Bayern open door for Owen

Owen Hargreaves might yet seal his dream move to Manchester United after Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer admitted the door is open to a summer switch.

The England international has not hidden his desire to leave the German giants, with the red half of Manchester his preferred destination, but Bayern have so far blocked United's repeated attempts to prise him away from Bavaria.

He said on German television: "If it is right there is an offer of 25-30m euros (

Bayern worry over Schweinsteiger

BayernMunich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger could be out for anundetermined period with a knee problem originating from an insect bitetwo years ago.

The22-year-old was ruled out of his side's 2-0 Champions League defeat toMilan last night with a swollen knee, and fears are now growing thatthe player may have contracted Lyme disease.
Initially, theBayern medical department dismissed the swelling at from a harmlessknock on the left knee, and Schweinsteiger underwent acupuncture, though when club doctor Hans-Wilhelm M黮ler-Wohlfahrt went toadminister the second bout of acupuncture treatment, it was decided itwould have no effect.
"Bastian has a severe swelling of theknee," coach Ottmar Hitzfeld confirmed. "We don't know whether it willlast for one, two, or three weeks. It could also be an insect bite. Wehave done some tests and will receive the results back next week.

Bayern Munich hopes to keep pace with leaders Munich, Germany (Sports Network) - Bayern Munich, which was eliminated from the UEFA Champions League earlier this week, hosts Bayer Leverkusen at Allianz-Arena on Sunday in a marquee Bundesliga game. Bayern Munich was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Champions League by AC Milan 4-2 on aggregate Wednesday, but can continue its run at a third straight Bundesliga title with a win over fifth-placed Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern Munich, fourth in the standings, is just six points behind Schalke for the top spot. Bayer Leverkusen is eight points behind Bayern Munich and can take a huge step toward catching the top four with a win. Bayern Munich stunned Bayer Leverkusen in their first meeting this season in November, scoring twice in the final minutes to rally for a 3-2 win at BayArena in Leverkusen. Bayern Munich scored first in the earlier meeting on Hasan Salihamidzic's goal in the 33rd minute. Substitute Stefan Kiessling, a striker on Germany's under-21 team, beat Oliver Kahn in the 48th minute and Mazzoli Athirson added a goal in the 80th minute to put Bayer Leverkusen in line for the upset. Instead, Bayern Munich earned three big points when Martin Demichelis and Claudio Pizarro scored in the 83rd and 86th minutes, respectively. Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen are 4-1-1 in their last six Bundesliga games. Both teams defeated Schalke during the stretches. On Friday, Jose Paolo Guerrero scored in the 90th minute to hand Hamburg a 1-0 win over last-placed Monchengladbach. In other Bundesliga action Saturday, Schalke visits 17th-placed Mainz, Wolfsburg visits Energie in a matchup of top-eight teams, Hannover visits Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt visits Arminia Bielefeld, Alemania Aachen visits Nurnberg and Hertha Berlin visits Bochum. Also on Sunday, second-placed Werder Bremen could move into the top spot when it visits Dortmund. Dortmund is in 14th place and in danger of dropping into the bottom three.  04/13 16:37:17 ET

Borowski sidelined
Werder Bremen's Germany midfielder Tim Borowski reinjured his left knee in their 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund on Sunday and will be out for an indefinite period.

"I'm shocked because I had a good feeling that it would hold after the Alkmaar match," he said, referring to his comeback after a six-week injury break in Werder's victory in the UEFA Cup quarter-finals last week.

Werder are in second place in the Bundesliga, two points behind Schalke 04 with five matches left.

Ismael makes successful return

Valerien Ismael finally made a return to action at the weekend after having recovered from a double fracture of his tibia last August. The Bayern Munich midfielder came on as a last minute substitute in Sunday's 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen to make his first Bundesliga appearance in 11 months.

"My main aim is to win back my place in the starting line-up for next season," a relieved Ismael said. "From now until the final game of the season, the most important thing is for Bayern to qualify for the next Champions Leauge."

Bayern currently lie in fourth place, just out of the Champions League places, but with just two points separating them and third-placed Stuttgart. The two sides meet in a showdown on Saturday.
