Father says shooting was in self-defense
After finding his dead wife in the bathroom, Shehada went into the garage and grabbed a gun. Shortly thereafter, the elder Issa went outside the home and encountered his son. Shehada said Amir came at him with a knife and was forced to shoot his son to protect himself. However, investigators never found a knife at the scene and the man was quickly arrested.
On Friday, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office stated that Shehada had threatened to kill his son for being gay on a previous occasion. Detective John Doerbecker said Shehada and his son had a very strained relationship, especially because of Amir’s sexual orientation. Neighbors claim the father and son were constantly fighting and Amir was being kicked out of the home. Additionally, Amir had vandalized the home on several occasions, forcing his father to hire contractors to fix the damage. |
