Monday game sees return of Hasselbeck, Favre

   By Pat Kirwan
NFL.com Senior Analyst

(Nov. 26, 2006) -- Seattle head coach Mike Holmgren against his old pupil Brett Favre. Favre is the reigning king of Monday Night Football production with 7,281 yards and 54 touchdown passes. The Seahawks have been decimated by injuries all season, but they finally get their quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck, and running back, Shaun Alexander, back on the field together for the first time since Sept. 24. The Seahawks didn't put up very good numbers back in September when the two stars were on the field, but they were 3-0 until the injuries hit. Can they return to the level of play that got them to the Super Bowl last year? We will find out tonight when the Packers come to town. Favre dodged a bullet last week when it looked like he seriously hurt his throwing arm, but he's fine and usually "lights up the scoreboard" on MNF.

Both teams have been sloppy with the ball and are losing the turnover battle to date. Neither team has been very good on defense at getting the ball back for the offense. Seattle has a tremendous home-field advantage, but the truth is Favre plays better on the road than he does at Lambeau. Since 2003, the Packers are 15-14 away from Green Bay and just 13-16 at home.

Green Bay was shut out last week for the second time this season, and the Seahawks shut out the Raiders on Monday Night Football three weeks ago (and by the way, they hold the NFL record for shutouts on MNF with five). I don't think the Seattle defense can hold down Favre, but you never know.

POINTS TO KEEP IN MIND IF YOU LIKE SEATTLE
1. Matt Hasselbeck is back at QB.
2. Seattle is 21-4 at home when Hasselbeck starts since 2003.
3. The Seahawks are No. 2 in defensive sacks this season.
4. Green Bay has now been shut out twice this season.
5. Green Bay gives up 24 points a game on the road.
6. The Packers were held to 120 total yards last week.
7. Seattle has shut out five teams on MNF.
8. Green Bay is the 31st-ranked pass defense in the NFL.
9. Deion Branch and Darrell Jackson have 44 receptions and six touchdowns in the last five games.
10. Green Bay is 1-4 in its last five MNF games.

POINTS TO KEEP IN MIND IF YOU LIKE GREEN BAY
1. Brett Favre is healthy and second all time to Dan Marino on MNF .
2. Matt Hasselbeck is 0-3 versus the Packers with zero touchdown passes.
3. Green Bay is No. 4 in defensive sacks and the Seahawks are No. 28 giving up sacks.
4. Seattle has now gone seven games without a rushing touchdown.
5. Last year, Green Bay beat Seattle and held Shaun Alexander to 73 yards.
6. Shaun Alexander has a 2.7 yards per carry rushing average.
7. Seattle has given up 19 sacks and fumbled 10 times in the last five games.
8. Favre has only thrown two interceptions in his last 164 passes.
9. KGB (Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila) has 15? sacks in 15 MNF games.
10. Last week, San Francisco running back Frank Gore had 212 yards versus Seattle.

WHEN THE SEAHAWKS HAVE THE BALL
Last year, no one could stop Mike Holmgren's team at home. Shaun Alexander rushed for 17 scores in his eight home victories, but that was last season when All-Pro guard Steve Hutchinson was leading the way. The Seattle offensive line has been torn apart with injuries, and it may be time to spread out the Packers defense with three- and four-receiver packages and attack a questionable Green Bay secondary.

Shaun Alexander is hoping for a better performance than he had last week.

Last week, Alexander was up against a San Francisco defense ranked 22nd in the league and could only muster 37 yards in 17 carries. Green Bay struggled to contain Laurence Maroney last week and gave up a 100-plus yard rushing day to an individual for the first time this season. The Packers are still one of the better run defenses in the league, and when I watch them on tape, it's clear they are an excellent tackling team. Coach Holmgren will consider setting up the run with the pass early in this game.

