WALAUPUN jentera serangan Perak sudah menghasilkan 10 gol dalam empat perlawanan, Seladang tetap meneruskan buruan terhadap seorang penyerang import berwibawa sebagai langkah berjaga-jaga.

Pengurus pasukan, Datuk Jamal Nasir Rasdi berkata langkah itu diambil kerana tidak mahu terlalu bergantung kepada seseorang pemain.

“Musim masih panjang. Macam-macam boleh berlaku. Lagipun kita sudah ada pengalaman akibat terlalu bergantung kepada Frank Seator pada musim 2004 dan 2005.

“Apabila dia gagal menyumbang gol pencapaian pasukan turut terjejas. Oleh yang demikian, Perak tidak mahu terperangkap dalam keadaan tidak bersedia seandainya penyerang sedia ada mengalami kecederaan atau penggantungan,” katanya.

Apapun Jamal Nasir lega kerana Keita Mandjou setakat ini bertindak cemerlang sebagai peledak utama dengan menyumbang enam gol kepada Perak dalam empat perlawanan.

Selain itu beliau juga lega dengan kemantapan bahagian benteng yang hanya melepaskan dua gol setakat ini.

“Setakat ini semua berjalan lancar untuk Perak dan saya berharap pemain mampu mengekalkan prestasi baik hingga akhir musim,” katanya.

Berikutan itu Jamal Nasir berkata usaha mencari penyerang yang diperlukan itu masih dilakukan melalui beberapa ejen.

Namun pada masa sama pengurus Perak itu berkata Seladang tidak menerima sembarangan pemain kerana calon yang dicadangkan disaring terlebih dahulu.

Katanya, jurulatih pasukan, Steve Darby membuat kerja rumah dengan menyaring nama pemain yang dicadangkan melalui internet.

“Darby bukan jenis yang mudah percaya cakap ejen. Dia akan menyemak melalui internet nama pemain yang dicadangkan dan memaklumkan kepada persatuan sama ada calon itu layak diuji atau tidak. Dengan cara ini menjimatkan masa dan wang,” katanya.

Christmas brings glad tidings to coach Darby and Mandjou

JOHOR BARU: Perak's English coach Steve Darby does not celebrate Christmas. Nor does Guinean striker Keita Mandjou a devout Muslim.

But celebrate they will.

For free-thinker Darby, things are going nicely with Perak bouncing back form a shock 0-1 defeat by Malacca Telekom at home to hand Pahang a 2-0 beating in Kuantan in a midweek match before the 10-day break in the league.

And for Mandjou, his son has arrived.

The Guinean, the Super League's top scorer with six goals, finally became a proud father yesterday.

His wife Yvvette Rebeiz gave birth to a baby boy at the Ipoh Specialist Centre Hospital yesterday.

The Guinean had been torn between his wife and the team when Perak played Malacca Telekom in Ipoh last Saturday and against Pahang in Kuantan.

“Mandjou becoming a father is certainly good news for the team and calls for celebration,” said Darby. “He can now concentrate on his job. We need his exploits.”

The match against Telekom was the only match Mandjou failed to find the net in his team's 0-1 defeat. He scored both goals against Pahang.

Meanwhile, Perak are on the verge of signing up either a former Macedonian international or a Zambian youth international as their fourth foreign player.

The Macedonian is Jurica Silvanavski, 31 while the Zambian is 25-year-old Emanuel Zulu.

Apart from Mandjou, the other foreigners in the team are midfielder Abdoulaye Troare from Burkina Faso and Croatian defender Vedran Kucov. [B]

yg penting ada ilmu pasal bola sepak..kalau takat main kampong..nak cakap pasal taktik bolasepak..baik takyah..penyampain shebby?..gagap sikit je..dia mmg boleh speaking..so diaorg amik le dia..kalau takat yes..no..yes..no..takat diaorg nak amik..

Perak’s Darby wary of wounded Elephants

JOHOR BARU: Pahang may be propping up the eight-team Super League competition, without a point and without a win after three matches, but the inaugural champions still remains the team to watch, warns Perak coach Steve Darby.

The Elephants, are at the bottom of the table after losing all their three matches so far – to Negri Sembilan (0-1) Selangor (1-3) and Perak (0-2).

Pahang and defending champions Perlis have played one match fewer than the others after their match in Kangar last Saturday was postponed because of a flooded pitch.

Darby, who took over the Perak job from Brazilian Toni Netto strongly believes that Pahang “have the team to challenge for honours” despite the three straight defeats.

“We might have won 2-0 against Pahang but from what I saw, they have a good, strong team. They have strength in every department and they have the players who can carry their challenge,” said Darby.

“Good teams do lose matches and undergo bad spells. That is exactly what is happening to Pahang. I feel sorry for Pahang but that is football. Pahang also have a good coach in Zainal (Abidin Hassan).

“Pahang still have some of the best football players in the country ... like Indra Putra (Mahyuddin), Hairuddin Omar, Rosdi Talib, Azizul Kamaluddin and many others.

As for his own team, Darby is not overly buoyed by their great start.

Perak have lifted the Charity Shield and won three of their four matches but the Englishman believes it will be a “tight race.”

“We are only four matches into the season. The battle is just building up.

“There is a long and winding road ahead. I am not writing off any of our rivals,” added Darby.
