Taking enough clothes to Germany Coleen?
She's never been one to travel light. And Coleen McLoughlin lived up to her reputation when she arrived in Germany with piles of luggage ahead of England's opening game against Paraguay tomorrow.
Dressed in blue jeans, a summery brown top and large, dark sunglasses, Wayne Rooney's fiancee looked as if she'd packed enough clothes for a couple of months as she wheeled her suitcases and designer handbag out of the airport.
Maybe she'd brought along a few empty cases to fill with all the new clothes she's sure to buy during her stay in the luxurious spa town of Baden Baden.
Coleen, 20, arrived at Frankfurt airport with Steven Gerrard's fiancee Alex Curran, 23, and a small party of friends and family, including Coleen's mum Colette.
Alex Curran, dressed in blue jeans, a white top and sunglasses, brought her two-year-old daughter Lilly-Ella.
She wheeled an empty blue pram out of the airport while a friend carried the baby.
The women were then driven south towards the England wives' hotel in Baden Baden, close to the team's training camp.
Gary Neville's wife Emma Hadfield was the first to arrive at the sumptuous 5-star Brenner-Park Hotel this afternoon. Relatives of Aaron Lennon also checked in.
The hotel is providing for the wives' every need including private spas, shopping trips and has even reportedly bought in a special supply of fake tan.
Personal assistant
A personal assistant has been hired to help the wives with any shopping or sightseeing needs. Earlier today, bouquets of red and white roses topped by England flags arrived at the hotel, one for each room being stayed in by the England players' partners.
The Cross of St George is also being flown over the building where a suite costs 1,375 euros (?943).
The wives have booked in for a month, apparently confident that the team will reach the latter stages of the tournament.
Hotel director Frank Marrenbach said he would be supporting England during the wives' stay.
"We're delighted to have them here, it brings flair to the hotel," he said.
"I will be supporting England and it's very important the England team do well because I want our guests to be happy.
"But if England play against us, you will have to forgive me, I will cross my fingers for Germany.
"There are many things for them to do here, we have prepared things and they have that in their rooms.
"We also have someone, a personal assistant, for the month and she will work alongside them."
There is also a children's club for the players' children.
"I think they will like the town," said Mr Marrenbach.
"It's perfectly safe and absolutely clean."
Baden Baden is home to Germany's largest concentration of millionaires and will be a home-from-home for the footballers' wives.
It boasts some of the most stylish and expensive shops in the country, including designer stores Armani, Versace, Prada and Chanel, where retailers are salivating at the thought of the wives going on an infamous spending spree. |

WAGs ?60,000 shopping spree boosts sleepy town
Locked in a hotel miles from anywhere, the England players are purposely kept away from their other halves to help concentrate their minds.
It is probably just as well.
If they knew what their loved ones were up to, they may be put off their stride for the game against Sweden.
For while their men earn a hefty crust, the WAGs - as the wives and girlfriends are now known - are burning a hole in their platinum credit cards.
In just one hour in the genteel German spa town of Baden Baden, teeming with beautiful boutiques, six of the women blew ?57,000 on clothes and shoes.
The figure is more than most people could hope to earn in a year but for the partners of millionaire professional footballers, it's just pocket money.
In ten minutes alone, four of the WAGs apparently parted company with over ?3,000 on shoes and t-shirts.
And the town's canny shopkeepers make sure they change their window displays every few days to keep the WAGs' attention.
Every day, the women wander the short walk from their five-star hotel to peruse the shops along the pedestrianised, paved streets.
"The partners of the English footballers come shopping here every day," said Monica Scholz, owner of the town's most exclusive clothes shop which bears her name.
"There are lots of things here for fashionable young women. We sell Prada, Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana and Dior. Wayne Rooney's girlfriend has been in here as has Louise Owen, Michael Owen's wife.
"Emma Hadfield, Gary Neville's fiancee, has also visited. They all buy a few things."
Mrs Scholz declines to reveal exactly how much has been spent in her stylish boutique but she says tellingly: "I hope that England remains for a long time in the tournament."
A few doors down, Ulrika Jung from another clothes shop called Nanou, recalls that Mrs Owen bought herself a ?350 Diane von Furstenberg dress and a necklace to match.
