Bali ppl treat u like a king huh? for sure u can't forget the natural hospitality of her people.
Not like a king lah Shahgti. But more like a tourist friend.
But I have seen one tourist being treated like a king at Kuta beach. He sat on a bench, surrounded by Balinese and being supplied with cigaratte and drink. I guess it is safe there coz I don't think Balinese steal (was my biggest concern with Indonesians but it appears that Balinese people are an exception). |

apa ada kat sukawati tu??i'm going to bali this end of may........antara tmpt2 yg we all akan pg adalah:-
1) celuk village- gold n silver mines
2) ubud-traditional mkt
3)kuta- art mkt n beach
4) tanah lot - sunset tour
5) kitamani-sightseeing
dlm package tu takde sukawati...apa beza sukawati n ubud tu?
Case Study 1:
Souvenir: Kucing kayu (kecil, 4 ekor)
Tempat: Kuta Art Market
Harga Asal: 40,000
Harga Terakhir Selepas Tawar-Menawar: 10,000
Diskaun: 75%
Waktu: Tengahari, ~11.00 am.
Tempat: Tanah Lot
Harga Asal: 40,000
Harga Terakhir Selepas Tawar-Menawar: 15,000
Diskaun: 62.5%
Waktu: Malam, ~7.15pm.
Tempat: Pasar Sukawati
Harga Asal: ?
Harga Terakhir Selepas Tawar-Menawar: ?
Diskaun: ?
Waktu: ?
(Bali sama time zone dengan Sabah & Sarawak. Jadi masa utk mengetahui masa relatif di Semenanjung, tambah 1 jam. Sunset di Bali adalah pada pukul 6.15 pm)
Nota:
Case Study 2:
Souvenir: Baju Putih T-Shirt Tanpa Kolar Bali
Deskripsi: Saiz XL (tapi bukan utk saya)
Tempat: Kuta Art Market
Harga Asal: 40,000
Harga Terakhir Selepas Tawar-Menawar: 17,500 (Kedai 1); 15,000 (Kedai 2)
Diskaun: 56.25%, 62.5%
Waktu: Tengahari, ~11.00 am.
Tempat: Kintamani
Deskripsi: Saiz Tidak Diketahui
Harga Asal: 50,000 sehelai
Harga Terakhir Selepas Ditawarkan: 50,000 lima helai (Penjual 1 di hadapan Restoran Maharaja - restoran halal Muslim, hidangan buffet), 50,000 enam helai (Penjual 2 ketika berhenti utk mengambil gambar pemandangan Tasik Batur)
Diskaun: 80%, 83.34%
Waktu: Tengahari, ~2.00 pm.
Tempat: Pasar Sukawati
Harga Asal: ?
Harga Selepas Tawar-Menawar: ?
Diskaun: ?
Waktu: ?
Nota:

I think it should be OK to bring your kids along with you. But I dont think you would want to stay in Kuta. I stayed at Febri's Hotel and Spa, paid 325,000 without breakfast for a Superior room. It is a spanking new hotel in Jalan Kartika Plaza, Tuban, south of Kuta. They have two types of rooms i.e. Superior (49) and Family Deluxe (20). If your package does not restrict you from choosing any hotel to stay, then Febri's is probably a good choice for your family. I've seen at least a couple of family staying there.
Analysis.
Pros.
1. Spanking new hotel
2. Clean, have hot and cold water
3. The biggest family hotel in Bali
4. The biggest family room size in Bali
5. Near to Discovery Mall - a new and the biggest shopping complex in Bali - source of halal groceries and foods.
6. Transportation is not a problem. There are many taxis passing the Jalan Kartika Plaza and many supirs readily awaiting for you in front of the hotel.
3. & 4.: Source: http://www.balidiscovery.com/hotels/hotel.asp?Id=412
Cons.
1. Not in a walking distance to Kuta (My guess is around 1km to Hard Rock Cafe)
2. More expensive rate of everything compared Kuta as Tuban is slighlty an upper class area. The phone call rate is Rp10,000/minute to Malaysia. Could not find cheap spa (Shah's Legian was 105,000) and massage in Tuban or perhaps I didnt have much time to explore the place beyond Discovery Mall. Shahgti, where did you got that Rp45,000 full body massage in Jalan Kartika?
3. No coffee or tea provided in the room, unlike what you'll get in standard hotels in Malaysia.
4. Room is quite small.
5. Nothing impressive about the bathroom except it is new and clean.
6. No shampoo and soap. Just a multipurpose soap/shampoo liquid.
7. Only one power point to charge your batteries. Bewarned about this if you want to bring more than one electronic items.
8. When requested for iron, only the iron arrived. The board never did, so had to be creative with their make-up seat.
9. Called the front desk at ~10.00pm but was told that the technician had already gone home. Should not they be available 24/7?
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
My experience there does not suggest anything that Bali is not a suitable place for family. However, your kids might not be too comfortable with many dogs walking on Bali streets. I believe dogs make the next biggest population in Bali after humans. I was told by my supir that Balinese keep at least one dog in each house. It should be OK becoz they are not aggresive nor intrusive. Unlike stray cats in this country, they never beg for foods and never made any attempt to make physical contact with me. In a way, they kind of respect humans as long as we maintain our respect to them.
Bali is a safe place when it come to the locals. I never encountered wtih any attempt to steal my wallet or other belongings. However, be prepared with solicitations from the locals to buy their goods/services like shirts and transportation at popular tourist spots like Kintamani, Kuta beach and along the Jalan Kartika Plaza (if you stay in Tuban). As Balinese are polite and friendly people, do not afraid of any threats or physical violences that might come from them. However, do exercise caution towards drunken Aussies. <--Cubaan utk memburukkan warga Australia. Tak pernah jumpa la sebenarnya sebab malam2 lepak kat hotel. Hehe.
Be wary with the monkeys at Uluwatu Temple though coz I was warned that they might steal your belongings including spectacles and cameras. |

