Location revealed for Greek F1 circuit
Details have been confirmed about a Greek Formula 1 circuit that is due to be constructed in the Peloponnese, with plans finally coming into fruition after long-term discussions. The construction - which must be permitted by the government - is due to take three years and will be situated exactly 20 kilometres south-east of Patras.
"According to the study, the track will be able to host Formula 1 cars, Super bike and Go-Kart racing," the Regional, Development and Competitiveness Ministry explained in a statement this week.
"After the completion of the investment, 497 new job positions are expected to be created and a significant boost to tourism the in the region."
Last year Greece received a loan of 110 billion euros (94 billion pounds) to help ease the pain of a severe financial crisis, with the new circuit estimated at a cost of 95 million euros (82.6 million pounds). |

Renault hoping to supply four teams in 2012
Renault Sport F1 has confirmed to GPUpdate.net that it is hoping to supply one more team in Formula 1 next year. Such a happening would require official confirmation from governing body FIA, whose current team limit for engine manufacturers is three.
The French company, based in Viry-Châtillon and which has in recent years been subject to a failed buyout request from Craig Pollock’s newly-established PURE, currently supplies Lotus Renault GP, Team Lotus and Red Bull Racing.
Although Renault has not officially suggested who the fourth outfit would be, it is being widely reported that the diamond marque could reunite with Williams, which it last won titles with in 1997.
“This year, Renault Sport F1 supplies three teams in the FIA Formula One World Championship and we have stated on several occasions that we would be prepared to supply a fourth if the circumstances are right,” reads an official statement from Jean-François Caubet, Managing Director of Renault Sport F1.
“However to do so, an application must be submitted to the FIA. As we are speaking speculatively to a number of teams to expand our partner base, we are discussing our situation with the FIA so we are fully ready if the situation arises.” |
