Episode 6
"Shut up, Listen and Learn"
Whether you're talking about a candidate from Apprentice season 1, 2, or 3, we all have one thing in common and that is the "me, me, me, I, I, I" factor. And if anyone from any of the previous casts pleads differently, they're lying through their teeth, I guarantee you! A matter of fact, I can also almost guarantee that none of our former candidates from any season will even bother giving me a hard time about stating that publicly. It's a part of who we are and why we even tried out to be on "The Apprentice." It certainly takes a lot of tenacity, but a heck of a lot more "ego"! As usual, I always call a spade a spade and I'm not afraid to state it now. Hell, what do I have to lose, right?
Point being, Tara my girl, I have to be honest, but your ego is exactly what got the best of you and did you in. This commentary is difficult to write because you were one of my favorites. You're tough, righteous and smart as a whip, but you overlooked one major key factor卼he client's needs! You were working for PlayStation, not representing the Harlem community!
It's funny, because a lot of people I've spoken with consider this episode simple and unremarkable, however for those of who watch it for a true business strategy lesson, this one could be the mother ship! "Listen, Listen, Listen!" So much easier said than done -- especially when we are passionate about what we're doing and type A personalities to boot. Our heart is MORE often involved than our HEADS! In this case, Tara, you were a victim of that. You were a strong city girl feeling as though you had to represent, but the bottom line and dollar bill took a back seat to use of judgment. But again, you just didn't want to seem to listen until it was too late and the hole you dug was just too deep to get out of. I noticed you told DT in the boardroom that you can't be expected to think of everything for the team, but the thing is, it's exactly what you did and more than willingly so. As a matter of fact, you wouldn't even let anyone else "think," nor would you "listen" when they tried. Perhaps you were too strong, perhaps advertising wasn't your thing, or better yet perhaps you should just go work for yourself. Whatever the case, you didn't take the time or use the simple business frame of mind to consider the client's needs.
My father used to say, "You already know what you know, so be quiet and listen and you may learn something you didn't know." I almost fell over when Donald said it too, because it's not only true in business, but it's crucial! You don't even have to do what they say, but listen to what they say and why they say it. I can't overstate this. People often ask me what I've learned from the big man and I exclaim (besides self promotion and marketing), "The same lesson my father tried to teach me for years, but I just didn't listen." Big mistake! It was quickly pointed out to me on national television in front of millions. Guess what? I've finally learned! Dad, if you're watching from up above, did you get that?
It's so important. If you ask the very top leaders and CEO's, although brilliant, many will admit, "I may not be the smartest and I don't know everything, but I surround myself with the best there is." Now that takes a whole lot of security and putting aside the ego to admit, but more often than not it's a recipe for great leadership and success.
Like DT always says |

The Reward
SOUTHERN CHARM
When Magna entered Patrick Demarchelier's studio, they were graciously greeted by the photographer himself. "Welcome to the studio," he said with a distinct French flair. "We can fix you up, take a nice portrait of you. You look good already, but you look better."
While bow-tied Bren stood waiting for his turn in front of the camera, one woman couldn't help but strike up a conversation with him. "It's easy to tie a bowtie," she said. Bren engaged her in repartee, and soon enough, he was dwarfed by gorgeous models on each arm. "I could never be lonely with you two," he said, pouring on a healthy dose of Southern charm.
Alex couldn't believe what he was seeing. "Here we have Bren, who looks like a stunt double for Orville Redenbacher, and you've got these chicks that are just hitting on him like he's some sort of rock star," he said in an interview. Bren capped off the encounter by posing for a portrait with four of the stunning beauties.
PICTURE PERFECT
Mr. Trump himself arrived to pose for some pictures as well. He greeted the models, and the candidates. "That's a lot different, eh?" Trump said to Stephanie after seeing her freshly coiffed hair. "Do I look better Mr. Trump?" she asked. "You look great. Yeah, you look really beautiful. You look fantastic," he complimented. Donald left his stern boardroom demeanor behind, and enjoyed his time with Magna.
One by one, each candidate spent time in front of the magical lens of Patrick Demarchelier. In an interview, Alex commented on the surreal experience: "This was a taste of Mr. Trump's lifestyle. An hour in the shoes of Mr. Trump is something that I never, ever thought I would be standing in."
After returning to Trump Tower, the candidates of Magna hung their portraits with pride on the wall of the Suite. Viewing the photographs, Bren complimented his female colleagues. "Y'all look so gorgeous," he said. Erin returned the flattery, and Kendra joined in the sentiment, "We're a handsome bunch, aren't we?" The happy crew clinked wine glasses in a toast to the group photo.

Magna Corp aka Books Smart
Project Manager: Alex
Management Style: After three trips in a row to the boardroom, Alex was desperate to push his team to a win.
Graffiti Artist: Lady Pink
Billboard concept: A mural that attempted to reflect the "mad props" and "bling bling" of Gran Turismo 4.
Biggest obstacle: With no experience with hip hop culture, the team had difficulty creating a concept that would attract the target demographic.
Turning point: Alex enlisted the help of some Harlem residents to brainstorm ideas for the advertisement.
Result: An attractive billboard that appealed to the focus group and met the needs of the PlayStation executives.
Net Worth Corp aka Streets Smart
Project Manager: Tara
Management Style: "I understand Harlem," Tara said. "I wanted to tie the ad to that community. The city is a metaphor for the new game. The transition from the mean streets to the newer, more revitalized city."
Graffiti Artist: Erni Vales
Billboard concept: Two Gran Turismo cars breaking out of a nightmare version of New York into a more contemporary vision of Harlem under the tagline, "Tear it up."
Biggest obstacle: "I believe Tara was more concerned on having an incredible art piece than it communicating to people why they should buy the game," Chris said.
Turning point: Tara's decision to focus on pleasing the community rather then the PlayStation executives.
Result: A slick graffiti mural that did not properly pitch the product.

Tara tak patut kena fired.....
Kalau ikutkan minggu lepas dia cemerlang membantu PM.
Mungkin kelemahan Tara ialah untuk berdebat kat dalam board room. Kalau Tara pandai defense, tentunya terselamat. |
