What抯 cooking between Amrita & Vivek?

Now before you think a scoop of sorts is brewing out here between the pretty Amrita Rao and Viviek Oberoi, let's warn you that you're simply jumping the gun. Chemistry is really cool, but that's only on-screen, there抯 no off-screen love blossoming between the pair.

Amrita says, "I worked with Viviek for the second time; our comfort levels were so good. Viviek has worked hard on his character for Pyare Mohan, he had to lip read and know everybody's lines. In Masti you saw a different Viviek; in this one you'll see a very different Viviek."

Everyone would love to have a co-star like Amrita, what say Viviek?

Suneil Shetty perfect gentleman: Celina

Actress Celina Jaitley is upset with reports that Suniel Shetty misbehaved on the sets of "Apna Sapna Money Money" and says the actor is a perfect gentleman and the allegations are completely baseless.

"It is completely untrue because I was there on the sets of 'Apna Sapna Money Money'. Everyone knows that Suniel Shetty is a big prankster and it was just a joke. Even I love pranks."

"Suniel is the most well behaved gentlemen I have come across. We all hold him with the highest regards. I am very upset with the alleged reports," said Celina, quashing rumours of Suniel's misbehaviour.

Celina holds Suniel in great regard and calls him her mentor and guide.

"Suniel is the perfect Gentleman. I have the highest regards for him. I consider him my mentor. I had no idea how to deal with the industry and I learned a lot from him."

She also said that Suniel had always been supportive, friendly and is always ready to help anyone in need. "It is not that everyone call him 'Anna' for nothing," she said.

Anil Kapoor at centre of South African credit card row

Bollywood star Anil Kapoor, lauded by President Thabo Mbeki recently as a 'global ambassador for South Africa', is at the centre of a row with a local businessman accused of illegally using the actor's credit card to settle huge bills.

But Graham Chennells, a hotelier and former mayor of the small northern KwaZulu-Natal town of Eshowe, has accused Kapoor of reneging on promises to pay outstanding bills for a film project that was subsequently abandoned.

The weekly Sunday Tribune here quoted Kapoor as accusing Chennells and his friend Fergus Upfold of overcharging and settling unauthorised expenses with credit card details supplied by him in good faith.

Upfold, a builder, constructed sets intended to be used for the film 'Gandhi My Father' about which no further details could be obtained from Kapoor's office, said the Sunday Tribune.

'We went to Eshowe from India as foreigners and completely relied on inputs from Graham and Fergus to plan our shoot there,' Kapoor told the paper.

'Thereafter, we used Graham's hotel (The George) and Fergus was contracted to build a set for us. However, due to unfortunate circumstances, we could not shoot in Eshowe for the film.

'Still, we paid all the bills raised by Graham and Fergus to cover hotel use, construction, land use, labour, security, tribal land use, costs of storage and other costs asked for by them.'

He said Upfold had been paid more than 300,000 rands ($50,000) and every bill raised by Chennells had been settled.

But Chennells, agreeing that Kapoor had provided him with his credit card details to settle the amount owed to his hotel, said some of this amount and payments made to Upfold from the card were subsequently reversed on Kapoor's instructions.

He conceded to the Sunday Tribune that he had abused Kapoor's trust in debiting the credit card after he had cleared what was due to him, but said he felt responsible for payments due to Upfold.

'I had roped in Fergus in the first place. Fergus paid lots of people out of his own pocket on behalf of the producers,' said Chennells.

Kapoor's chief accountant, Jayesh Thakkar, told the Sunday Tribune that besides having settled all accounts, the company had also left behind construction material and other property purchased in South Africa and brought from India in the custody of Upfold, to dispose of as he saw fit.

'All this property is worth a large sum of money which, in fact, he should refund to us if he wishes to deal honestly in this matter,' Thakkar said, adding that Kapoor's credit card was used fraudulently.

'This constituted grave credit card fraud and complete misuse of trust reposed in Graham. The credit card company conducted its own investigation and agreed with us on the matter.'

Thakkar said Kapoor was 'unhappy' that Chennells and Upfold had created a bad impression about his film company in South Africa, where 'we have many friends and have very fond memories'.

Kapoor is a frequent visitor to South Africa. He had described to IANS his emotions when meeting with former president Nelson Mandela last year as being akin to the birth of his first child.

In February, Kapoor was a special guest at the opening of parliament in Cape Town, where he was introduced as an ambassador for the country by President Mbeki in his opening address.

Anyone want to eat Bobby Deol?

A cake shop in Bandra has a cake that is named after Bobby Deol.

A few years ago a friend of Bobby抯 had specially ordered a cake for Bobby. A cake made of brownie cake, walnuts, praline and chocolate mousse. Bobby loved it so much that he keeps ordering it every few weeks. So the shop-keeper has decided to put it on his 憁enu

Make Preity your number one customer

Preity Zinta has decided that from now on she will not bargain with shop retailers to get the price lowered down.

The actress seems to think that Karma will come to work and any retailers, who charge her more than a reasonable price, will get there dues in time.

