Luque set for La Liga escape route?
2006-10-08 14:54

Newcastle United misfit Albert Luque has been strongly linked with a return to former club Real Mallorca on loan.

Luque has had a disastrous spell at St.James's Park since joining the Magpies last season from Deportivo La Coruna, making just six Premiership starts.

Since his £9.5million switch last summer, Luque has struggled to adapt to English football, and it appears clear he is not in the long-term plans of Magpies boss Glenn Roeder.

Mallorca are keen to bring Luque back to La Liga, but they cannot afford to buy him outright. A loan spell from January onwards could put Luque back in the shop window, and tempt other clubs to buy him next summer.

Althouigh Luque scored twice for the reserves recently and signalled his desire to break into the first team, it is likely the 28-year-old would relish a return to his homeland.
