The Samsung P200 is a conventional looking sliding phone on the surface, but underneath it's actually a WiFi enabled handset capable of UMA / VOIP (Unlicensed Mobile Access / Voice Over IP) phone.

It's not the first UMA phone that we've seen announced - the Nokia 6136 was the first - but the SGH-P200 is the first to market, launching first in Italy.

Essentially, UMA is a second generation WiFi based VOIP protocol which allows the users to switch easily between a standard cellular call and a WiFi based one. Clearly, you'll need a compatible WiFi hotspot which you'll then have to configure, so some assembly will be required with the P200.

UMA is the clever bit with the Samsung P200, but beyond that it's a very conventional slider phone. It looks exactly like a whole lot of other Samsung sliders, and comes with a 176x220 pixel display, 1.3 megapixel camera, an MP3 player, 80Mb of non-expandable memory and Bluetooth is a fairly lightweight device coming in at 95 grams.

Samsung say that after the P200's launch in Italy, it should then become available in other European countries during the latter half of 2006.

At first glance it looks very much like a whole lot of other Samsung handsets, but turn the B600 around and you can see an oversized digital camera lens which does look unusual.

In fact, the Samsung SCH-B600 comes with a 10 megapixel camera with 3X optical zoom with autofocus and flash. When you consider that a typical top-of-the-range European phone only comes in a 3 megapixels and only a small number of those have optical zoom, then the SCH-B600 looks quite impressive.

Megapixels aren't everything though, and camera phones tend to suffer from poor quality optics that limit the picture quality. Too many phones have had a high megapixel count spoiled by compromised optics that make the photographs look blurry. The SCH-B600 is different - the lens actually moves out from the back of the handset in exactly the same way as a good quality digital camera (although you can't tell that from these photographs). Essentially, the SCH-B600 appears to be a proper digital camera grafted onto a phone.. or a phone grafted onto a proper digital camera.

The Samsung B600 also supports Satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (Satellite DMB), it comes with a 2.2" 240x320 pixel display in 16 million colours, Bluetooth, multimedia support and microMMC expandable memory. As we said, it's a CDMA handset but it also supports 1x EVDO which is a 3G standard.

The Samsung B600 is a glimpse of some of the features we might see in GSM handsets in 2007. Until then, these features will presumably be for the Korean market only.

Samsung D900 Option

OLD GUI

Enter code *#1234#

to display Firmware version of the phone

Example : D900XAFG6

D900 = model
XA = Region / Country
F = Year (2006)
G = Month (July)
6 = Firmware Release in month (so this is the 6th revision)

New GUI (probably D900 specific)

To get Keypad Tones active (not greyed out)

Settings
Display Settings
Dialling Display
Font Type
change font type from THEME to NORMAL and then SAVE

Keypad Tones are now active
