I beg to differ. It is certainly better. It can track, target and shoot 360 degrees out. It does not need to face you to shoot especially with lock on after launch missiles. People keep forgetting ...

The UUV can carry a variety of payloads. Including warheads. That`s the beauty of operating UUV in shallow waters. It can hunt and kill submarines.

Singapore, Feb 6 (AP) Australia's air force said today that one of its F-111 jets made an emergency landing earlier this week during an aerial display at the Singapore Air show and will not participate in further performances.

The F-111's aircrew radioed a distress call after receiving an engine fire warning just two minutes into its seven-minute performance Thursday, said Royal Australian Air Force Flight Lieutenant Leon Izatt, who was part of a two-man team piloting the jet.

Its crew immediately terminated the flight and made an emergency landing on one of the plane's two engines.

The air show was likely to have been the last for the jet as Australia's air force plans to retire its F-111 fleet in December.

France Orders 53 High-Mobility Vehicles from Hagglunds AB

(Source: French Ministry of Defence; issued Dec. 22, 2009)

(Issued in French only; unofficial translation by defense-aerospace.com)

Defense Minister Hervé Morin announced the order of 53 Véhicules de Haute Mobilité (VHM) for the French Army. It is the first installment of a contract valued at 220 million euros awarded on December 18, 2009 by the Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) to the Swedish company Hägglunds AB, a unit of BAE Systems. In all, France will order 129 VHM. Part of the manufacturing work on the VHM will be subcontracted to the French company Panhard.

VHM is armored tracked vehicle (length 7.6 meters) consisting of separate 2 hulls hinged together by an assembly system enabling it to travel over rough terrain. It has a payload capacity exceeding 5 tonnes. The VHM is being procured in 3 versions: troop carrier, command post and logistical carrier.

The troop carrier version can carry up to 12 combatants, including 11 infantry FELIN equipped with their individual and collective weapons (including missiles, rockets and mortars), radio systems and operational information service in the forces. Depending on the version, each VHM will be fitted with a 12.7mm or 7.62mm machine-gun for self-defense.

The VHM meets the needs of the Army to have a capacity to intervene in difficult terrain (mountainous, hilly, wooded, ...) or very unstable surfaces (snow, sand, swamp ...) and having an amphibious capability. Its exceptional mobility enables it to bypass highway routes that constitute potential tactical traps, and to carry units to areas inaccessible to wheeled vehicles. The VHM offer soldiers embedded protection against a wide range of threats, particularly against small arms ammunition, infantry rocket-launchers (RPGs), mines and IEDs.

An innovative method of support was included in the contract, empowering the industrial prime contractor to deliver the "right spare parts at the right time and right place,” with payments based on the attainment of reliability targets and adjusted to the number of miles actually traveled by vehicles in service.

Three pre-production vehicles will undergo from late 2010 qualification testing in various DGA and Army test centers. Production deliveries are scheduled from 2011 to late 2014, and the vehicles will eventually equip a combined tactical battle group (GTIA) specialized in operations in particularly difficult terrain.

(EDITOR’S NOTE: The vehicles are designated BvS10 Mk II by their manufacturer. It is somewhat ironic that France would order the Viking, albeit with improved armor protection, while the British Army has withdrawn its own Vikings from combat operations and is replacing them with the Warthog, a similar vehicle developed by Singapore Technology Engineering.) ST Engineering's Land Systems Arm Secures Naval Gun Contract from Brazilian Navy

(Source: ST Engineering; issued February 4, 2010)

SINGAPORE --- ST Engineering today announced that its land systems arm, ST Kinetics, has won a contract worth US$20.9m (about S$29.4m) from the Brazilian Navy for the supply of 5 units of 40mm L70 naval gun and an associated Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) package.

The contract was signed between the Brazilian Navy and Allied Ordnance of Singapore (Pte) Ltd (AOS), a wholly owned subsidiary of ST Kinetics. Delivery will begin in the last quarter of 2011 and is expected to be completed by end 2013.

