Five members of Italy? World Cup winning squad are included in the shortlist of 30 players who will compete for the 2006 FIFA World Player of the Year title.
Fabio Cannavaro, Gianluigi Buffon, Gennaro Gattuso, Alessandro Nesta and Andrea Pirlo are on the list, along with five Frenchman who starred in the World Cup Final in Berlin, those being Zinedine Zidane, Thierry Henry, Frank Ribery, Lilian Thuram and Patrick Vieira.
Only Zidane and Ronaldinho among the candidates have already lifted the prestigious trophy in the past.

Canna wants Napoli comeback

Neapolitan native Fabio Cannavaro has confessed he'll end his career at the San Paolo and reveals a curious back-story to the World Cup.
The defender captained the Azzurri to glory in Berlin before walking out on Juventus in the wake of the Calciopoli scandal, but he hasn't turned his back on Italian football.
"At the age of 33 I didn't feel like ending my career in Serie B with a heavy points penalty. I couldn't say no to that offer from Real Madrid," he told Max magazine.
"My ultimate dream is to finish off my playing years with my brother Paolo at Napoli, forging a family central defensive partnership."
Cannavaro and his younger sibling were born in Naples and were ball boys for the club before moving up through the youth ranks to the senior squad.
They both left after the side began to slip into Serie B and eventual bankruptcy, but Paolo returned this summer to enjoy a great season at the San Paolo and could soon be joined by his brother.
Napoli are making big plans for the future, as it's already been reported that securing promotion into the top flight will bring World Cup winning Coach Marcello Lippi - also a familiar face here - back to Campania.
Cannavaro looked back at the triumph in Germany and reveals how the Azzurri created - or at least forged - the impression of such unity.
"Myself, Gigi Buffon and the other more experienced members of the squad tried to organise the Press conferences," he smiled.
"We made sure that the more annoyed players who didn't get to feature very much, like Pippo Inzaghi and Massimo Oddo, were kept away from the journalists! There was no need to take these steps with Alessandro Del Piero, as he has always been a gentleman. In my view he's the best person I've met in this sport." Others kept themselves away from the media, such as Alessandro Nesta, who missed most of the tournament with an injury.
"It was a shame for me to see during the festivities that Nesta stayed to one side. He couldn't bring himself to celebrate quite as much, because he didn't feel he'd really earned that World Cup." (poor nesta... apsal la asyik injured bila werlkap)

Blatter Says Sorry To Australia For Italy Defeat
It may be cold comfort for Australian fans but FIFA chief Sepp Blatter has apologised for the Socceroos? controversial exit at the World Cup, saying that the team should have progressed to the last eight instead of Italy.
The Azzuri went on to win the competition but things could have been very different.
With the score at 0-0 in the last minute of the June 26 second round meeting between the two teams, Lucas Neill was controversially adjudged to have fouled Fabio Grosso in the penalty box.
Francesco Totti fired home the resultant spot kick to send his team into the last eight and the Australians out of the competition.
In an interview with Australian broadcasters SBS, Blatter said sorry and blamed the players' antics at the World Cup for causing problems.
"I think there was too much cheating on the players' side," he said.
"I would like to apologise (to) our fans in Australia."
Blatter believed that Guus Hiddink? team deserved a place in the next round.
"They were great," he said.
"The Socceroos should have gone into the quarter-finals because they were up to beating Italy."
