Shilpa Shetty is not in 'Babel'

Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty has clarified that she was never a part of the international film "Babel" starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett that received critical acclaimed at the just concluded Cannes Film Festival.

"Shilpa has not signed any international film as yet," the star's spokesperson Dale Bhagwagar told IANS.

The rumour about her role in "Babel", directed by the Mexican filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, started doing the rounds when a reputed international website, imdb.com (International Movie Data Base) incorrectly mentioned Shilpa's name in the film's cast.

A number of websites also indicated that Shilpa would be playing the role of an Indian girl, named Sameera Sehgal, in the film.

Denying knowledge of who might have been behind this mistake, Bhagwagar added that he had written to the website to correct it.

"Soon after returning from her vacation in New York, Shilpa got busy at the Mehboob Studio, shooting a song for Anil Sharma's 'Apne', while her nationwide 'Romanov' advertisement campaign will start any time now," Bhagwagar said.

Provoked could be a stepping stone for Aishwarya Rai

Remember the name.

Bollywood actress, Aishwarya Rai, could quickly become a mainstream film star based on her portrayal as a battered wife in the critically acclaimed film Provoked. The film has already premiered at Cannes and was also featured in the much less prominent IIFA ceremony in Dubai.

In Provoked Rai plays the role of Kiranjit Ahluwalia, a Punjabi woman married to an Indian in the UK. Kiranjit was a victim of domestic violence and suffered torture at the hands of her husband for ten years before killing him. The courts in Britain first sentenced her to life imprisonment, but later reprieved the punishment. The film is based on a true story.

Up until this point, Aishwarya Rai has stuck to her Bollywood roots. However, with this latest role in what has become a critically acclaimed film, she might be ready to crossover into the Hollywood scene.

Do you feel being an Ash look-alike has been a bonus for you in Bollywood?
I am a big admirer of Aishwarya Rai for her work and achievements in the film industry but to be very honest I am not really happy being compared to her for my looks. I want to have my own individuality. What can I do if I look like her? I don't want to be so but can't change my looks now. I love to be known and recognized for my own work and achievements.

What if you are given a role to portray Ash's duplicate?
I am open to any role that's reasonable and rational but I don't want to be recognized as an Ash look-alike, for sure.

Have you ever met Aishwarya in real life?
I have met her once at a function and she met me with all respect and warmth. I liked it very much. To be true, in the beginning I wanted to avoid her but then I changed my mind and went and said "Hi" to her.

What do you admire Aishwarya Rai for?
I think she has moved from strength to strength and reached at this stage in her career. After meeting her I realized she is very warm and friendly. I really admire the fact that being at this stage in her life, she is so humble and down do earth.

You are a big fan of Salman Khan too. Has the recent controversies concerning Salman had any effect on your opinion about him?
I felt lucky that Salman's sister introduced me to him and then the film Lucky happened. I am very close to Salman's family because they have treated me like their own family member. I never feel out of place when I am with Salman's family. Both brothers, Salman and Suhail, are warmhearted and emotional people. I pray that he comes out of this phase of his life very soon.

'Salman is my lucky mascot'

Well-known Bollywood producer Sajid Nadiadwala, who teamed up with Salman Khan for the first time in 1996 for Jeet, says the actor is his lucky mascot.

They have worked together in four films, of which Jeet, Judwaa and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi were blockbusters, the fourth, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega, was not.

"Salman Khan is a good friend. He is like my younger brother maybe SK (the initials) is lucky for me... Just like K is lucky for Karan Johar," said Nadiadwala. He says the 'SK' factor has played an important role in the success of his production house.

Nadiadwala's banner had recently invested Rs 1 billon in three new directors - Shirish Kunder (Jan-e-Man), Sajid Khan (Hey Baby) and Sabir Khan (untitled film) - all with the initials SK!
To a question on the risk factor involved in investing Rs 1 billon in new directors, he said: "I am aware of the risk factor. It is a calculated risk. As a producer I am confident that I will not regret my decision.

"I come from a family which has been three decades in the industry. The idea is to expand my production house and make films with new directors. Since I am hungry for fresh ideas and innovation, I have signed on new directors."

Ash and Sush battle it out

Ever since they came into the limelight, together, Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen have always been pitted against each other. And there seems to be a fierce competition, yet again. Both the divas are slated to play the role of Rani Lakshmibai, in separate projects.

Aishwarya Rai抯 film, to be produced by Ketan Mehta, was already announced last year. Sushmita Sen too plans to produce a film on the same subject, under her banner, Tantra. If rumors are to be believed, her boyfriend Manav Menon will direct the film. She had earlier said that either the director or the director of photography will be from Hollywood. However her film will be based on Rani Lakshmibai as a mother.

There was some misunderstanding with the producer, Feroz Nadiadwala. He thought, that she had left for London to shoot for Abbas-Mustan抯 next, without competing the dubbing. Earlier, the actress抯 voice was dubbed in films like Ajnabee and Raaz.

Shahid & Kareena Kapoor got a chance to spend one more month together

Shahid and Kareena Kapoor have recently done two films together - '36 China Town' & 'Chup Chup Ke'. They got a chance to spend one more month together, as they participate in the 'Rockstar' concerts. Shahid shares, "It was my first overseas concert. The five of us, Mallika, Esha, Zayed, John and I were first timers. Only Kareena and Salman were seasoned performers. I used to get nervous before every show. But I loved being on stage." The feedback of last released films was encouraging for him.