This contract is the second that AOS has received from the Brazilian Navy. Two units of 40mm L70 naval gun with ILS package were ordered in 2007. Delivery of the first gun is currently in progress and will be installed on a Brazilian Navy patrol vessel.
Both contracts were won amidst strong competition from established global players. ST Kinetics' 40mm L70 NADM330 naval gun features a full electric drive aiming system with brushless motors that enable quick and accurate target tracking; battery powered operation that allows immediate and ever-ready activation; and 101 ready-to-fire rounds in a dual compartment magazine that provides immediate selection between two types of ammunition and ample ammunition for engagements without reloading. These class leading features of the gun give it the capability to instantly engage aerial and surface targets simultaneously.

"The Brazilian Navy's second order of ST Kinetics' 40mm L70 naval guns amidst keen competition reflects their confidence in the quality and performance of our solution. We are delighted with this latest order and will ensure that we exceed all expectations of the esteemed Brazilian Navy,” says SEW Chee Jhuen, President, ST Kinetics.

This contract is not expected to ha ve any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST Engineering for the current financial year.

AOS (Allied Ordnance of Singapore (Pte) Ltd) is a wholly owned subsidiary of ST Kinetics. It provides air defence weapon systems and ammunition for land and naval applications. Its capabilities include production, systems integration and maintenance of naval ordnance systems.

ST Kinetics (Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd) is the land systems and specialty vehicles arm of ST Engineering. It delivers integrated land systems, specialty vehicles and their related through life support for defence, homeland security and commercial applications.

Correct Bro. it`s a fancy blog for political influence to win contracts for himself and his friend. We can set up one too and draw our own conclusions with information partly from the internet(and that includes uncredited internet forums) and partly from fiction. He is a telephone engineer. He basically wants the RAAF to keep the F-111(nevermind that these planes are beyond hope) and buy the F-22 so that he could bid for the maintainence contracts.

ST Kinetics CPW submachine gun - Compact Personal Weapon (Singapore)

STK CPW prototye with red dot sight and telescoping butt collapsed

Caliber9x19mm Luger / Parabellum, possible others
Weight1.5 kg
Length (stock closed/open)350 / 500 mm
Barrel length180 mm
Rate of fire900-1100 rounds per minute
Magazine capacity30 rounds
Effective range100 meters
The Compact Personal Weapon (or CPW in short) is a new development of Singaporean company ST Kinetics. CPW follows the current trend for modularity of design, with intent of providing a compact personal defense weapon of about pistol size but of greater effectiveness for military personnel which is normally not issued with rifle of any kind. It is yet to be seen if STK CPW will be produced in any numbers and adopted by any military or security force.
The STK CPW is delayed blowback operated weapon that fires in single shots and in full automatic mode. It is made mostly from impact-resistant polymer, with aluminum alloy receiver. Barrel and bolt can be replaced to change the caliber from standard 9x19 to others (most possible choice being some small-caliber armor piercing round such as 4.6x30 HK or 5.7x28 FN). Of cause, this also will require use of different magazines, which, in turn, may require replacement of the rear part of the grip. The rear (removable) section of the grip and the magazine body are made from translucent polymer for easy check of remaining ammunition supply. Gun features ambidextrous controls, including safety, fire mode selector, bolt catch release and magazine release. It is fitted with telescoped buttstock. Sights are installed using integral Picatinny rail on the top of receiver, with standard being either open sights or red dot. Additional Picatinny rail is provided at the bottom of the gun housing, in front f the trigger guard.

