Klose, Gomez and Ballack back in German squad

German captain Michael Ballack looks set to make his return from injury after being named by Germany coach Joachim L鰓 on Tuesday in his squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers against San Marino (June 2) and Slovakia (June 6). Strikers Mario Gomez and Miroslav Klose are back in the squad as well.

Ballack, who has not played for last weekend's FA Cup winners Chelsea for a month after undergoing ankle surgery, was called up along with Per Mertesacker and Gomez, who have also recovered from injury. Klose was suspended in the last qualifier against the Czech Republic.

Striker Lukas Podolski and midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Tim Borowski are all sidelined with knee injuries for the matches.

Germany lead Group D with 13 points, currently tied with the Czech Republic and the Republic of Ireland, who have played one and two matches more respectively.

Jansen switch heralds all change at Bayern Munich

BERLIN (AFP) - Germany's international defender Marcell Jansen will join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich this summer after signing a four-year contract in a deal worth nine million euros (12 million US dollars) it was revealed on Friday - with more arrivals expected.
Jansen, who has won 14-caps for his country, will leave Borussia Moenchengladbach, who were relegated from the Bundesliga last weekend, and has completed the deal after passing a medical in Munich.
A fringe player in the German squad, 21-year-old Jansen is highly regarded by national coach Joachim Loew, who has included him in his squad for next month's Euro 2008 qualifiers against San Marino and Slovakia.
"This is an important step in my career and has been very carefully thought out," left-back Jansen told German sports magazine Kicker on Friday.
But Bayern's gain is Moenchengladbach's loss.
"We did not plan to sell Marcell Jansen, he was part of the planning for the coming season. But we can understanding his wish to improve himself and further his career," said Borussia president Rolf Koenigs.
Jansen's switch is sure to be the first in a long list of arrivals at Bayern Munich set to be announced in the next few weeks by the German giants who are smarting after their worst season for more than ten years.
Of those confirmed for next season, talented 23-year-old striker Jan Schlaudraff is joining from relegated Alemannia Aachen and Turkish international midfielder Hamit Altintop is coming from Schalke 04.
While Argentinian midfielder Jose Ernesto Sosa is set to join from Argentina's Estudiantes de La Plata, as is Italian World Cup winner Luca Toni from Fiorentina.
But there is a long list of big names who Bayern are courting as head coach Ottmar Hitzfeld looks to completely rebuild his squad.
English giants Chelsea are negotiating with Dutch winger Arjen Robben, but if the 23-year-old fails to agree terms, Bayern are ready to step in.
Other targets include attacking midfielder Franck Ribery (Marseille) and Portugal's forward Ricardo Quaresma (Porto FC), while former Bayern midfielder Ze Robertos is set to return after a season playing for Santos in his native Brazil.(dpt 3 org neh kire bersyukur dowhh )
Bayern have already lost the services of Engish international midfielder Owen Hargreaves, who is set to join Manchester United, Mehmet Scholl (retired), Juventus-bound midfielder Hasan Salihamidzic.
Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro and Iranian midfielder Ali Karimi are both leaving Bayern, but there has been no announcement of where they will go.

We Don抰 Need A New Toni, Say Fiorentina

Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino declares that the Viola don抰 need a new forward that could match up to Toni抯 strength.

Yesterday, both Fiorentina and Bayern Munich officially confirmed Luca Toni抯 transfer to Bayern Munich in an 11 million euro deal.

His move implies that the Viola will not have their top scorer anymore.
However, Corvino has said that Toni抯 departure doesn抰 weaken the team and that the club management is focusing on young players.

"Selling Toni to Bayern is not reducing the power of this side. We made a promise to the player and we maintained it. That is all.

"We have decided to focus on Arturo Lupoli, Giampaolo Pazzini, Adrian Mutu and Valeri Bojinov.
"There will be no other arrivals up front."
Corvino then made a last remark on a possible departure of core midfielder Fabio Liverani.
"We will make the decision along with Cesare Prandelli, as it depends on the system. If we do change, we will be honest with the player and together decide on his future."

Diego voted player of the year in Germany

BERLIN, May 29 (Reuters) - Werder Bremen's Brazilian midfielder Diego has been voted Germany's outfield player of the year by his fellow professionals.

Diego, who moved to Werder for six million euros ($8.07 million) from Porto last year, polled 50.7 percent of the votes of 268 players in German soccer magazine Kicker.

Greek forward Theofanis Gekas, the league's top scorer with 20 goals, finished a distant second with 10.7 percent, while young German striker Mario Gomez was third with 6.3 percent.

The 21-year-old Manuel Neuer was named best goalkeeper after breaking through to become number one at runners-up Schalke 04.

