Schumacher takes blame for clash with Petrov
Michael Schumacher has accepted responsibility for his collision with Renault's Vitaly Petrov in the Turkish Grand Prix. The contact, which caused an unwanted early pit visit for the seven-time World Champion, occurred as the Russian attacked on the inside of Turn 12 at the end of the second lap.
“A lot of fighting and action today and that was probably the positive part of my race,” German Schumacher said later in the afternoon. “Obviously I am not very happy with my weekend, but I'm responsible myself for the result.
“The incident with Petrov kind of dictated my race. We were very close and I was surprised that we touched, but it was mostly my mistake. After making such an early stop, the way the race played out was given from there.
“What we can take away from this weekend in Turkey is that we have confirmed our good trend and we still have things to come to help us deliver more of our potential.” |

Force India aiming to beat Mercedes
Force India’s ultimate target this year is to beat the Mercedes works team. Those are the feelings of Team Manager Andy Stevenson, who is looking to move ahead of several rivals as a host of updates are introduced from Spain onwards.
In Sunday’s Turkish Grand Prix, points eluded Mercedes-powered Force India as Adrian Sutil dropped from 12th on the grid to 13th while team-mate Paul di Resta stopped on-track with a suspected loose wheel after a pit-stop.
“We’ve had a design philosophy which we’ve been working on since the early part of the year,” Stevenson explained in the team’s post-race podcast.
“What it’s meant is that parts aren’t coming onto the car as quick as possible, or at least they weren’t. In the next few races you should see quite a few changes which, hopefully, should improve our performance and move us up the grid. We want to be solid Q3 qualifiers, so hopefully that’s what we’ll see.
“We’ve got the guys around us…Sauber, Williams, Toro Rosso – we want to be in front of all of those guys. We want to be in Q3 and to do that we’re going to have to beat them every time and possibly pick off some of the others."
However, Stevenson's ultimate goal is to run ahead of the factory silver arrow cars of Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher:
“Mercedes are a very strong outfit and they seem to be moving forward, but they’re still not a million miles from where we are and that’s got to be our aim: to get in front of Mercedes.” |