The Seattle passing attack is going to have to be the three-step drop quick game, because the Seahawks struggle to protect the QB. Whether it's Hasselbeck or Seneca Wallace, opposing defenses get to the QB. The 34 sacks in 10 games is more than twice as many as the Packers give up, and if Aaron Kampman and company get to Hasselbeck four or five times, Seattle will be in for a long night. Slant routes to Branch and Jackson seem like the way to go in this game.

WHEN THE PACKERS HAVE THE BALL
Ahman Green returned to practice on Friday and should start. In the four weeks prior to a knee injury last week, he rushed for just over 400 yards in four games. Favre is at his best with a solid running game behind him, and I'm sure Green just watched the game tapes of Gore tearing the Seahawks defense apart and will want to do the same thing to the team that traded him away years ago.

Brett Favre is back to feeling fine and figures to be a key figure Monday.

Favre should realize that the formula to slow him down is to double up Donald Driver and make him find the open man. Favre can read coverages as well as anyone to ever play the game, but he can get in trouble trying to stick a ball into places he shouldn't go. Favre looks like he is back in his Hall-of-Fame form over the past five weeks, and he is taking a lot less chances than he was previously. All reports from Green Bay this week are that his arm strength is excellent, after the injury last week that put him on the sideline during the game for just the sixth time in his career.

It looks like the Packers will miss offensive right tackle Mark Tauscher, down with a groin injury, and that means Seattle will develop a few looks to rush outside linebacker Julian Peterson from that side. If not Peterson, than one of the 13 Seahawks who have combined to notch 35 sacks will get his shot at Favre. Look for the Packers to work their classic screen game to the right side to help backup lineman Tony Moll, a rookie handling the right edge of the protection. Green is an excellent screen pass receiver, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a few called in the first quarter.

CONCLUSION
It's hard to believe Hasselbeck has never beaten his old team and never thrown a touchdown pass in three starts against Green Bay. The Packers have already given up 18 touchdown passes this season, and it seems probable that Branch and Jackson -- who already have 12 scores between them -- will break the ice for Hasselbeck. Alexander will run well enough to keep a safety down in the box most of the night, and the Seattle pass rush will disrupt Favre just enough to give them a home win. If the Seahawks don't shore up their tackling and pass blocking, then Seattle will slip to 6-5 and find its playoff hopes in jeopardy. I think Holmgren will have his team ready to start their playoff push tonight and win a close game against his old team.

by the way, find highlights of barry sanders and you'll be amazed at how good he is, and he's only 5' 9 and about 200 lbs" - going against towering DLs of about 6' 2" and over 300 lbs.

Dolphins still think Favre is a weapon

By Carl Kotala
Gannett News Service

DAVIE, Fla. ? There has been a lot of talk in the national media that Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre just doesn't have it anymore.

But from where the Miami Dolphins sit, there is plenty to be wary of, defending the guy who is on pace to break Dan Marino's all-time passing records by the time he's through.

"He's a big-play guy," Miami linebacker Zach Thomas said. "He still has his arm. He has a rocket, and he'll definitely fling it. He reads coverages really well.

"He's a very smart quarterback. That's why he's a Hall-of-Famer, one of the best quarterbacks to play the game. It doesn't look like he's lost a step at all. His mechanics ... he throws it a little off, but it's always there, it's always on target."

Favre and the Packers (1-4) are hardly the playoff contenders they once were. With each loss, it seems at least one or two national experts suggest it's time for the 16-year veteran to step aside and let young backup Aaron Rodgers take over.

However, first-year Packers coach Mike McCarthy hasn't shown any inclination to bench Favre, who will start his 227th consecutive game ? an NFL record for quarterbacks ? when Green Bay visits Miami at noon Sunday.

Earlier this season, Favre became only the second NFL quarterback with 400 touchdown passes. He enters Sunday needing 18 more to top Marino's record of 420. Depending on how much longer Favre plays, he could challenge Marino's records for attempts, completions and passing yards.

While the chance to become the most prolific quarterback in history might serve as motivation for some, McCarthy said Favre ? who contemplated retirement this past offseason ? doesn't obsess about it.

