, and I'm turning into a believer. You're tough and to the point. Good work. As for Audrey and Craig, you still remain my "under the radar players". Like I've said before, something I'm not a big fan of, but I'm sure it will get you far. We'll see if you keep sliding by with this approach. My guess is you will. It's sneaky, but it works.
Great win and even better reward, Street Smarts. I hope you enjoyed it. There is nothing more inspiring than flying over Manhattan in a luxury helicopter drinking champagne. Absolutely nothing! It is a truly breathtaking experience. I remember how much I enjoyed it last season when we flew out to the Hamptons to visit with Denise Rich. It brought back great memories! Simply incredible!
I'll end here now without half as an entertaining an exit as my boy Danny singing his taxi confessional goodbye. Although it broke my heart, that was the best Danny. I hope we see a comeback from you on a future episode. Until then, you'll surely be missed.
Best of luck to the rest of you!
Most Sincerely,
Your Apprentice Alumna,
Jennifer D. Crisafulli

Who's the REAL Quitter?
There was more than one quitter on the third installment of the Apprentice 3 and for my money Verna was not the worst of the bunch.
Everyone has moments in his or her life when the stress of a situation is just overwhelming and it is tempting to throw in the towel. Certainly in business the temptation is there. There are very few of us, brain surgeons and airline pilots aside, for which quitting has life and death consequences. Most of the time quitting just costs a loss of your own, or, worse, someone else's money and a hit on your reputation. But, I'd much rather someone admit that they are not up to the task and step aside, like Verna, than simply quit trying and coast.
Well, I'm sure you know where I'm going with this ... Michael, Michael, Michael. Here's the deal: you had a huge opportunity to stand above the rest and as they say in the comic books, "use your power for good" but, instead you seemed to sit back and relax. Your entire team, Magna, agreed that you abused your exemption. To me this is far more damaging to your reputation than simply leaving like Verna did. Sure, you survived another round thanks to Mr. Trump playing by the rules and being true to his word, but if you think he didn't notice and put you dead center on his radar screen, you're crazy!
Now for quitter number two: I've got to admit, like my friend on the first Apprentice, Sam, I was kind of rooting for crazy Danny. If for no other reason than to see if he had the kind of brilliant creativity that makes this country great. It's a clich |

WE HAVE LIFT OFF
Under the sound of whirring blades, Net Worth filed onto the helipad and into the enormous helicopter. As the chopper door closed, Chris' joyous proclamation could be heard above everything else: "And we have drinks and everything!" Exuberant screams and laughter filled the air as the helicopter lifted off and began its tour above Manhattan.
In an interview, Chris shed light on the importance of the high school grads' spirit: "Without a doubt, the key to success for Net Worth Corporation is everyone keeping a smile on their face, and having fun." And have fun they did, as they popped champagne corks and raised glasses in honor of each other. "Let's have a toast to Net Worth!" Angie announced.
THE LOVE OF TRUMP
With their faces pressed against the windows to take in the inspiring vistas, the celebratory crew took time to pick out their favorite landmarks. "Alright, you guys gotta look for Trump Tower. It's supposed to be right around here," Chris said. Craig pointed out the Empire State Building, and Tana could be heard shouting, "Oh my god! It's gorgeous!" As the flight went on, they continued to marvel at the beautiful views.
In an interview, Chris commented on the strength of the high school grads: "We've conquered over a team that has a collegiate education. And in the eyes of the majority of the population, it would appear that they should be more promising. And the fact is, they're not."
One more toast was in order from Angie, "Team, thank you. We did a great job!" As Net Worth raised their glasses, John chimed in with a telling coda: "For the love of Trump!"

Lesson Learned
Utilizing Focus Groups
Before a company invests time, money and effort into a new product or service it should determine interest from potential customers. Focus groups can help do this. By bringing together a small group of customers or potential customers, companies can gather pertinent data not attainable through surveys or other forms of market research. Focus groups are exploratory in nature and are intended to help a company more clearly define additional research activities and direction.
American Management Association offers the following tips on running a successful focus group:
# Create an environment conducive to discussion. Set up a room where participants will be at ease and feel free to talk. You want a quiet meeting space. If you want feedback on a prospective new product, you may want to hold the focus group at a third party抯 location so input isn抰 biased by information about your company.
# Select an objective facilitator. Members of the team may not be the best individuals to run the meeting. Since they helped to conceive the product or service, they may be biased. A facilitator should be a good listener, nonjudgmental or intimidating, and able to elicit responses from participants and encourage them to elaborate on their thoughts and ideas.
# Promote a stimulating discussion. You are seeking a variety of opinions, and a group setting will encourage give-and-take. Props or prototypes of products, advertisements or other material often help trigger in-depth responses.
# Invite those whose opinions matter. If you have a new product idea, invite those customers for whom the product is intended. If you have a change in process under consideration, involve those whose support would be critical to its successful implementation. The group shouldn抰 exceed ten to twelve participants.
# Set a time frame for the meeting. Most focus groups shouldn抰 last more than two hours. But the meeting should be long enough to allow all of the people to participate. If the discussion is on a roll and you are getting lots of valuable ideas, you and participants may want to keep it going.
# Record responses. It抯 easy to forget what was said. It is also possible to let your own opinions distort what you think you heard. Have someone take notes, or record the discussion and have a transcription for post-meeting review. If you record the session, however, it is a legal requirement that the participants are aware that they are being recorded.
# Elicit written feedback, too. You want the opinions of all of the participants. Simply asking respondents to write down their initial thoughts before discussions begin ensures that you get input from all participants and captures the full range of ideas.
# Thank participants. At the end of the session, tell the participants that you appreciate their involvement. Many focus groups include a meal at the facility. Some organizations pay participants a nominal fee.
# Use the focus group data to refine your direction. Companies shouldn抰 prematurely draw broad conclusions from focus groups梩hey only provide general guidance. Use what you抳e learned from the session as a starting-off point to continue your market research.