In the past, her assistant would never let her pay more than expected, but now she doesn抰 care. She is willing to pay whatever the shop keeper asks.

My dear Preity, do not think like this, money is precious. If you really want to waste it away, then give some to me, I am always looking for it.

Pooja Bhatt: Collaboration for Mutual Benefit

DISMISSING the notion that Bollywood's foray into Pakistan will ruin the country's movie industry, filmmaker Pooja Bhatt, has said such an association would help in reviving the Pakistan filmworld, besides evolving a pan-South Asian cultural identity.

"Bollywood is not going to hurt the Pakistani film world as widely publicised. Just as our film industry successfully tackles the onslaughts of Hollywood, the Pakistani film industry will also pull up its socks and finally emerge more stronger than it is now," Bhatt, the first Indian director to premiere a film in Pakistan said.

"South Asia shares a common cultural background, which can be enriched through the most popular medium of the region - films. This will lead to the evolution of a pan-South Asian cultural identity," the actress-turned filmmaker said on the sidelines of the SAARC Business Leaders' Conclave organised by FICCI.

Though there is tremendous interest among Indian movie makers to shoot in Pakistan and vice-versa, the governments of both countries have paid no heedto this popular demand, Bhatt complained.

"The interaction of artists, musicians and writers not only enriches each other's culture, but also helps in facilitating the Indo-Pakistan peace process," Bhatt, whose directorial debut Paap was premiered at Pakistan's Kara film festival in December 2003, said.

"Active co-operation among the film industries of South Asia will throw open before us a big pool of talent that can be tapped to our advantage," she said.

While our technicians can gain immensely by such crossovers, many talented artists, singers and musicians in Pakistan can get better exposure in India, Bhatt said.

She said filmmakers could save much money by filming in numerous unexplored locales in the subcontinent, which can match the most exotic of locations in Europe or the US, instead of spending a fortune by shooting in far off countries.

Shooting within the subcontinent will also promote tourism in the region, as Bollywood films now have a larger audience the world over, said Bhatt, whose latest movie Holiday, will be premiered at the 36th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) next month.

Amitabh is Dhoni's fan!

How would you feel if the nation's biggest superstar is your fan? Well, there's bound to be no end to your joy and that's exactly what's been happening to India's new cricket wonder boy Mahinder Singh Dhoni when he realized Amitabh Bachchan, who has been his childhood idol, turned out to be his die-hard fan. The two of them met on a film's set in Mumbai. Dhoni was shooting in Mumbai's Filmcity for a commercial, while the Big B was also shooting in the same place. When AB learnt of Dhoni's presence, he sent in a word to the sporting superstar asking him if they could meet. "At first Dhoni couldn't believe his luck. He thought someone was pulling a fast one on him, but when he realized the truth, he sent a message saying it wouldn抰 be polite for Mr Bachchan to come and see him - instead, after his shoot he himself would come and meet him. And, of course, Dhoni finished his shoot and rushed to the nearby set to meet his idol," says a unit member. Talk of mutual admiration societies!

Horror-phobic Amitabh did Darna for free!

He's again on the move. India's foremost entertainment ambassador completed a schedule of his brand new film 'Cheeni Kam' in Delhi. After a day in Dubai to introduce this year's IFFA awards, he leaves for Ram Gopal Varma's 'Nishabd' in Kerala.
This week Mr Bachchan's first horror film Darna Zaroori Hai opened in theatres. "It was just a day's work," laughs the ever-busy actor. "I remember I flew into Mumbai in the night, shot all day and the following night and then left Mumbai the next morning. Yeah, it was quite something. Ramu's passion is to keep making films and to keep surprising people by doing unexpected things. He asked me to do this one segment in Darna

Akshaye, Shahid, Kareena, Upen sizzle 'Aashique'

Talking about Himesh Reshammiya, his 'Aashique' seems to be going a long way!

Though by no ways is '36 China Town' a love story, this brilliantly composed rhythmic love'n'dance track, 'Aashique Ye Meri', is turning out to be a real chartbuster before the film's release. If the original and remix version of this superhit number were not enough, there is yet another music video out that is set in the same mode as the one on the air. So what's special? This time the track also features Akshaye Khanna. In addition, there are Chinese dancers in the background who are traditionally attired and gyrate to authentic dance steps.

No wonder the song looks Exxxtra cool with the presence of cool as cucumber Akshaye. From Shahid, Kareena and Upen to an additional presence of Akshaye - it's indeed the case of 'teen se bhale chaar'!

Akshaye-Ayesha to pair again

After the dhoom of Shaadi Se Pehle, Akshaye Khanna and Ayesha Takia are supposedly starring once again for another untitled film directed by the writer of 'Shaadi Se Pehle', Sanjay Chhel who's only passion was direction.

Sanjay has reportedly approached the two actors for his film which is inspired from Raj Kapoor's genre of musicals.

The story is sort of a love story with a romantic attitude. It is about a cool guy who's on a lookout for eternal love and the way he woos the heroine again and again. Chhel has reported that a music company might finance for the movie. Chhel claims himself to be feel-good writer.