"He doesn't talk about the records," McCarthy said. "I can't even recall having a conversation about the records."

In many ways, Favre's previous relationship with McCarthy ? a former Packers quarterbacks coach ? made it easier for the 37-year-old to come back for another season.

"The thing about Brett on a personal level, we're pretty close in age," the soon-to-be 43-year-old McCarthy said. "He has two daughters and I also have a daughter, so there's a connection there as far as what stage we are both at in our adult lives.

"On a professional level, he's still a very, very good quarterback. He actually prepares a lot harder now than when I coached him in '99. He's got a lot of football left in him. He's a joy to coach."

He's also the kind of player defensive guys get up to play against because they know he'll be in the Hall of Fame as soon as he's eligible.

"I think after the game you probably think about it more than you do right now," Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor said. "Favre is obviously one of the greatest out there to have thrown the football. Everybody knows what he's done, what he can do and all the accolades that he's gotten ? the MVPs and the Super Bowls and all the other stuff ? and it's very well-deserved.

"The guy is one of the best. It's great to play against him."

While Favre has struggled this year with interceptions ? he has five, with seven touchdown passes ? his gunslinger mentality has the Dolphins worried.

After all, the Dolphins secondary has a way of making ordinary quarterbacks look special. Favre is already there.

He may not be nearly as successful as in the past, but the Packers' No. 4 is still one of the NFL's most popular players.

Joey Harrington, who when in Detroit played against Favre twice a season, said Favre's appeal is that he seems like the kind of guy who could be your next-door neighbor.

"Brett is ... I don't want to say he's the face of this league, but he's the guy everybody attaches to," Harrington said. "You relate with Brett because he's ... a guy. He's just a normal guy who happens to play football very well. People see the problems he's gone through in the last couple of years ? deaths in the family. They saw him going through his pain-pill stuff. And those are things that people relate to. He's not this guy who's put up on a cloud and is better than everybody.

"He's a guy who has problems and fights through them like everybody else, but does it well ? does it with energy, does it with charisma and does it as a winner."

Manning notches ninth 3,000-yard season

NFL.com wire reports

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Dec. 3, 2006) -- Peyton Manning completed an 18-yard pass to Ben Utecht, putting him over 3,000 yards passing for a ninth consecutive season and tying him with Dan Marino for the second-longest streak in NFL history.

On the Colts' next possession, Manning connected with Marvin Harrison for a 68-yard touchdown. It was the 100th time in their careers that Harrison caught a touchdown pass from Manning -- an NFL record for a quarterback-receiver duo.

The Colts quarterback went into the game with Tennessee 36 yards short of 3,000, and his fourth completion on his fifth attempt to Utecht gave him 38 yards. Only Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers has strung together more 3,000-yard passing seasons with 14.

Addai, Samuel, Parrish nab first weekly awards

Romo, Taylor, Brown earn NFC honors
NEW YORK (Nov. 29, 2006) -- Running back Joseph Addai of the Indianapolis Colts, cornerback Asante Samuel of the New England Patriots and wide receiver-punt returner Roscoe Parrish of the Buffalo Bills are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for games played the 12th week of the 2006 season (Nov. 23, 26-27).

OFFENSE: RB JOSEPH ADDAI, INDIANAPOIS COLTS
With a national television audience tuned in on Sunday night, Addai had a season-best 24 carries for 171 (7.1 average) yards and four touchdowns in a 45-21 win against Philadelphia to help the Colts keep sole possession of the NFL's best record (10-1). Leading all rookie rushers with 789 yards, Addai became the eighth rookie in NFL history to rush for four TDs in a game and set his club's single-game rookie mark for overall touchdowns. Addai had first-half scores of 15, 10 and 15 yards, becoming just the second player in NFL history with three first-half rushing touchdowns of 10 or more yards (Pro Football Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson, Colts vs. Denver 10/31/88). Ten of the rookie's 24 carries exceeded eight yards. Addai also notched two catches for 37 yards to join Marshall Faulk, Edgerrin James, and Pro Football Hall of Famer Lenny Moore as the only rookie Colts to surpass 200 scrimmage yards in a game.