"They are very polite, decent girls. They don't expect to be waited on. They are quite happy just looking around by themselves. They shop like anyone else. They don't buy a lot at once - perhaps a dress and a necklace or jeans and a top.
"To some people it may seem a lot of money but compared to what their husbands earn, it isn't that much at all.
"I heard that on their first day here they spent ?3,000 in ten minutes but that isn't too difficult with a top here and a Dolce and Gabbana bag there.
"But we don't rely just on footballers' wives. Our shop has been here for years and we have lots of regular clients. A lot of wealthy Germans have second homes here in Baden Baden. It is a very beautiful town."
She added that other brands popular with the WAGs were Chloe, Marni and Blumarine. Another few doors down, however, another boutique had not seen hide nor hair of the WAGs.
"They go to Monica Scholz," explained the assistant matter-of-factly. "We don't sell Gucci and Prada here."
Yesterday fitness trainer Carly Zucker, the 23-year-old girlfriend of Joe Cole, and Michael Carrick's girlfriend Lisa Roughead, 24, popped into a franchise of Wolford, a classy Austrian lingerie and clothes brand.
Saleswoman Nicole Rahner said the girls each bought a ?160 t-shirt and ?60 skin-tight top.
"They told me they loved Baden Baden because it was small enough to walk round and they loved the shops here," she said.
After their trip to the boutique, the women met up with some fellow WAGS for a spot of lunch at Le Bistro restaurant just off the town's main square.
Earlier Elen Rives, the 28-year-old fiancee of Frank Lampard, took a trip to the local supermarket and stopped up on bags of groceries.
Her nanny carried most of them back to the hotel while Spanish-born Miss Rives, stunning in a blue floral halter-neck sundress and red kitten heels, pushed her daughter Luna in a designer buggy.
The men can breathe a sigh of relief today.
Their partners won't have time to shop as they are being be flown to Cologne so they can watch their men in action. |

Coleen flies home for emergency...hair extensions
For most people, getting their hair cut involves a quick trip down the road to the nearest salon. But when Coleen McLoughlin decided she fancied a change in colour, the local hairdresser's clearly wouldn't do.
Instead Wayne Rooney's fiancee chose to fly 900 miles across Europe, from the German town where England are preparing for the World Cup to her home town of Liverpool.
Yesterday she admitted that last week she flew from the 'wives and girlfriends' camp in Baden-Baden for a business meeting and to get her coloured hair extensions changed.
'Before I left for Germany I had copper and blonde hair extensions put in. I liked them at first, but after a while I decided I preferred my usual look,' she wrote in her magazine column.
'I had to fly back to the UK just for the day for a business meeting, so while I was there I had my original colour put back in. I feel much better now.'
It had been rumoured last week, when Miss McLoughlin, 20, made the trip, that it was to have her hair done.
But her embarrassed aides initially issued a furious denial that Wayne Rooney's fiancee had been to the hairdressers on her return to Britain, branding the story 'nonsense'.
Environmental groups yesterday blasted her actions and said short haul air flights cause a huge amount of damage.
'Like a lot of people who go on short haul air flights, Coleen is probably unaware of the environmental damage that she is doing,' said Richard Dyer, an aviation campaigner for Friends of the Earth. 'These sorts of trips - or perhaps we should call them hair-miles - are by far the most polluting form of air travel.'
One single short-haul flight produces roughly the same amount of the global warming gas as three months worth of driving a 1.4 litre car.
Her return flight would have emitted, on average, 0.22 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Miss McLoughlin has already developed an unenviable reputation for splashing out on the latest in designer fashions.
And arriving at the airport last week her amount of luggage dwarfed that of the other wives or girlfriends by some considerable distance.
But writing in her column, she said: 'I had to take tons of luggage to Germany as I wasn't sure what I'd need.'
She has already hit the Baden-Baden shops with gusto, splashing out ?300 on two pairs of designer heels and two Dolce and Gabbana blouses in the space of just 10 minutes.
However she hit back saying that she hadn't done 'much shopping' yet and preferred lounging by the pool sunbathing.
She said: 'I'm treating this trip as a holiday, so I'm enjoying relaxing by the pool, and being able to sit outside and soak up the sun.' |