Former Bayern coach Magath takes over at Wolfsburg

BERLIN, May 30 (Reuters) - Felix Magath has been appointed chief coach and sporting director at VfL Wolfsburg, the Bundesliga club said on Wednesday.

Magath won back-to-back league and cup doubles with Bayern Munich in 2005 and 2006 but was sacked by the Bavarians in February this year following a poor run.

The former VfB Stuttgart boss replaces Klaus Augenthaler, who was dismissed after Wolfsburg narrowly avoided relegation on the last day of the season.

'In Magath we're getting one of the most renowned figures in the German game,' Wolfsburg chairman Hans Dieter Poetsch said in a statement issued by the club.

Werder Bremen Invite Klose Offers

Werder Bremen have indicated that they are ready to listen to offers for star forward Miroslav Klose.

This comes as a softening of their stance after they had issued a 'hands off' warning a month back, after Klose had met with Bayern bosses in a Hannover hotel.

It is more to do with making a smart business decision, because Werder want to avoid losing him for nothing next summer.

Sporting director Klaus Allofs has admitted that the club are ready to cash in on the German international striker.

"If someone makes a call [to ask about Klose], then I won't hang up," said Allofs. "I would listen to everything."

"But that is true only for a certain time," he insisted, announcing a time limit on the negotiations. "When we decide that time has come, no more discussions will be held.

"Even if Bayern want to negotiate one more time [after that], that won't interest us any more."

Bayern are still keen to land him, despite already signing Luca Toni, as much to build a world class team as to weaken a direct rival ahead of next season.

However, Juventus and Barcelona have also expressed interest, and Werder would prefer to deal with a club from outside Germany, for obvious reasons.

Hamburg Sign Zidan From Mainz

Hamburg have confirmed that they have signed Mohamed Zidan from Mainz.

Zidan has been one of the emergeing stars of the Bundesliga this season, and has really grabbed the headlines with his 13 goals in 15 games.

With Mainz being relegated, it was only a matter of time before he moved, and Hamburg have jumped in to sign the Egypt international.

The 25-year-old has successfully completed a medical and signed a four year contract at the AOL Arena, in a move that netted Mainz 5 million euros.

Zidan was thought to be reluctant to move to Hamburg, who struggled for most of this season, but seems to have been convinced after speaking with coach Huub Stevens, who has led the club back from near certain relegation.

It is believed that he convinced Zidan about a strike partnership with former Bayern Munich man Paolo Guerrero, with Rafael van der Vaart in a roaming role behind.

Of course, the big question is whether the North German club will manage to ward off the advances of Bayern Munich for their creative genius.

Germany Cruise To Easy Victory03/06/07

Germany moved closer to a place in the finals of Euro 2008 with an emphatic win over San Marino.
The Germans had to wait until the 45th minute before Kevin Kuranyi put them ahead.
The second half saw the floodgates open. Marcell Jansen doubled the lead in the 52nd minute and, following a red card to Davide Simoncini, Torsten Frings swept home a penalty.
Mario Gomez grabbed a brace within five minutes of coming on as a substitute and Clemens Fritz made it six in the 67th minute.
The result takes Germany back to the top of Group D with a two-point advantage over second-placed Czech Republic and a game in hand.
Germany camped inside the San Marino half from the very beginning.
Thomas Hitzlsperger had three shots blocked as the San Marino players created a wall of blue.
Miroslav Klose's poor form at the end of the Bundesliga season carried over into the national team as he sent a header wide while Kuranyi had a 37th-minute strike disallowed for offside.
Finally, Kuranyi curled a header into the far corner in the very last minute of the half to break the deadlock.
After the break, the floodgates opened. Jansen tapped the ball into the empty net as Aldo Simoncini tipped Torsten Frings' corner into his path.
San Marino defender Davide Simoncini was sent off for a second yellow card as he gave away a penalty. Frings stepped up to convert the spot-kick.
Joachim Low made two changes with Gomez replacing Kuranyi and Fritz taking over from Roberto Hilbert, and within five minutes of taking to the field, Stuttgart striker Gomez scored twice.
His first was an easy tap-in after Frings' free-kick was only parried by Simoncini and two minutes later he cheekily backheeled the ball into the net from Jansen's cross.
Fritz added his name to the scoresheet with the most attractive goal of the night, playing a one-two with Werder Bremen team-mate Frings and finishing with the outside of his boot.

Ribery On Verge Of Bayern Move

Franck Ribery's move to Bayern Munich is as good as done.

Ribery had earlier been reluctant to move to Bayern, but the lack of another concrete offer, and Bayern's massive push for him, seems to have done the business.

He is now said to be convinced that a being part of a promising project is worth a season spent playing in the Uefa Cup.

The softening of stand was his comment yesterday, suggesting: "Champions League is not a problem. Bayern are a big club just like Real Madrid."

The French international winger is now set for a
