Klose And Diego Worsen BVB's Woes
Another impressive performance by Werder Bremen on the 29th match day of the season finished in a 2:0 win at Borusia Dortmund. Miroslav Klose scored his twelveth goal of the season on the half hour to put the Green-Whites in front and ten minutes later Diego spectacularly bent a free-kick in from 18 meters to seal Dortmunds faith.
Werder started with the very eleven which so convincingly cruised past AZ Alkmaar with a 4:1 win to reach the UEFA Cup semi finals and the decision not to change a winning team appeared to be the correct one as the visitors started in similar fashion as they had done three days previously. Thomas Schaaf's men continually pressed towards the BVB goal but against a tightly packed defence it took until the 19th minute before Werder could get a serious shot on goal. Miroslav Klose crossed from the left and found the head of Diego who had powered into the box. The Brazilians header was somehow blocked by BVB keeper Roman Weidenfeller who remarkably got his hands up in a lightening reflex to prevent his side going behind. Two minutes later a chance fell to Klose after a mistake in the centre by Dortmund but instead of shooting himself, the German international chose to pass to Aaron Hunt who was standing in an offside position.
Klose scores during Dortmund's best period
The relegation threatened home side had little to lift their fans hearts early in the tie but that would change dramatically after 25 minutes. In a goalmouth scramble, Florian Kringe profitted from a poor, attempted clearance by Naldo but Tim Weise was able to stick out his left boot to turn the shot away. Kringe tried his luck again shortly after after a one-two with Steven Pienaar but this time saw his effort zip wide of the upright from 13 meters out (27'). Two minutes later it was time to celebrate at the Signal Iduna Park, but only for the travelling fans under the 81,000 at the collousal stadium. Patrick Owomoyela stole the ball from Kringe in the midfield and burst down the left. The 'emergency' left full-back crossed into the box where Aaron Hunt threw himself toward the ball but failed to connect, happily for Werder, Klose had broken free at the back post and could turn the ball home from seven meters.
Diego teases a free-kick past the stranded keeper
Immediately from the re-start, Tinga had the chance to pull his side back level but from then on it was clearly the Green-Whites in the driving seat. The ever impressive Diego made the task doubly difficult for the hosts on 39 minutes. Werder's number ten stepped up to take a free-kick |

nk merebut 3rd place, rase cam nk menang title
Do or die for Bayern Munich in Stuttgart[size=+1]By John Bagratuni
Hamburg - It's do-or-die for Bayern Munich in their Bundesliga visit to VfB Stuttgart on Saturday.
The outcome could not only determine the fate of Germany's number 1 club for this season, but also for the upcoming campaign and longer.
Stuttgart rank third with 55 points behind Schalke (59) and Werder Bremen (57), a position which would give them a place in the qualifying round for the European Champions League.
Munich are fourth on 53 points, and in danger of missing out on Europe's most lucrative event for the first time in more than a decade if the lose.
Kicker sports magazine on Thursday named the game "the Champions League final," with just four league rounds left after the weekend.
For Munich, a place in the UEFA Cup would be a disaster, true to the famous statement from the president Franz Beckenbauer who long ago named that event "the cup of losers."( tau xper)
Its not just missing out on attractive games against the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid or AC Milan, it will also make it very hard for Munich to bolster their squad with the desired one or more European star players.
Munich's shopping list includes Italy striker Luca Toni, Dutch winger Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery of France, but players of such calibre are unlikely to join if the Bavarians don't make the Champions League.
Robben's father and advisor Hans Robben said that "Bayern Munich is a possibility" but added that his son would only be tempted to leave English champions Chelsea for a club which can win the Champions League.
The Bild daily on Thursday predicted that "once again only the Bundesliga is left as a hunting ground" for Munich, naming Dutch playmaker Rafael van der Vaart (SV Hamburg) and Germany striker Miroslav Klose (Bremen) their objects of desire.
Everyone in Munich is aware of the situation in a season which has been below par for the Bavarians after successive league and cup doubles in 2005 and 2006.
"We have to win if we want to finish third without the help of others. Third place will be very difficult to salvage if we lose," said coach Ottmar Hitzfeld.
For Stuttgart, the season has so far been beyond all expectations. Their confidence was further boosted on Wednesday when they reached the cup final against Nuremberg with a 1-0 win in Wolfsburg.
"We should not be afraid. We can secure third place with a victory, that is our aim," said their young Germany forward Mario Gomez.
Bremen start the weekend round on Friday night at home against lowly Alemannia Aachen, hoping to put pressure on Schalke, who host mid-table Cottbus on Saturday.
Bayer Leverkusen take on Nuremberg in a match which could determine the fifth-place finisher and with it a UEFA Cup berth.
The other games are Hertha Berlin vs. Borussia Dortmund, VfL Wolfsburg vs. Arminia Bielefeld, Eintracht Frankfurt vs. VfL Bochum (Saturday), Hanover 96 vs. Borussia Moenchengladbach and SV Hamburg vs. Mainz 05 (Sunday). - Sapa-dpa |

Kahn will not rotate with talented young Rensing
BERLIN, April 19 (Reuters) - Bayern Munich's 37-year-old captain Oliver Kahn said on Thursday he had no intention of sharing his goalkeeping duties next season with his talented young back-up Michael Rensing.
'Michael is obviously a great talent,' Kahn told Arena, referring to the 22-year-old who had a superb match filling in for the suspended Kahn in Bayern's 2-2 draw at AC Milan in the Champions League quarter-finals.
'His time will come...
'But I've got a contract until 2008 and as long as I'm able to deliver above-average performances consistently, I don't think there's room for discussion (about job rotation) just because a few younger keepers are doing well at other clubs.'
Rensing has been at Bayern since 2000 and was scheduled to replace Kahn this season before Kahn extended his contract by two years through the 2007/08 season.
He has played in 12 Bundesliga matches and two Champions League matches.
Kahn recently hinted he might stay even beyond 2008, prompting Rensing to say he would want to be transferred if Kahn stays longer.
Two young goalkeepers have ousted established former Germany internationals at Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen this season.
Schalke 04's Manuel Neuer replaced Frank Rost and Bayer Leverkusen's Rene Adler recently took over from Hans-Joerg Butt.
Kahn spent two years, from 2004 to 2006, sharing the Germany goalkeeping job with Arsenal's Jens Lehmann before losing out just before the start of the 2006 World Cup.