In his first year from LSU, this is Addai's first Player of the Week Award.

DEFENSE: CB ASANTE SAMUEL, NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
New England's Samuel recorded three interceptions in the Patriots' 17-13 win over the Chicago Bears, recording the first three-interception game for the franchise in more than 23 years and notched just the second three-pick game in the NFL this season. Clinging to a 10-3 lead late in the third quarter, Samuel recorded his second interception on the Patriots' 7-yard line to halt a Bears scoring chance and returned the ball 27 yards to place his offense near midfield. With 5:04 to play and the Patriots ahead 17-10, Chicago had a second-and-7 situation on the New England 15. Samuel made tackles on each of the two following plays to stymie the Bears and hold them to a field goal, keeping the Patriots ahead 17-13. The third-year cornerback came through again with 1:52 left in the game and New England leading 17-13 following a fumble that gave Chicago hope and the ball on its own 22. On the next snap, Samuel notched his third interception of the day -- and a career-best sixth on the season -- on the Patriots' 38 to lift New England to an 8-3 record. The last Patriot to intercept three passes in a regular-season game was Roland James (Oct. 23, 1983) in a 31-0 win against Buffalo.

In his fourth year from Central Florida, this is Samuel's first Player of the Week honor.

SPECIAL TEAMS: WR-PR ROSCOE PARRISH, BUFFALO BILLS
In a back-and-forth game full of big plays, Buffalo's Parrish made one of the biggest with an 82-yard punt return for a touchdown late in the third quarter for a 27-24 home victory against Jacksonville. With 4:11 to go in the third quarter, Parrish fielded a Jaguars punt on his own 18, spun around would-be tacklers for daylight along the left sideline following an exceptional block by rookie teammate Donte Whitner and motored for the score to give the Bills a 24-14 advantage in the eventual win. The play marked Buffalo's first punt return for a touchdown since 2004 when Nate Clements returned a Rams punt 86 yards for a score. Parrish also notched a 22-yard punt return earlier in the third quarter to establish a single-game club-record 104 punt return yards on the afternoon, surpassing the 98-yard mark held by Ike Hill since 1971. Parrish leads the NFL with a 13.9 punt return average. He also caught two passes for 36 yards, including a crucial 30-yard reception with 17 seconds left in regulation to set up a game-winning field goal.

In his second year from Miami, this is the first Player of the Week Award for Parrish.

Other nominees for AFC Offensive Player of Week 12 were:

Miami wide receiver Marty Booker, who led his team with 115 receiving yards on seven catches, including two for touchdowns, in a 27-10 win at Detroit on Thanksgiving.
New York wide receiver Laveranues Coles, who posted nine receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown in a 26-11 win against Houston.
New York wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery, who racked up 110 yards receiving on seven receptions.
Miami quarterback Joey Harrington, who passed for three touchdowns and 213 yards on 19 of 29 passing (65.5 percent) for a 107.4 passer rating.
Kansas City running back Larry Johnson, who carried the ball 34 times for 157 yards (4.6 average) and a touchdown in a 19-10 Thanksgiving night win against Denver. Johnson has scored a touchdown in nine consecutive games.
Baltimore quarterback Steve McNair, who posted a 102.8 passer rating, completing 18 of 24 (75 percent) of his passes for 140 yards with a TD and no interceptions in a 27-0 win against Pittsburgh.
Cincinnati quarterback Carson Palmer, who completed 25 of 32 (78.1 percent) passes for 275 yards with three touchdowns against one interception for a 120.7 passer rating in a 30-0 win at Cleveland.
New York quarterback Chad Pennington, who connected on 24 of his 31 pass attempts (77.4 percent) for 286 yards and a touchdown.
San Diego running back LaDainian Tomlinson, who added two more TDs for an NFL-leading total of 24 on the season in a 21-14 win against Oakland. Tomlinson rushed for 109 yards and two TDs on 19 carries (5.7 average) and completed a 19-yard touchdown pass for the victory.
Tennessee rookie quarterback Vince Young, who led the Titans back from a 21-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat the New York Giants 24-21. Young set career highs in passing yards (249), touchdowns (two) and rushing yards (69) in the win. His performance marked the first time a rookie QB had accounted for three fourth-quarter touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) since Pro Football Hall of Famer John Elway in 1983.
Other nominees for AFC Defensive Player of Week 12 were:

New York defensive end Shaun Ellis, who notched 1.5 sacks and five tackles.
San Diego linebacker Randall Godfrey, who made a career-high three tackles for losses against Oakland, including a sack. Godfrey had 13 total tackles on the day.
Miami defensive end Vonnie Holliday, who registered 2.0 sacks and another tackle as part of the Dolphins' eight-sack performance at Detroit.
Tennessee cornerback Pacman Jones, who accounted for two fourth-quarter interceptions that led to 10 points in the Titans' come-from-behind victory. Jones added a 29-yard punt return on special teams.
Cincinnati safety Kevin Kaesviharn, who notched two interceptions and a sack with four tackles.
Kansas City cornerback Ty Law, who posted seven tackles, an interception and forced a fumble.
Indianapolis defensive end Robert Mathis, who chalked up 2.0 sacks with two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
New York safety Kerry Rhodes, who recorded 11 tackles and defensed two passes, including an interception.
Baltimore linebacker Bart Scott, who tallied four tackles, including 1.5 sacks, and a fourth-quarter interception. Scott and the Ravens limited Pittsburgh to only 21 rushing yards on the day.
New York defensive end Bryan Thomas, who posted 2.0 sacks among his four tackles. Thomas has at least 1.0 sack in three of his past four games.
Other nominees for AFC Special Teams Player of Week 12 were:

Tennessee kicker Rob Bironas, who kicked a game-winning field goal by splitting the uprights from 49 yards with 11 seconds remaining.
San Diego rookie cornerback-kick returner Antonio Cromartie, who returned a kickoff 91 yards, tied for the seventh-longest kick return in franchise history.
Buffalo kicker Rian Lindell, who booted home a 42-yard field goal as time expired for a three-point victory. Lindell is now 87 for 106 (82.08 percent) in field goal tries as a Bill for the highest mark in club annals.
New York kicker Mike Nugent, who was flawless in four field goal tries from 23, 34, 54, and 40 yards. Nugent also was credited with a tackle on kickoff coverage.
Baltimore kicker Matt Stover, who connected on both of his field goal attempts (37, 40) and kicked off six times for a pair of touchbacks.
Kansas City kicker Lawrence Tynes, who was a perfect four-of-four on field goal tries from 24, 34, 29, and 21 yards.

Think about it. That? the equivalent of LaDainian Tomlinson rushing for 556 yards in a game (Corey Dillon holds the record with 278), Priest Holmes scoring 12 touchdowns in a game (three players have scored six) or Sebastian Janikowski blasting a 126-yard field goal (the record is 63). Of course, the latter would be impossible. Technically, the longest FG attempt possible could be about 117 yards, but you get the idea.

size padang tu, total 120 yards. ni termasuk 10 yards for the endzone on each end of the field. bila nak kick field goal, kicker usually will be about 7 yard behind the line of scrimmage. but, to have enough room to kick, minimum distance is 3 yards. sebab tulah the longest field goal can only be 117 yards - 3 yards reserve for the kicker to have just enough room to kick.

possible. samada akan berlaku atau tidak, Tuhan ajer yang tau. nothing's impossible in this world except mati hidup balik, kecuali dengan kehendak Tuhan. in real life, kita boleh kata impossible lah. kena pasang kaki bionic kot!
