No change for Azzurri
Monday 18 December, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Italy remain in second place behind Brazil in the FIFA World Rankings, as the South American side top the list for a fifth straight year.
The Azzurri earned over 500 points compared to last year, thanks to the win in the 2006 World Cup, leaping from 12th to second.
However, Brazil only have a 28-point lead over the Nazionale and a change at the top of the ranking in the New Year is not unlikely.
Argentina, France and Germany follow the leading pair, while Nigeria are one of the big movers of the year, having recently broken into the top 10 at the expense of Spain.
The ranking measures only the number of points gained over the past 12 months, whereas two of the previous factors used [goals scored and home advantage] no longer have any impact.
1. Brazil ? 1,588 points
2. Italy ? 1,560
3. Argentina ? 1,551
4. France ? 1,523
5. England ? 1,359
6. Germany ? 1,350
7. Netherlands ? 1,305
8. Portugal ? 1,258
9. Nigeria ? 1,244
10. Czech Republic ? 1,190 |
