Derby's Billy Davies was the third manager to lose his job this season after losing to Chelsea. Chris Hutchings (Wigan) and Sammy Lee (Bolton) were the others.
Michael Essien, who celebrates his 25th birthday on Monday, is suspended following his straight red card at Derby last weekend. He will also miss our games with Sunderland and Arsenal. West Ham have no-one suspended.
Carlo Cudicini, if selected, will make his 200th Chelsea appearance and will become only the seventh overseas player to reach that milestone. The previous six were Zola 312, Gudjohnsen 263, Gallas 225, Desailly 222, Petrescu 208, Leb?uf 204.

Can Steve Sidwell Ever Step Into Frank Lampard's Shoes?
With Essien suspended for three games and the African Cup of Nations on the horizon, Steve Sidwell's presence in the Chelsea team looks set to be on the up. But does anybody out there really think he's good enough to stay there?
A cloud still hangs over Lampard's future and, without him in the team, we look totally lost from an attacking perspective. I'd like tot hink that Sidwell could be moulded into a potential successor for the Lampard role because they do share some similar characteristics.
However, with a long list of failures including names like Emmanuel Petit, Jody Morris, Geremi, Juan Sebastian Veron, Jiri Jarosik, Tiago and Maniche in recent years, it's hard to picture Sidwell as anything other than another bit-part player.
In fact, the central midfield position is littered with flops. Ballack could even be a new entrant to that list in the near future. Essien and Makelele are the only players you couldn't fault since the days of Di Matteo, Poyet and Wisey.
Papepung, ku harap pak roman tak jual lagik dia for two reasons, dia english player, n he's still young. |

Scolari urges Ronaldinho to make Chelsea decision
Ronaldinho's former Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has told the Barcelona star to make a decision on whether he is joining Chelsea or staying in Spain.
Portugal boss Scolari believes all the speculation is hurting Ronaldinho's form and said: "What Ronaldinho needs to decide is if he's continuing in Barcelona or is going to leave and join Chelsea. What he needs most now is a little stability." Scolari also revealed he voted for Chelsea ace Didier Drogba in FIFA's World Player of the Year awards. "For first place I voted for Kaka and I say sincerely that he is going to be the winner, also I included on the list Messi and Drogba." |

Chelsea boss Grant wants three January signings
Chelsea boss Avram Grant is set to be active in the January market.
The Independent says Chelsea are looking for "three or four" new players according to Grant with a striker a top target. Other priorities are a creative midfielder - although Michael Ballack returns soon - and a right-back with Juliano Belletti unconvincing in what has been a long-term problem position. |