CIS 50MG heavy machine gun (Singapore)

CIS .50 on infantry tripod

[size=-1]images courtesy of Singapore Technologies Kinetics

Caliber .50BMG (12,7x99)
Weigth 30kg gun body + 20 kg infantry tripod
Length 1670 mm
Length of barrel 1141 mm
Feedtwo belts 100 rounds (one from each side of the gun)
Rate of fire 400-600

Recognizing the need to replace the obsolete 12.7mm Browning M2HB machine guns, during the early 1980s the CIS (now Singapore Technologies Kinetics / STK) company began to develop a new heavy machine gun. In this development CIS designers closely followed the path set by the unsuccessful American “Dover Devil GPHMG” programme, and tried to create a modular weapon better suited to modern tactical doctrines and production techniques. It seems that the Singaporean engineers succeeded in this effort, as in 1988 CIS introduced a new 12.7mm machine gun, simply designated “CIS 50MG”. After trials it was adopted by the Singapore armed forces as an infantry and vehicle gun, being installed on armoured vehicles and naval craft. It is also offered for export by its current manufacturer  Singapore Technologies Kinetics. This weapon is especially interesting as it has a dual belt feed system that permits fast and easy change of ammunition “on the fly”, i.e. between standard ball and armor-piercing SLAP – a system more often encountered in modern automatic cannons.
The CIS 50 MG is a gas operated, air cooled, belt-fed weapon. It has a quick-detachable barrel equipped with a carrying handle. The gun is operated using dual gas pistons, located in two gas tubes placed on either side of the barrel. The barrel is locked by means of a rotary bolt with multiple radial lugs that engages the barrel extension, eliminating the need for headspace adjustments. The CIS 50MG utilizes same “constant recoil” system that was previously used in the Ultimax LMG.
The gun is fed using disintegrating steel belts with M15 links, and has two feed units at either side of the receiver. There are two belt feedways mounted movably at either side, so at any given time only one feedway (left or right) is connected to centrally mounted feed sprocket. This permits a faster change of ammunition types, e.g. standard ball and SLAP. Empty cases are ejected downwards.
Firing controls include dual spade grips at the rear of the receiver, with a thumb trigger and a fire selector that permits single shots and automatic fire. Firing is from an open bolt only.
Standard mountings include the US M3 tripod (with special adapter), a proprietary lightweight AA tripod, and a number of vehicle mountings.
Standard sights are of the open type, with the front sight base being attached to each barrel, so a proper zero can be maintained after the barrel replacement. A special sight bracket is provided on the receiver for installation of telescopic or night sights.

Budget 2010: Defence budget largely unchanged

Mon, Feb 22, 2010
AFP

SINGAPORE, which has one of Asia's best-equipped militaries, is planning to spend $11.46 billion on defence this year, government data showed on Monday.

The allocation is up 0.1 per cent from last year, figures from the 2010 budget showed.

Singapore's navy, army and air force will get 10.95 billion dollars to buy and maintain military equipment, for the upkeep of camps and for payment of salaries.

Singapore has a population of 4.99 million people, 3.73 million of them citizens and permanent residents who provide the manpower for its conscription-based armed forces.

Bribes, sex and corrupt cop

Senior Staff Sergeant Ong Thiam Hock

She cultivated the friendship of a police officer and then tempted him with cash and sex in exchange for his tip-offs on anti-vice raids.

Zhong Xiaopin, 36, who operated the Tien Zi Beauty & Spa massage parlour in Block 445 Clementi Avenue 3, handed S$7,000 (RM17,500) in bribes to Senior Staff Sergeant Ong Thiam Hock, 35, between May and July 2008.

During this period, she had sex with the 35-year-old cop on five occasions in hotel rooms in Joo Chiat or in his car at a West Coast Road car park.

She pleaded guilty on Wednesday in a District court and was jailed for 2 1/2 years - the same sentence meted out to Ong last July.

She could have to serve an additional four months for providing a false address on her application to extend her social visit pass in October 2005.

The Iron Dome system (photo : Rafael)
26 Maret 2010
Was Iron Dome Defense System Actually Built for Singapore?

A Paris-based online magazine covering intelligence and security issues this week called Singapore one of the most important customers of Israel's defense industry, laying bare the active, though secret, relationship between Israel and Singapore that began more than 40 years ago - a statement that comes after years in which Israel censored all local articles on the subject.