Fardeen Khan bats for AIDS awareness

Audiences were in for a rocking time as Bollywood star Fardeen Khan took the stage for the cause of HIV/AIDS here at a musical extravaganza that was specially designed to spread awareness about the deadly disease.

"I have heard that Shillong likes to rock and I am here today to talk about HIV/AIDS and have some fun with you. Through the universal language of music, I want to draw your attention to this serious health problem we are facing today," said Fardeen at a rock show here last night amid 1,000 odd audience.

The show at the U Tirot Singh Indoor Stadium was part of the country's largest AIDS awareness campaign, launched by the BBC World Service Trust, National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) and Doordarshan.

The campaign includes a weekly youth focused reality television show "Haath Se Haath Milla", which is to be telecasted on the national network of Doordarshan. The show, in its coming three episodes, will tell the story of Shillong-based activist Mrs Hasina Kharbhih who has been working for spreading awareness about AIDS in the North East region.

Fardeen was here to address the issue on invitation from Mrs Kharbhih.

"India has 5.1 million people infected with HIV, which is the second largest in the world. I urge the parents here to talk about the disease openly with their children. This will be the first step towards fighting this deadly disease," said Fardeen.

At the show, Fardeen joined the audience in cheering to the performance of different local bands such as 'Strait Brothers', 'Rhythm Devine', 'Democracy' and 'Innocent Eyes'.

LAST BITE With Amrita Arora

My last meal out was at Cafe Basilico, Bandra. I love their sugar-free desserts. But usually I prefer home cooked food any day. As the saying goes: There is no place like home especially where good old ghar ka khaana is concerned.

Having said that, I must admit I抦 a complete foodie. I particularly savour Italian, Chinese, Japanese and Thai food. And when on a diet, I prefer going on a high protein meal that抯 rich in soya, and I try to have dinner by 7.30 or 8 pm. But otherwise, it just depends on my mood.

Among the restaurants I love in Mumbai, the top slot is filled by Olive Bar & Kitchen, Khar. Their pizza and pasta梑esides the Spanish Paella they make especially for my sister and me梐re my favourites.

My dessert craving is satiated only by the Big Blueberry Cheesecake, also homemade, by a lady called Bunty. It抯 truly amazing.

Being a complete Bambaiya fan, I love street food in all forms. You can see me trying anything, from pani puri and bhel to ragda pattice, on Mumbai roadsides.

I begin my day with a glass of orange juice that my mom prepares for me. Anything else, except juice is a strict no-no for me. With regards to alcohol, I hate everything梖rom Champagne to any other hard liquor.

John is not a monument, says Bipasha

There are very few actresses one would sacrifice a day off for, but since it抯 Bipasha Basu I head to Juhu on a Sunday.

Clad in a black and red outfit, Basu sinks into a leather chair and we begin with Phir Hera Pheri, her forthcoming release. Did she get edgy due to the director being constantly changed before the film went on floors? "Yes, I was worried because he抯 the captain of the ship. I didn抰 know who was going to direct, or what kind of temperament he would have. Whether he would approve of the screenplay, what changes he would suggest etc. But when we learnt that Neeraj Vora was directing the film, we were relieved because he has written Hera Pheri and the sequel too," says Basu.

An extension of Tabu抯 character Anuradha in the original, the sequel sees Basu抯 entry as a seedhi-saadi looking girl who抯 actually a con. And like everyone else in the film, she too is after big money. She wreaks havoc in people抯 lives and makes good with her catch," she adds.

In the beginning of her career, she did films that revolved around her. When some didn抰 work causing a low phase, she did multi-starrers where she comfortably shared the limelight with other actors. Is there a strategy in choosing multi-starrers like Phir Hera Pheri and Sanjay Gadhvi抯 Dhoom 2 and balancing them with a Corporate where she抯 the central character?

"Not really. I抳e never been strategic about my career. When I did films that revolved around me, I did them because the roles appealed to me. I did No Entry because people told me it would be a good move for me. The audience is more receptive to multi-starrers because so much is happening in the film in terms of story, performances etc. If you抮e doing an act with 10 people and are remembered for it, it抯 much better than doing something in a solo starrer," she explains.
Of late she seems to speak less and less about beau John Abraham. "That抯 because he also talks about it. Since we抮e both from the same profession, there抯 only so much one can say. How much more can I talk about him? He抯 not a national monument that you can talk over the years about him. When he becomes Amitabh Bachchan then we抣l talk a lot more about him."

Talking of Corporate, did she imbibe any characteristics from her corporate friends to develop her role? "Firstly, I only have two corporate friends and they抮e both non-cooperative," she jests. "The credit goes to Madhur Bhandarkar for taking care of all the minute details of the character graph, diction, body language. And if you think that Corporate revolves around me, you抮e forgetting the 35 theatre actors who抮e playing important parts in it."

How did she react to her name coming up in the Amar Singh tapes scandal? "It was the first time I felt vulnerable in the industry. I never react to whatever is written about me, but this time things went out of control and there wasn抰 an iota of truth to it. I felt violated. I cried like a child and went to my parents for comfort. At times I feel the media jumps the gun without in vestigating facts."