Suggestions/Ideas/Tips.
1. Get a supir. Call their handphones directly, dont go through any third party or agent to get their service. They are at your disposal until you wish to retire for the day. Ask them a lot of questions whenever you see interesting places or occasions. A trip to Bali is not complete without appreciating their unique culture.
2. Kecak dance at Uluwatu Temple is a fantastic art performance. Read the phamplet to fully understand the story before the show started, otherwise you wont do it justice. Pray that it is not raining so that it could be performed outdoor with the majestic sunset background & breezy sea wind. (I was unlucky coz it was raining )
3. Use Bluebird taxis for a consistent metered rate.
4. Should you wish to get halal foods, ask your supir to take you to Padang food stalls. I had my dinners at restaurants called ACC Minang one at Tuban and the other was at Kuta.
5. KFC is halal but it does not suits my taste buds. The chilli sauce tasted different and the Pepsi drink tasted dull. There is no bread, mashmallow and coleslaw in the meal set but replaced with rice instead.
6. Have your meal at Pizza Hut, Discovery Mall. One complete set of small pizza (for one person, 4 slices), ginger breads (2 pcs/person) and a carbonated drink costs only Rp13,000 (~RM5.20) per person. You wont get anything close like this in Malaysia.
7. As Shah suggested, always negotiated an items until 70% of the initial price. But this wont work in established shops like those that offer services like spa. Tried with failure at Aneka Spa, negotiated down only to 30%. (This is where I rudely walked away):p
Itu je idea2 setakat ni.

To qualify my analysis on Febri's Spa and Hotel.
For Cons, items #3-#7, this is true for Superior Room. the situation may be different for Family Deluxe room. Munshi Abdullah can you update us on this? |

Lepas tu jumpa Spa Semara dkt Kuta. Paling murah yg dapat cari utk trip ni - Masa tak mengizinkan. Ada pelbagai pakej bermula daripada Rp250,000 hingga ke Rp400,000. Ambil Pakej B Rp300,000 (negotiated to Rp275,000) mengandungi:
-Welcome drink & aromatic towel
-Foot bath & body wash
-One hour full body massage
-Body scrub
-Body feeling <--tak pasti apa ni, peeling kot?
-Fresh flower bath
-Sauna, whirpool, swimming pool
-Warm ginger tea.
Maybe next time boleh tgk tempat Kartika Spa & Saloon tu. |

Kartika Spa & Saloon not popular (sebab tu murah). Bali Ratu tengok buildingnya pun dah boleh agak harga. siap ada staf tercegat kat tepi jalan ajak tourist masuk. |

Hehehe. True true. |

Bali adalah unik kerana budayanya. Setiap hari setiap premis kedai (dan rasanya rumah sekali) akan melakukan offering utk tuhan mereka. Even dekat airport dan hotel2 moden sekali pun dia ada buat offering. Ini daily small offering. Monthly dgn annual offerings lain pulak |

Aku tanya seorang cewek kat situ dia cakap masyarakat Bali beragama Hindu. Tapi Hindu yg diamalkan unik sedikit kerana mempunyai elemen Buddhism dan penyembahan nenek moyang dan alam semulajadi. Sebab tu banyak terdapat patung kepala Buddha diukir dan dijual di kedai2 walaupun diorang beragama Hindu. |

Bali mmg sweet sangat.
Whoa you sewa motor sampai 7 jam ke sana? |

Hehe. Probably not. Kat Bali ada beratus ribu Nyoman.
OK cerita dia camni. Masyarakat Bali pakai sistem kasta. Ada 4 kasta iaitu:
1. Brahmana
2. Kesatria
3. Wesia
4. Sudra
Utk golongan Sudra, ada cara mereka namakan anak iaitu:
1. Wayan - utk anak yang pertama
2. Made - utk anak yang kedua
3. Nyoman - utk anak yang ketiga
4. Ketut - utk anak yang keempat
5. Wayan - utk anak yang kelima
6. Dan seterusnya.
Jadi kalau you pergi pasar dan jerit nama Nyoman, mungkin berpuluh2 orang akan pandang