Intelligence Online, which is published in English on a bimonthly basis, states that the Southeast Asian island state helped finance the Iron Dome system designed by Israel's Rafael Advanced Defense Systems to intercept short-range missiles and rockets, in exchange for which it is supposed to receive several Iron Dome systems to deploy on its territory.

Even more interesting is the possibility the article raises that Iron Dome was designed first and foremost for the benefit of Singapore - not for the protection of Sderot and the southern communities in Israel that suffered from Qassam rocket attacks and mortar fire for seven years and are still suffering (though Iron Dome is not capable of intercepting mortar shells). Israeli media have previously hinted at this, but the Defense Ministry has vehemently denied it.

The suspicions were bolstered by the fact that after the system was developed and one battery had been deployed as an Israel Defense Forces base, it turned out that the Defense Ministry had no budget for additional batteries. In that case, why was there a need to develop a system for which there is no budget and which the IDF does not intend to deploy?

According to Intelligence Online, which focuses on arms transactions between countries and corporations and on appointments of intelligence personnel and their clandestine activity, the Iron Dome transaction is the latest between Israel and Singapore.

The Web site, whose articles are available only to paid subscribers, has thousands of readers, including Israelis.

Iron Dome, which its developers said was tested successfully a few months ago, as Israeli media have previously reported, cost roughly $250 million to develop.

One battery, whose production cost is about $50 million, has already been deployed at a base in the south of the country, but so far has not been readied for operational purposes and has not yet been activated.

The anti-aircraft division of the Israel Air Force, which is responsible for operating Iron Dome, is training teams at a base in the north.

They will be operating the system in Israel, with the aim of intercepting Qassam and Katyusha rockets up to a distance of 40 kilometers.

Vulcan-Phalanx: Cheaper and More Accessible

Intelligence Online also repeats an argument published in recent years in Israel to the effect that if the Defense Ministry had really wanted to protect the residents of the south quickly and cheaply, it could have acquired a cheaper and more accessible defense system than Iron Dome: the batteries of the Vulcan-Phalanx cannon system manufactured by Raytheon.

The land-based version of the batteries, called Centurion, are deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq, where they are used to protect American and NATO forces.

Although Defense Minister Ehud Barak has told Haaretz several times that Israel will acquire the Vulcan-Phalanx system, that has yet to happen.

In other words, the Defense Ministry may have given Rafael a development budget as a way of positioning the project as an Israeli military system that is ostensibly being used by the IDF but is really aimed at improving Israel's chances of selling it to Singapore and other countries.

Small Country, Hostile Population

The cooperation between Israel and Singapore rests on the two small countries' shared sense of being under threat, since both are surrounded by a hostile Muslim population and want advanced weapons systems to maintain a qualitative advantage over their neighbors.

The Intelligence Online article argues that the fight against fundamentalist Islamic terror over the past decade has increased the cooperation between the two countries, as well as their sense of a shared destiny. In recent years, Singapore has confronted threats by Jemaah Islamiyah, a terrorist group that operates in Southeast Asia.

The island state, a neighbor of Indonesia and Malaysia, has arrested dozens of the group's operatives and exposed plans to attack the Israeli, American and Australian embassies, along with ships from those countries. One of Singapore's main sources of income is the Port of Singapore, which claims to be the busiest port in the world.

According to the article, immediately after Singapore declared its independence in 1965 it asked Israel to help it establish an army. IDF officers including Rehavam Ze'evi (who became a right-wing cabinet member assassinated in 2001) and Benjamin Ben-Eliezer (now the industry, trade and labor minister) were sent to Singapore to head large delegations of military advisers, and helped build the army on the model of the IDF. Israeli military representatives have been active since then at the Israeli Embassy in Singapore, which was opened in 1969.

One of the issues the IDF representatives deal with is promoting large arms deals. Transactions mentioned in the article include Singapore's purchase of Barak surface-to-air missiles manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries and Israel's upgrading of fighter planes belonging to Singapore's air force.

