I wonder why we should be looking at the F-16,Mig-35 and such.. these are designs that was first flown in the 70s and early 80s.Time to look forward guys..
Dry leasing an initial squadron of Gripen C/D would be the best choice, with an option tobuy the more advanced E/F version once it becomes available. The lead time shud give our pilots plenty of time to adapt.Mind, the Gripen is probably the easiest fighter to fly according to Chris Yeo,Flight International's test pilot who first flew the Gripen in early 2000 out of Linkoping. In fact, some even questioned the need for advanced LIFTs to operate the Gripen.
With the advent of advanced AAMs such as the Meteor and AGMunitions such as SDBs,payload in such a small airframe is not really handicapped anymore. With the Gripen NG,additional internal fuel coupled with supercruise capability also makes it long legged as well, relative to its small size. With its dispersed operations capability,I just don't see anyother type that could match its abilities for the asking price. |

..and buy back the Hawk 208s thru BAe.
That way,we reduce the type of fighters we operate.Mig-29 and Hawk208 for Gripens.Sweet! |
