Euro Qualifying Group D: Crunch Time For Czechs And Irish The action in Group D this weekend could well see things decided. By the time the three matches have reached their conclusions on Saturday, the two qualifiers from the group may be known.
Germany are virtually assured of their place in the finals having dominated the group from the start, but both the Czech Republic and the Republic of Ireland still have a mathematical chance of grabbing a qualification berth.

Leaders Germany sat out the last round of qualification matches, but saw their position strengthened when second placed Czech Republic beat third placed Republic of Ireland 1-0 in Prague. A 15th minute Marek Jankulovski strike was enough to see off the challenge of Steve Staunton抯 men.
Karel Br點kner抯 side now find themselves six points ahead of the Irish and two points behind the Germans. The points the Irish dropped against Slovakia at the start of September are now looking even more vital.
A point for the Germans at Croke Park on Saturday would clinch their qualification for the final in their neighbouring Austria/ Switzerland next summer. An away win would however seal qualification for the Czech Republic, even though they are not playing this weekend.
With most of the attention firmly focussed on the battle for second place, an interesting tussle has developed between the teams already out of the running.
Slovakia, Wales and Cyprus all have ten points, so it will be interesting to see how the next four games unravel, and who will end up in fourth place.
Pride is at stake, if nothing else, and each nation will be looking to finish above their rivals. Minnows San Marino will be delighted if they could get a point from any of their remaining four games as they have yet to register one so far.
Republic of Ireland v Germany
Saturday 13th October 19:45 (Croke Park, Dublin)
Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland has withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad to play Germany and Cyprus in Euro 2008 qualifiers.
Ireland has said he "would not do his country or himself justice" after his controversial withdrawal from the last qualifier against the Czech Republic.
With or without Ireland, his country抯 chances of reaching the Euro 2008 finals are very slim. Trainer Steve Staunton is also without Paul McShane and Stephen Hunt, who are suspended for the first match, as well as Stephen Carr and Andy O払rien, who are injured. Andy Reid is doubtful with a swollen ankle.
At least the FAI will gain financially from the visit of Germany. It is expected to show a profit of about |

Barcelona move for Bayern Munich fullback Lahm
tribalfooball.com - October 17, 2007
Barcelona are moving for Bayern Munich left-back Philip Lahm.
Kicker says Barca see the Germany international as a potential replacement for Gianluca Zambrotta.
Barca chiefs have concerns over Zambrotta's long-term fitness and have already made contact with Lahm's agents about a move to the Nou Camp at the end of this season.
:@ LAHM IS GOING NOWHERE |