In addition, Rafael supplied drones for naval missions and Israel's Elbit Systems supplied its Hermes drone.

Intelligence Online also says there is naval cooperation between the two countries, and notes that the commander of Israel's navy, Admiral Eli Marom, had previously represented Israel in Singapore.

gainst the backdrop of a clear blue sky, the jet zips around at supersonic speed while carrying a impressive load of up to eight air-to-air missiles. Armed with a cutting-edge radar system and an advanced integrated sensor suite, which allows the swift detection and accurate striking of targets, the jet has achieved a formidable combat record of 104 victories to zero losses.

Such are the enviable statistics behind the latest addition to the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) - the F-15SG fighters. The first batch of five fighter aircraft, together with 36 air and ground crew, recently returned from the Mountain Home Air Force Base (MHAFB) in the United States (US), where they had been training to operate and maintain the jets since last May.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean officiated at the inauguration ceremony of 149 Squadron, which will operate the F-15SGs, at Paya Lebar Air Base on 5 Apr.

Mr Teo said that the inauguration signified a major milestone in the RSAF's 3rd Generation transformation journey.

"The F-15SG is a major enhancement to Singapore's air defence capability, and will also play a significant role in the SAF's (Singapore Armed Forces') overall operations. The F-15SG squadron will increase the SAF's ability to deal decisively with future threats and meet our critical operational needs," he added.

Commending the crew on the high level of operational proficiency acquired during their training in US, Mr Teo added: "The systematic manner in which we are operationalising the F-15SGs within this short time frame of just 11 months attests to the RSAF's ability to assimilate new capabilities and integrate them into our orbat."

Commanding Officer of 149 Squadron, Lieutenant-Colonel (LTC) Kelvin Khong, who flew one of the F-15SG aircraft back to Singapore from the US, told cyberpioneer that hard work was a major component that helped the crew get up to speed during their training.

"It wasn't easy because the F-15SG has a lot of capabilities, which also means it has a lot of systems. For many of us, who were previously operating the F-5 and F-16 aircraft, there were a lot of things that we had to learn, such as the more advanced systems on board. It took a lot of studying and hands-on practice on our part," he said.

During the ceremony, Mr Teo also lauded the ground crew for holding their own against the more experienced US Air Force (USAF) when they won the Quarterly MHAFB's Weapons Loading Competition twice.

They completed aircraft preparation, weapons loading inspection and tools checks 21 percent faster than the required time, hence setting a new base record for the fastest weapons loading time.

MINISTRY OF DEFENCE SIGNS CONTRACT
FOR THE ULTIMAX-100 LIGHT MACHINE GUN
Posted on: 07th June 2007, 1515 hours (Time is GMT +8 hours)
http://www.mindef.gov.bn/new_hom ... ntract%20MINDEF.htm

The second day of the Brunei International Defence Exhibition and Forum, BRIDEX 2007 witnessed a contract signing ceremony between the Government of His Majesty, The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam represented by the Ministry of Defence and Singapore Technologies Kinetic Limited for the Ultimax-100 Light Machine Gun. The ceremony was held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas this morning.

Signing on behalf of the Ministry of Defence was the Permanent Secretary, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat, witnessed by the Director of Finance and Acquisition, Miss Ang Guat Lay. While signing on behalf of St. Kinetics was the president of the company, Mr Sew Chee Jhuen, witnessed by the Chief Marketing Officer, Mr Patrick Choy.

The Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) have been using M-16 Heavy Barrel Automatic Rifle (otherwise known as the HBAR) for approximately twenty years. As part of the transformation and modernisation efforts currently the Ministry of Defence will be replacing these heavy barrels automatic rifles with a modern and more effective light machine gun, the Ultimax-100 Light Machine Gun. It is one of the world's lightest machine gun, with the lowest recoil, and has a higher accuracy rate. Its design allows ease of operation by only one-man, and allows ease of maintenance, and it offers very effective firepower for our troops with a very high level of accuracy and reliability.
